A small group of Orchs (strong human body, blue skin and a head that strangely resembles Alf), who goes under the name of the Tusk Clan, has had enough of the Merovian’s oppression and starts a revolution. Mind you, to win this conflict, they’ll need to reunite the entire Orchs clans. The Galaxy is full of surprises, and this one is Orch Star. Orch Star is a space strategy / action game where you take control of Orca Wartusk, his clan and lead them in the rebellion they have started. You can play this game on a normal monitor and with a VR setup such as HTC Vive or Occulus Rift. I must admit up front, the VR option will give you the greater experience. You’re in space, surrounded by planets, asteroids and a sun, and in the middle of that, you are controlling your fleets. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fine playing on a monitor, but it is not as immersive. The game offers three modes of play: campaign, multiplayer and skirmish. As this stage, this game is currently on Early Access and the campaign has 12 missions available to play. The multiplayer will allow you to search or host a game. I couldn’t find any games myself (probably due to the time zone). However you can setup either a free-for-all against three other players, a one versus one or a two versus two game. The skirmish is pretty much the same as the multiplayer mode against bots, and let me tell you the AI is pretty damn good on a normal level. The gameplay is absolutely fantastic and I personally enjoy the VR option (I had to stop because one of my controllers ran out of charge). Before starting any game modes, you’ll appear on the control deck of your spaceship. As you launch your first mission, your vessel will speed up to a light jump, which is superbly done. To be honest, I was not expecting that, and it made me jolt back in surprise. From here, you’ll be prompted by a box if you want to play this mission with hints (small tutorial). Each of the missions will have a certain number of asteroids and planets; some will be under your enemies’ controls and the others will be free for the taking. Each of them has a specific number above it, as well as what type of vessels will automatically be built when you manage to conquer them. There are four types of ship classes: fighter, corvette, frigate and warlock. For example, you might send part of your fleet to one asteroid with the number 20 above it, and at this location it will only built fighters. While on another one, you might get 10 frigates and 20 corvette ships. It’s extremely easy to split your fleet regardless of whether you are using a VR setup or your mouse and keyboard. The fighting will only occur when you attack a location and you can easily zoom in or out of the action. The trick is to successfully send part of your fleet from different locations you have already conquered, and make sure don’t lose them back to your opponents. You do have a few extra on hand when you progress through the campaign. The AI is really good and it will get substantially trickier with each new mission. So far, this is very neat in all aspects. Graphically, the game looks good and I haven’t encountered any issues either while using my HTC Vive or my mouse and keyboard. There is not much of a soundtrack and there is no voice over which I think it would enhance the experience. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t find an online game. Positives: ~~~~~~~ - Good graphics - Playable on VR setup and on normal monitors - Campaign, multiplayer and skirmish modes - Easy to play with good controls - The AI is really good and the difficulty increase progressively - Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - No voice over - Small online community - No trading cards at this stage The Red Haven Galaxy is definitely one to know, experience and mainly to conquer! We are waiting for you on Orch Star! 8/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! This game works surprisingly well without ar VR kits, but I've tested it with an HTC Vive as well, and let me tell you; it really brings an extra dimension to the game! (sorry). It is just a marvellous feeling to gaze upon this beautiful, vivid space and be there. I am a space nerd and honestly would not need an actual game, I could just travel around space and be happy. There is a game though! About an orc rebellion, and you are here to make sure it happens. You need to think levels through and most likely you wont pass them all on the first try. I have not played the game through yet, but the beginning is promising. Don't miss out on this if you have a VR kit!
2 Minute Video Review → https://youtu.be/TcWuSS1D_Q4 Orch Star is a planetary conquest strategy game. The gameplay is similar to Lazerbait, which is a free game, but Orch Star surpasses it with a high level of polish and more complex strategy. The goal is to send your ships to capture planets, which in turn grant you more ships to capture more planets. Certain planets will grant you specific ships, and each class of ship has unique characteristics, as you’d expect. The game has a high level of overall polish, down to just the little details like how a unique fleet of ships will fly in unique formations as they travel from planet to planet. You can tell a lot of love was poured into this game. The game also has serene peaceful space music, which I really enjoyed. There’s a campaign mode with a sci-fi storyline, which quickly gets difficult in my opinion. As well as skirmish mode and multiplayer mode. The multiplayer is also cross-platform, so you and friends can play either on VR or just on your flat monitor. Once I got the hang of the gameplay I really enjoyed it. It’s quite challenging and it’s beautifully made. For space strategy fans I highly recommend it.
This title may be EA, but it is very well put together already. Graphics are almost on par with AAA titles. Runs perfectly with no reprojection with 2X SS on a GTX 1070. Has the best view of space I've seen in VR so far (there are some titles I haven't played yet to compare). Sound quality is 10\10. This game type has never been something that I gravitated towards, but I found it to be quite enjoyable and addictive. The fact they added cross platform play that translates well between VR and non-VR windows desktops is a BIG plus. I did recieve this title free, but in no way did that lend a hand in recieving a positive review. Orch Star earned the thumbs up I give it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxFv0FDmkL0&feature=youtu.be
Well... it is difficul to like this game. It is very well done and the VR experience is nice. graphics are outstanding, gameplay is well thought... But I believe the game is just lacking essential element for me. Ressource management, building fleet etc... after a couple of scenario I was left to believe this is it, just capture point, get ships total increasing, send them to weak spot and so and so on... I did not find it especially existing. It is probably something appealing for anyone who do not want to bother with more complexity than that or we want only to focus on the strategy level. But I need more . I could advise everyone to look at an another game, void Link. It is not that fancy graphicaly but it is more a classic RTS with ressources gathering and fleet builder. PS : I will not refund your game because I think you desserve my money for your great effort and the editor. I support you :)
[Holiday Update Review] Wow, man. I rarely get time to play games anymore, but I'm hooked between playing this... and praising it in this review. The 'Skirmish update' was just released, and it's awesome, especially since the game doesn't end if your AI allies are still fighting, which feels epic, because a lot of other games end the game when your 'own' forces are lost, even though you've put in a lot of effort and sacrifice to help your allies (You can exit via the menu if you've had enough popcorn). The campaign just gets better and trickier. This is strategy at it's best. The AI is top notch. Prepare to lose... and get right back in again.. with 'Magic', yes, 'Spaceships and Magic!' [Campaign only] [Original Review]Polished, balanced, tricky, fun, with great sound and atmosphere. It's great seeing VR 'Experiences' evolving from their humble beginnings. A must buy for strategy fans, and an intuitive intro to Real-Time Strategy games for the fans to be. Well worth the price. Ps. [Update! Just found the Zoom function. It looks even more awesome than I thought :) ]Don't be shy to skim the borders of the playing area, googling your ships. You'll be surprised at how detailed they are, when your eyeballs are so close to them. To the Devs, release a demo up to Level 3. I was compelled to write a review at how great this game is. Level 3 will have everyone hooked :) Well done.

I am very happy this was converted to the Windows Mixed Reality platform as well. I had purchased it before this had happend on the off chance it would work since I tried this at a game con and really liked it. Great game! Orch Star could use some more musical tracks though but aside from that this is so much fun.
This is a really nice looking strategy game in VR. The interface is simple to grasp and the game looks really nice, i often find myself looking closely at the detailed ship models than playing. It is also a good game to introduce new users to VR, friends that try it really like it.
Orch Star gives me a combined feeling like playing Homeworld and Anthill which i love! Playing without VR and are having an awesome experience thus far, but this game really makes me wanna scramble for that Vive to make it complete... The strategy gameplay feels uniquely challenging and is addictingly mind boggling. The soundscape design is spot on and makes it pleasingly imersive and dreamy.
