Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition

This game is insanely challenging, and it frustrates me so much!! But it's so addictive that i can play it for hours when i'm bored. My hands are completely cramped after every session, yet i still can't stop playing (╥ ᴗ ╥)

This game is the best MetroidVania I have ever played, I love 2D platformers and this was one of the best I've played. For someone who dislikes MetroidVania games, Ori didn't get confusing on where I had to go or any of the other problems I have with MetroidVania/Hollow Knight games. The game has a combat system, but unlike the second game, Ori Will of the Whisps, this game focuses on the platforming side. 10/10 platformer!

[h1] What is this game? [/h1] Ori and the Blind Forest is a precision platformer with metroidvania aspects. The game follows a little light spirit called Ori - who has to go through various rigorous tasks to bring back the light to the spirit tree. All of this whilst being hunted by the evil bird "Kuro". [h2] Price/replay value [/h2] Horrible - Bad - Decent - [u] Good [/u] - Amazing [h2] Achievement hunting [/h2] Various smaller achievements related to combat, platforming, collectibles... Generally not the worst as the game gives you all the tools to clean them up easily. [i] The remainder however... [/i] There is an achievement for doing the game deathless (I'd call myself good at this genre and still died 200 times), one for not using the skill tree (self explanatory pain), one for beating hard mode (almost everything will 1-2 shot Ori), and one for beating the game in 3 hrs. - Not for the faint of heart. The platforming is very flowy and can truly shine once the player has most of the abilities. Bash is also a very enjoyable movement ability with a lot of versatile use, and generally fun to use in my opinion. The story was fairly simple, though quite bittersweet. I do have 2 major gripes with this game however. The fact that so much of the late game becomes instant kill terrain/traps makes it quite infuriating to finish the latter dungeons as you'll often find yourself having to repeat a section over and over... Just to get past a few lasers with wacky hitboxes. If they didn't 1 shot on normal/hard I probably would've found more enjoyment in these sections. The 2nd gripe (although maybe nitpicky) is that saving is wholly done manually for 98% of the game, and thus can be very awkward in how it works. A lot of "dangerous" areas will refuse save points, which yes, does stop softlocking. But it also means you can't save during some absolute platforming gauntlets that could've really used save points. Similarly this can still softlock you as you can run out both energy and health cells, meaning you might be stuck in a really bad spot. (This is especially prevalent in the misty woods where save points can be removed entirely by the map.) That said - I did enjoy this game and would generally still recommend it. Just keep in mind that it's not really the cutesy and wholesome platformer it might portray itself as... Rather a brutally difficult platforming gauntlet which happens to also be cutesy and wholesome. [h2] tldr; [/h2] Really difficult. Also pretty sweet. [h2] Should you buy it? [/h2] I'd recommend giving it a spin if you like the genre.

Ive loved this game since I was a kid, i cry everytime i beat it though

4.5★ The way Moon Studios use colors is very beautiful, I found myself mesmerized at every corner in this game, where it lacks depth its sequel makes up for it
