Simple things just don't work. UI is very rough, and not at all user friendly. When I watched 4 characters all fighting each other pushing a door back and forth, all stuck and unable to re-path, I was done. It's just not very good unfortunately. Great idea, but the execution is below amateur. Too bad.
I am writing this review early because the dev deserves good reviews and for this game to be recognised. While playing Going Medieval i always wished there was a fantasy aspect to it, Orcs, magic etc. Now i have found it in Outland Kingdoms. Made by one guy and it's awesome. I will update this review at a later date.

This game is far from ready. I wouldn't suggest buying it for 25 dollars. Updates are flowing very infrequently.
Im just starting off in the game, im hoping too play with more quests, tasks, but i like it so far! im hoping for lots of customization and dialogue! i love the personality of the game and characters so far, i was laughing because i put the campfire in my villagers wooden house and uh.. IT STARTED BURNING DOWN! AND MY PREGNANT VILLAGER WAS TRYING TO PUT IT OUT AND I WAS LIKE GIRL ITS FAR PAST SAVING GET OUT OF THERE, then another one was sleepign in there with the fire and all the supplies burned :( it was so goofy lol but it made me laugh alot. i played similar games and that never happened so i should have thought oh uh maybe a campfire isnt such a good idea on a wooden floor.
I came to write this review after expressing my thoughts on Facebook. I HIGHLY recommend trying this game. Yes I haven't played long but I can tell this is a well put together game. Let's get into it. One thing that stuck out to me immediately, was the day and night cycle and season changes. When it comes to kingdom building games, details like those always tend to get overlooked. You're saying people don't sleep? They don't get tired? Cold? Hot? Etc. The cycles ad depth to the game. It's a small gesture but impacts greatly. Like you shouldn't be able to grow crops in the winter so you better get by on trading or have a storage of food supply handy. Little things like that. Now the building is also really detailed. You can build your kingdom how you want. Down to creating paths. Each building isn't a pre-built structure. You build it yourself. Giving you freedom to make your kingdom unique. It's nice to see and read what your civilians are thinking and expressing themselves. Gives you an idea on what they may need. Even if you think your kingdom is solid already. The game is only around 2GB. So it's easy on your PC. A potato PC should have no issue running this. Is there any changes I'd like to see? A few. One being a larger map and better camera option. I'd love to have a map to make my creativity go wild and I'd like the option to zoom out further on the screen to see more of kingdom at a time. I'd like to see hopefully more races. Maybe a wolf race or more? The more variety in that would be awesome. Lastly I'd like to have the option to oppose the eternal emperor. Personally when I build a kingdom and run it, I expect to be the one no one has to answer to. I'm the king (or queen). I built all of this so why do I have to pay you in taxes? Something like that. Overall it's a very well put together game and it's only in early access. Also done by ONE PERSON! Go support them where you can. I can't even fathom the things they plan to add in later. Nicely done!
Its a great game, complicated to get the hang off, and its definitely buggy, but all in all i feel like the bugs are somewhat minor until you get further into the game, and have more people. i have instances of people getting stuck in place or the point of every visitor being a pink blob with clothes and everyone dies cause the merchant just never goes to take orders. it would also be very awesome to keep the demolish button on all items and structures forever, the demolish order is ruff to use in a small space with lots of things. id also like to see some sort of more advanced military stuff like perhaps being able to assign peoples to certain houses and giving guard routes, and the settlement priority list is a bit iffy it seems like they have a mind of their own sometimes even if i dedicate a single priority to one person. i love this game to bits, i could easily see myself wasting another 200 hours with these minor improvements and easily spending another 10-20$ on some sort of expansion pack dlc 🙏🙏👍👍👍🥇 Edit: I have been playing this game on and off for quite some time and the dev really working their hardest to keep things going, some of what i originally said still stands, no more pink blobs however, merchants at one point in one of my games just started appearing everyday and auto reseting to map edge, they would then just kinda hang out outside my base because all of my doors were locked to neutrals, well i paid no mind to the first two that did this and kept on building my little stronghold, lowandbehold i get a message saying my prestige was lowered because they couldnt leave and most of them were starving or already dead littering the entire woods of my map, now i make it seem like there was a lot because let me tell you, once i realized i tested it and found not only did two new merchants spawn every day twice a day like clockwork the world was permanently stuck repeating the 5th of winter for a total of three ingame seasons that i was paying attention to it at least, i had over 57 different dead bodies that were unmovable and would actually despawn after a period but the kicker was the like 200 living merchant who all kinda congregated in a group near the map edge fighting over scraps of berries and stuff my ettles left from harvesting, also id like to mention i did actually solve this by destroying my dock on two different occasions, the merchant boat never left it would reverse then return throughout the whole period delivering more and more dudes, now when i started my second settlement i tried to do research after a greulling fight for survival only to find the research tab nonexistent on this second map, my solution was to return to the previous settlement using the hyper speed library and just research all the stuff again but it felt really cheap, i love the hippos in the new swamp area though they dont actually die they just exist in place forever after being hunted and continue to idle while beoing butchered and cooked very sad sight honestly, really adds to the cruelty of my royalty run, all that being said and if you even read this far firstly thank you and secondly this game is very fantastic, easy to sink days or weeks into just doing different playthroughs and styles of characters and settlements, my next task is to start a band of savages to rule the entirety of arkana but for now... This game has a little bit of everything for you. You can replay it countless times with unique play through every time. 10 out of 10 would recommend trying this out.
It was fun until suddenly 4 hours in everyone decided to stop farming and hunting and cooking and just starved to death. My best advice is to start with the world mage as your starting character. Thats the only real way to heal in the game. Even after researching herbal medicine and poultices I cant seem to find how to craft healing kits at all for survivors of raids. Had to rely on the world mage to heal dying people.
Can't reccomend this game as for now... Buggy, Slow and Boring for what it costs is a small developer and the game has potential but it just takes too long and some stuff keep happening. Resources appearing out of nowhere in your storage, lack of explanation in some stuff, hunted/killed beings end up in holes in the map that u are not able to reach leaving them to root there indifenetely or they direcly spawn in there, corpses textures getting stretched, citizens dont priorize perishing food nor cooked food to eat, they do other stuff over prioritized jobs, job assignment is a mess and also lacks some explanation, you have to pay a money tribute every month at early when you barely have any way to get this money, year one and still no quest rather than the tribute, some random messages for factions you never get to met and more...
Just bought this game for christmas and I have to say I LOVE IT!!!!!! I'm sooooo excited to see whats to come in the future!!!
