Penny Arcade’s “On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4” concludes the saga of Tycho Brahe, Scion of The Long Project, and his almost certainly human partner Jonathan Gabriel. The world has been destroyed, but existence extends beyond this mortal plane in the gruesome Underhell!

"Пenny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4" — яркая, но не без недостатков часть серии.
On the Rain-Slick precipice of Darkness, Episode 4, warrants much of the same commentary that the 3rd episode does. It's worth noting though, that there are some crucial differences. Firstly, while in episode 3 you control Gabe and Tycho, and your special attacks are decided by one or more class choices, in episode 4, the main characters act as trainers, providing their 'class specific' attacks to each monster you find - more like Pokemon than Shining Force. This is fine, but it makes the characters a little more forgettable than in episode 3. The setting too weakens the story-telling - fewer opportunities for story-telling exist in the game due to the hell setting, and while the world described is clever and interesting, it's not quite as good as the noir stylings of the 3rd episode. Ultimately the real question is down to whether you like this style of game, and the (particularly late game) somewhat rote combat loop. It's a great example of the genre, and while I personally prefer the class system in episode 3, the variation and implementation here is both clever and well done. Music and sound are good, in the chip-tune format of games of this type, but obviously after 12 hours the combat music can get a bit wearing. It can always be disabled though (though oddly only from the main menu). Overall, for itself I don't think it's own story pulls it through, but in context of the other 3 games, and given the excellent gameplay implementation, I recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing game to play - but get episode 3 and play that first...

¡Hola, chicos! Pepinillos DIXIT. No toméis drogas.
I love Penny Arcade, or, at least, I love the 2000s era of the webcomic, before they got really big. It was wild, and free and weird, just like the Internet was in those days. The joked about everything and anything, all from a perspective of gamers, and that resonated with me. These games (I'm going to copy the review, or parts of it, to all four episodes) are not exactly that, but they evoke the same emotions and atmosphere, with a healthy dose of Lovecraftian horror. Episodes 1 and 2 are very light RPG games, with real time combat and a neat 3D visual style. Episode 3 is a straight up JRPG, while Episode 4 is a JRPG/Pokemon kind of game. All four games follow the same story, which starts off like a fairly classic Lovecraftian RPG in Episodes 1 and 2, but transforms into something much much weirder in 3, and especially 4. The ending of Episode 4 is completely worth it, and I was very happy after I played through all the games. The massive change of visual style between the first two and last two episodes can put some people off, but it didn't really bother me. Ultimately, this whole series is something I would recommend to PA webcomic fans, but also to people who are looking for a fresh dose of weirdness, even if they never heard of the comic. The story, setting and characters are just perfect, whereas the gameplay is a secondary concern.

Boring
i will never be okay again.
For a RPG Maker game, this is actually not bad.
