I was excited to play this game because of the Agrispirits. I love having pets that help with the farm or combat, but I was getting bored before getting them. The UI is kinda bland, no quest marker, no mini-map, the npcs seem to not have any character, story doesn't make sense. Everything feels like an empty void. I want to give it more time but I'm not sure. SO far, when you walk, you do not hear your own footsteps and you can't view your map. Having to go back and check the sign is annoying. I'll try it again if it gets any better.
I am borderline on yes/ no on recommending this game. The translation functional enough, but not everything translates. It was a very lazy translation. There are bugs on the programming. For instance a yes no option for approving something. I selected no first, because I wanted to check my inventory stacks. Decided a yup, I have enough for this thing. entered dialog and option to approve was No, No. Crops very limited and boring, but a bright spot is the creative ways to water crops. The drone fun. I think the animal bar? very cute and clever. Perhaps make a mini game you can play with them, or a training program that will make them more fit for future races, or something like that. The spirit creatures maybe add a monster rancher vibe to it. Train them to devlop certain abilities, or something. It just feels like at a point lots of worthless lay abouts on my farm. Have things have uses. At this point most tasks just seem like the thing you do just to unlock the next thing. This is common with those that don't really play/ love cozy games. They just don't fully understand why people like me like them. Much of it is copying of the surface level oh they seem to like pokemon maybe throw them a cute companion. The pets for instance cute, but zero purpose for their existence, except being there. Harvest Moon Bizarre creators may want to play to see ways to have things there make sense. Oh, and the blob white people really HATE that choice. It is a constant reminder of how few interactive NPC's there are.
Highly recommend this game. This one flew under my farming radar, I'm glad I accidentally stumbled onto it. I've seen people complained about the NPC looking characters, but honestly I think its hilarious. It made this game its own charm. The dialogue in this game is so out of pocket comical that it made my boyfriend who is not into farming games wanting to know whats happening next in my game. Highly recommended if you want to play a lighthearted farming sim!
It is a delightful game, but it is incomplete. I bought this on sale, despite negative reviews on YouTube. The English translation is bad and there are bugs, but I'm still smitten with its goofy style. I'm always unlocking things by surprise, and for the weirdest reasons, and they keep throwing more and more on my plate that I can do or work towards. People don't seem to enjoy the humor in it, but it is very Chinese "nonsense comedy" a la Stephen Chow. If you've played "Song of the Prairie," it is similar in its absurdism, but Oriental Valley doesn't have quite as many head scratching moments. Oriental Valley makes sense, even if just barely. Pros: Weird and quirky with lots of at least somewhat unique systems that are introduced, often by surprise. Nice graphics, even if they are Unity assets or whatever--it's a pretty game! Runs fairly well on the Steam Deck--some of the menus go off the screen, but I've been playing it entirely on the Steam Deck. It loads fast! Being kind of janky, there are exploits where you can make more money than maybe the developer intended--to me that's quite satisfying. Cons: You do need patience, and it is likely helpful to go in with the expectation that this won't be a refined experience. Some things you can only do on certain days which leaves you without much to do during the in-game week after you get to a certain point. Some things aren't translated at all which makes it very difficult nearer the end. All in all I'm on the fence with this one. I'd suggest a purchase if on sale and you know what you're getting into. What are you getting into exactly? A fun, goofy, flawed game. One that I'm playing but don't know if at a certain point I'll have to leave it incomplete because I don't speak Chinese.
