This is a personal thing and I'm sure that a lot of people won't mind what I had but... The panda feels tooooo slugish and the movement just doesn't feel right.... i really didn't enjoy controlling it and moving through the level and the UI as well... It just feels like this game was designed to be a mobile game for some reason and not something that is on par with other platformers that I enjoy and used to. Again, personal opinion i'm sure that there are people that enjoy these things :) But I couldn't play this game for more than 10 minutes because of that.
Panda Hero is a colorful side-scrolling platform adventure developed by Markt+Technik and published by familyplay and Markt+Technik. Designed with accessibility and family-friendly entertainment in mind, the game delivers a classic platforming experience built around exploration, combat, collectibles, and level progression. Rather than attempting to modernize the genre with complicated mechanics, Panda Hero embraces the timeless formula that made traditional platformers popular, creating an adventure that is easy to understand while still offering enough variety to keep players engaged from beginning to end. Players step into the role of a brave panda warrior embarking on a journey through a wide range of imaginative environments. The adventure spans dozens of levels, each filled with enemies, obstacles, hidden items, and platforming challenges. While the story remains simple, it effectively provides a reason to continue pushing forward through increasingly difficult stages. The focus remains firmly on gameplay, allowing players to enjoy the satisfaction of overcoming obstacles and discovering secrets without becoming distracted by overly complex narrative elements. The platforming mechanics form the foundation of the experience. Running, jumping, and navigating hazardous environments make up the majority of the gameplay. The controls are designed to be approachable, making the game accessible to younger audiences and newcomers to the genre. However, as players progress, the stages introduce more demanding jumps, trickier layouts, and additional hazards that require improved timing and precision. This gradual increase in difficulty creates a satisfying learning curve that encourages players to refine their skills. Exploration is another important aspect of the game. While reaching the end of each level remains the primary objective, players are rewarded for taking their time and investigating the environments. Hidden pathways, secret collectibles, and bonus rewards are often tucked away in unexpected locations. This encourages curiosity and adds replay value, as players may revisit levels to uncover content they initially missed. The search for hidden items helps make the world feel more interactive and engaging. Combat adds variety to the platforming-focused gameplay. The panda hero is equipped with a bamboo staff that can be used to defeat enemies encountered throughout the adventure. In addition to close-range attacks, ranged projectiles provide another way to deal with threats. These combat mechanics remain simple but effective, giving players enough options to handle different situations without overwhelming them with complicated systems. The balance between movement and combat helps keep the gameplay fresh across the many levels. One of the game's strongest features is the variety found within its environments. Players travel through forests, caves, snowy regions, elevated platforms, and other colorful settings that each offer their own visual identity and gameplay challenges. This constant change of scenery helps prevent the adventure from becoming repetitive and ensures that there is always something new to see. The variety also extends to enemy placements and environmental hazards, which evolve alongside the player's progress. Collectibles play a significant role in maintaining engagement. Coins, treasures, and various bonus items are scattered throughout the levels, rewarding thorough exploration. Gathering these rewards provides a satisfying sense of progression and gives players additional objectives beyond simply completing stages. Completionists will likely enjoy searching every corner of the game in pursuit of hidden content and maximum rewards. Boss encounters provide memorable highlights throughout the journey. At key points in the adventure, players face larger and more powerful opponents that require greater skill and strategy than standard enemies. These battles serve as effective tests of the abilities developed throughout each world and provide a rewarding sense of accomplishment when defeated. The inclusion of these encounters helps break up the platforming and creates exciting milestones during the campaign. Visually, Panda Hero embraces a bright and cheerful cartoon-inspired style that perfectly suits its target audience. The colorful environments, charming character designs, and clear visual presentation contribute to an inviting atmosphere. While the graphics are not particularly advanced by modern standards, they successfully support the game's tone and make the adventure feel welcoming and enjoyable. The vibrant art direction ensures that the world remains appealing throughout the lengthy journey. The game's pacing is carefully structured to maintain a steady flow of challenges and rewards. New obstacles, enemies, and collectibles are introduced regularly, ensuring that players always have something to look forward to. The balance between exploration, combat, and platforming prevents any single element from overstaying its welcome, resulting in a gameplay loop that remains consistently entertaining. What ultimately makes Panda Hero enjoyable is its commitment to delivering a straightforward and polished platforming experience. It understands exactly what kind of game it wants to be and focuses on executing those ideas effectively. There are no unnecessary complications or overly ambitious systems distracting from the core gameplay. Instead, the game relies on solid platforming fundamentals, appealing visuals, and rewarding exploration to create a fun adventure suitable for players of all ages. Panda Hero may not redefine the platforming genre, but it successfully captures the charm and accessibility that have made classic platformers enduringly popular. Its combination of varied levels, collectible hunting, simple combat, and family-friendly presentation creates an enjoyable experience that remains engaging throughout its campaign. For players seeking a lighthearted adventure filled with colorful environments and traditional platforming challenges, Panda Hero delivers a satisfying journey that honors the genre's timeless appeal. This is not a very good video game. I played it for a patreon special for my podcast, The Stage Select, as voted on by our patrons. Panda Hero is a bare bones, boiler plate platformer that can't seem to make up its mind as to what kind of game it wants to be. On first glance it looks like a perfectly passable game for little kids. The character, graphics, and music are all suitably childish. But occasionally the levels ramp up to something approaching an attempt at making something more akin to Super Meat Boy. But the game can't maintain this level of difficulty for long, and then you'll have a run of ridiculously easy levels followed by a couple more brutal ones. Panda Hero is all over the place. Maybe that would be fine if there was some variety in the game, but there really isn't. Once you've gotten to the end of the third or fourth level you've seen 99% of what the game has to offer. Oh, and it's the same song for every level, at least up to the third world where I got to. Steam says I played it for 99 minutes, but I swear I played it closer to 3 hours. Or at least it felt like it was that long. I've played far worse than Panda Hero, but that doesn't mean you should play it. There are plenty of other games much more deserving of your time.
