From Obsidian, this game is a historical narrative-driven game focusing on character development, heavily stylized art, and choice-driven storytelling in early 16th century Bavaria. Players will play as Andreas Maler, a clever illustrator caught up in a series of murders in Tassing and Kiersau Abbey over the course of twenty five years. Players will be responsible for conducting their own investigation to decide the fate of the community, but each decision will have lasting consequences and inexorably draws Andreas closer to the center of an underlying conspiracy.

GEM ALERT. The best game I've played this year; One of the best games I've ever played, period. - Delivers fantastically on the aesthetic promised. - Expertly written story with compelling characters. - A deep well of interesting medieval history. Pentiment is a true must-play for anyone with even the slightest interest in history. Its beautifully portrayed characters allow me as a player to empathise with the perspective of the people from another time in a way I've never experienced before. The player has real, interesting choices to make and there is ample drama in dealing with those choices. The game's ending is unexpected to say the least, no matter what your suspicion is on the answer to the various mysteries. Overall, a stunning experience. I recommend going in completely blind. Take with you only the half-remembered lessons from secondary history class.

I love this game so much. I've never seen or played anything like it. I'm a big fan of medieval history especially in games and movies - but I strongly prefer when it's historically accurate. Pentiment is a work of fiction but for history nerds, they do work in a lot of real world facts and try to be as historically accurate as possible. The game itself is extremely charming, I get so immersed in the story - it's a mystery story, by the way. I truly enjoy learning the characters, the land, and reading all the dialogue. Now, this game is a visual text adventure, so it's not for everyone. It satisfies an extremely niche corner in gaming. But if you enjoy point and click adventures, medieval history, and charming characters, I strongly urge you to try this game. This game is such an incredible joy to play (and replay, since you do get to make different choices throughout the game). My only gripe is I wish there were more games like it.
Painstakingly made, overflowing with gorgeous art and facts, rooted in realities of 16th century life while providing excellent characters at every turn. With a good mystery to boot. Lags a bit towards the end but the climax is worth hanging in there for.
