I went into this expecting a Jet Set Radio game. What I didn't expect was precision 3D platforming and Nier style boss fights. Extremely stylish art. Frustrating at worst, tremendous at best. ♥♥♥♥ that final boss.
This game was great up until chapter 5 then for whatever reason it turned into Returnal and I did not sign up for that style of game when for the longest it was playing like a version of jet set radio on steroids. Outside of that great art style though, character design is pretty good and so is the music but that gameplay towards the later end is hit or miss at least to me.
Decent kinda fun gameplay that gets completely overshadowed by the terrible game design. Feels frustrating to play a lot of the time because of it. It's a shame because I would've recommended it otherwise.
Very underrated and amazing hidden gem. I loved every moment. It has so much depth in it's movement. The soundtrack is great and it's visuals are awesome. It is very well programmed and has so much customization.
It goes without saying the artwork is some of the best I've ever seen in a video game. The platforming and combat is solid, a nice balance between needing to develop some skills to do well in the game while also being fluid and responsive.
got boring pretty quick
Great platforming moveset allied with great level design allows you to go through the stages in several ways, trying to shave seconds off your best time with each try! RKGK almost snatched my GOTY pick for 2024. The sense of flow is ridiculously satisfying once you get the hang of the movements and jumps. Each move is there for a reason, with their pros and cons, like using a basic (safer) jump for more precision while losing some momentum or going faster with the dash and risk overshooting the next platform. The soundtrack kicks major ass! Powerful, adrenaline-pumping Drum and Bass sounds to motivate you going faster and faster. The main character is cool and can be customized with lots of options, as well as her robot drone friend. The visuals ooze with urban style. The story has an impactful message that gets more relevant each day. The only thing I disliked are some boss battles which take too long and you have to avoid several patterns for a chance to attack. But that's about it! Wabisabi Games, you got yourselves a new fan. You definitely have the skills and creativity to make captivating movement-based games. I'm already looking forward to your next project!
Dear devs, it's your first game and it's a buggy mess. I can't play it. You get an F, for not having it fixed over a year since launch.
Be warned
Objects will block your view. Since it's monochromatic, there will be moments were you can't tell if it's a hazardous ground or not. RKGK is a basic game, but it's fun. It's a nice balance between a hack and slash and a Sonic like. Movement is solid although it'll get you killed more often than not. Combat is just enough to keep you engaged. Dialog and story is alright, but it's not it's specialty. If you like weird simple PS2 games, you'll like this.
Also, ♥♥♥♥ the "boss" of world 4 and the last boss is extreme bs.
