This is an amazing point-and-click adventure! It plays homage to retro variants of this game with the ways in which you engage with the world, but is moderinized the way that avoids clunkiness, going back and forth too much and soft locks. Overall has, super smooth animations, really clever and engaging story and characters that do NOT irk me in the slightest! (you'd be suprised how many games in this genre have GRATING MC's). The puzzles are not overly obtuse and are pretty clever sometimes. Highly recommend this game! Charming and fun all around! Definitely a gem in the genre!
It's an ok game, but honestly I had to go against recommending it because of the Disney-level voice acting and scripting (where Every Word Is Emphasized, and sentences needlessly start with a "Well," and the character probably would have some awkward half-smirk on their face trying to be quirky but it just comes off as incredibly annoying). And while I like point and click games, I hate ones where there's separate push/pull/take/use buttons.
Good at 75% off or more. A charming little game. Story is fun when it's focused on the moment, less fun when it's trying to push itself forward. When it does that, it tries taking itself seriously but fails miserably (a lot of boring cliches). It has some issues starting late game (around mid chapter 3 and onwards) I'm definitely positive on it, but again, as long as it's at least 75% off.
One of my top choices for contemporary point and click games for its beautiful pixel art, a vast array of characters (enough to supply you with favorites and annoyances), very knowing puzzles throughout the whole game calling back to classic games and leading forward with new ideas, and music that had me happily leaving the game on while relaxing around the house. I was stumped on a few puzzles and felt great when you suddenly see the solution and even the deaths were all entertaining when they'd happen. The achievements were very fun and the deathless ship sailing challenge was such a difficult but good homage to classic games. The artist does such an incredible job at changing a characters resolution with the distance from the camera and often think back to this game enjoying the layout, world, lighting, and color of the entire experience. A hidden gem among click and points and highly recommend this to anyone that may be interested.
Not too long, but also not very short. The overarching theme is maybe familiar and one you've already seen often, but it is well executed. I never get bored of games with people-animals, and the art is good! The game feels light and jovial, but without feeling like it's written by someone lacking life experience.
A cute litte point & click adventure game which ewokes strong memories of classic Lucas Arts games. Well written, funny, and overall a good time. My only issue with the game is that the ending felt extremely rushed and unsatisfying (it's obvious that they had to cut content and force some exposition at the end) and like two of the puzzle solutions were moon logic. I do recommend the game though.
I bought it because it sort of peaked my interest, and i kind of forgot about it until steam put it on 85% off. i decided to buy it and all, played it throughout 2 days....and honestly, it's actually pretty good. i loved some of the puzzles, HATED THAT ONE SECTION OF THE BOAT SEGMENT though it's pretty fun, and i loved the story after all that. Honestly, it's pretty worth buying. also the deer is just adorable, a cute little venado.
A super charming hidden gem that honestly deserves a lot more attention! It's a very solid point and click adventure with a story that I found myself sucked into, with lovable characters and it's all highly interactive, I was really surprised at the sheer amount of unique lines of dialog there are for trying all kinds of things that in most other similar games would've just gotten the same few canned responses. It also never allows you to softlock yourself or enter a state where the game can't be completed without having to reload a much earlier save, unlike many other point and click adventures. The music and art is also super charming, it's a delight to look at and I love the little jingle that plays everytime you figure out the solution to a puzzle. I'm hoping for a sequal! (this games universe would also make for a fun Pen and Paper rpg setting)
Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard feels like a 90s adventure game. The graphics, the resolution, the humor, the puzzles, the ridiculous setting... everything is there. You can tell the creators have taken much care and love for the genre while creating this game. I truly recommend it for those looking forward to play a game that captures exactly the same vibe and playstyle as in the genre's golden era. The game offers an "easier mode", I haven't tested it and went directly to the classic style to play with the intended difficulty, but it is an interesting addition for newcomers to the genre.
