About
In PARKSIDE, the future of biomechanical subterfuge and suffering is revealed through the story of Alexander Petrovich, an unemployed hacker who is kidnapped by a mysterious group known as the Illuminated Brethren of Conclave Automata.
Will he bend to the will of the Brethren and aid in realizing their vision for humanity, or will he take the hand of a guardian angel? Though, no matter his choice, a sinister voice in his head warns that judgement is inevitable.
PARKSIDE is a First Person Shooter / Immersive Simulation, with a focus on freedom, choice, and consequences.
Set in the fictitious city of Abbotsford, California in the year 2038, the world the player experiences is the result of four years of shrouded meddling by the Illuminated Brethren - the environment is cold and unforgiving, the people are drab and demoralized, narcotics and gangs are rife, and military police walk the streets. How has it come to this?
Following his capture by the Brethren, Alexander is interfaced with an experimental combat platform known as POLYPHEMUS. Through a piece of technology called the Remote Combatant Viewer, he is sent to complete illicit, dangerous missions for the Brethren, whose directives come from the mysterious Divine Rod.
Many tools are at the player's disposal to tackle problems including a roster of futuristic weapons, armaments such as EMP grenades and frag mines, and abilities that can be used to navigate all manner of obstacles. You can hack or bypass keypads, security cameras, turrets, and robots... or shoot them to bits - pick your poison and run with it as you navigate smoky streets, dark alleys, airy vents, and secret bases.
Choices matter - in the secret fight for control of the precious lives of all citizens, there are many powerful stakeholders. There is one important question with many answers and outcomes: are you a servant of the Divine Rod, Alexander?

Dev decided not to put in a basic manual save menu feature. No intentions to add one either. Would not recommend.
The game feels like it's an early access title. Problems already come up in the settings menu before even really getting started on playing the game. The sliders for audio volume- and camera speed tend to not work. Sometimes they don't let themselves get dragged around, and occasionally don't even change anything until you exit the menus and move them again. This makes things like getting a comfortable camera speed more tedious than it already is. Speaking of which, it'd be great if those would show the number value for the speed next to the slider, or maybe even have a "snap" for the sliders so that it locks to every 5th number like 60, 65, 70, 75 or whatever to make it easier to have a consistent desired camera speed. Another thing that immediately stood out is the game failing to load custom keybinds from the get-go. Whenever I load into a mission I'm forced to rebind a random action for it to load my set of custom keybinds. The game also lacks proper description of what it is that you're doing when interacting with things. In the first mission for example there are these little robot doggos walking around, and interacting with them lifts them up and alerts all forces around you, which then resulted in a quick death that felt undeserved and cheap. Not a good first impression to say the least. I assumed it'd open a little dialogue like with any other NPC that I've so far interacted with. This wouldn't have happened if this action would be properly labelled in the HUD with text like [TALK], or [PICK UP] or whatever. And in the mission after it when entering the PC shop and taking an item from the shelves, it too immediately alerts all guards. I mean in this case it makes sense since it's stealing. But a [STEAL] text would've made this feel a lot more intentional and make the player think twice before just taking stuff. Something else that I found strange is that for some reason the game is locked to 52 FPS, and I could not find an option to fix it. The graphics opitons are in general pretty lacking. There's only 3 presets to chose from and none of them describe the changes they make. The shading in dark spaces leaves a lot to be desired too. For example in the first mission there's this drug den house with a saferoom upstairs. To reach it I climbed over some trash to reach a small stair-room. Everything there in that small stair-room just looked flat and grey, even the angry drug addicts that were chilling upstairs and then ran towards me inside that little room. Everything there is covered in this flat grey color. At the end of the tutorial map there's a bus standing on the opposite side to the tutorial exit, and that too is covered in this weird layer of grey, although not as dense as the drug den stair room. I know first impressions aren't everything, and with only 65 minutes of playtime I've probably not gotten to the best or most outstanding parts of the game yet. But for a full game release it still feels rather underbaked. However I can see the potential, the inspirations, the passion and the effort that went into this game, and I really do want it to succeed, but with issues, some of them pretty big, like this, in a 1.0 release, ... idk, that's a pretty rough start imo. I'm definitely continueing to keep an eye out for this game. In its current form I don't feel like Parkside is ready to be fully enjoyed yet.

Man... Parkside just rocks. Played a good chunk of the playtest and was amazed by how ambitious the numerous systems of the game are. Plenty of depth and ways to accomplish any given objective. Deus Ex comparisons are apt and accurate. It's jank, ofc, but I think this adds to the experience all around. There is a hell of a lot to explore and exploit in this sludgy "low-cyberpunk" setting that makes this game stand out as a top of the line immersive sim. Regarding the save system people seem so upset about, I just don't get it. Dev has his reasons for implementing saves in the way he has, and I believe it benefits the game. You can't load your save just because you missed a shot. So what! Adapt. It's an immersive sim. There are so many ways to proceed, and the save system encourages you to improvise if plan A fails. Please play Parkside!
it’s a bit finicky with inventory selection and I would like a dedicated holster button. otherwise it seems neat so far
my previous review doesn't matter. i understand it now. embrace it. you will disappoint yourself if you don't try this, excellent imsim. jumping is still weird as hell though it seems like you can only jump a centimeter on some objects, also randomly indoors. really kills the flow of movement
ehhhh, if you dont mind not having traditional save states, as in you only get a checkpoint(s) per level and can't save and go do something else, no savescumming for those that like that, and only pick up at the beginning of each level if you decide to close out or anything, and like stuff like Deus Ex, you'll like this. Otherwise, this isn't really the game for exploring and trying to find secrets or anything else. Jump in and just crush every mission and dont mess around too much. Cool game outside of that big issue of no save states in the middle of levels/missions. I wish steam had a "neutral" option
I gassed an entire store by mistake, when I went in and saw what I did, a police officer shot me for attempted shoplifting, this had the effect of igniting the gas and killing everyone. This is one of my favorite games now.
played the playtest for 68.8 hours, good game, creep helped me with a scratch i had on my lower back.
have not finished yet, but absolutely amazing so far. like the deus ex sequel I've been dying for finally come to life, mixed with the psychedelia of an old avant garde anime like Angel's Egg or Lain, feels like a game specifically crafted to appeal to my tastes, really needs more recognition
