Review
📜 Intro Pandamonium is an action and platform game with slight metroidvania touches where you play a mining panda who finds the gate to hell? and is forced to fight against creatures with his pickaxe in order to return home, the game is early access and only has two biomes and two bosses so it could be considered the introduction or demo (1 hour). 🎨 Art and music The art design is a combination of very good looking 2D pixel art with simple 3D modeling resulting in a kind of 2. 5D that looks good in general but sometimes because the pixel art does not have motion animations end up looking like PNG moving as if you drag them across the screen (the sand worms), generally the other pixel art are of good quality, especially the enemies that are very well detailed but the main character the panda is far behind in quality and gives an ugly appearance that seems to have fewer pixels and be of a previous generation. The music on the other hand is not bad as such but the selection for each level is not optimal in my opinion since the music at the beginning is too calm and simple that perhaps would improve with environmental sound effects of mine or cave, unlike the music of the boss levels if it is epic and motivating. The game does not have voice acting, instead they use distorted voices for the characters like they use in hollow knight but it is very similar to steam world dig, which gives more life to the characters. 🎮 playable mechanics The game is mainly a platformer with light combat very similar to the dark souls style of hit and retreat, a style of combat that I am not a fan of in 2D games as it is somewhat tedious and boring, even so the platforming section is interesting and somewhat challenging as well as having the mechanics of the old games to add artificial difficulty such as instant death and not having checkpoints (platform level prior to the second boss). The game also has slight touches of metroidvania as during the adventure you acquire permanent power up upgrades, such as the double jump, a hook and the two most useless I've seen, as they are; The ball hit on cornices (elements that only come out once) to roll and go faster and the one to run, which is by pressing a button but without pressing any direction and can not be used in motion which makes it totally unnatural to use and useless, on the other hand the hook is useful but is poorly designed as it can not propel you once you are already fastened nor lengthen or shrink it to jump shorter or longer distances, so if you hook wrong and you can not correct due to the lack of these mechanics and probably end up in an instakill. There are also winks or references in this game as the rescue of mini beavers to take them to his father, in the style of hollow knight larvae a touch that adds exploration of levels to find the secrets. 💭 Conclusion The game is interesting and could become very good but it lacks a lot of polish and more content, the hitboxes of the enemies are unfair they can damage you but you can't damage them (boss 1), the theme of the hook and the "improvement" of running, Besides that the game is poorly designed to be played with controller especially the menus as you control a pointer with the stick, another very negative aspect is the lack of vertical synchronization that limits the fps, because all the time the game is demanding the maximum your pc without needing it even if you play in low graphics. Can not recommend the game 100% because although it is a proposal is interesting the game has gameplay and performance failures that impair the gameplay, being an early access game may or may not be fixed these problems so I recommend adding it to wishlist and wait for an update of the game.
