This is a top-down 2D survival game rendered in 3D. The premise is decent enough and fairly unique, as a stranger on a strange procedurally generated map. However the implementation is a huge letdown. Janky controls, very low quality graphics, no support for HD resolution (let alone UHD). You can switch to full screen (why is this not the default?) but because the art assets are poor (hard to tell if they are deliberately "retro pixel" or the developers didn't bother hiring an artist). The game comes across as unpolished and not really suitable for release on PC.
I would not recommend this game. However, it wasn't bad, but I got the game for $1 and got my money's worth out of it. Anyways... Tutorial was terrible and could be skipped past without any problems. The asteroid level/minigame in the beginning I absolutely hated, but I can see where it's needed for story (if the game has any) and I wish you could skip passed it at will (you can skip it if you fail too many times). Once you get to the game I enjoyed building the houses and doing quests to gain colonists. The most difficult part is figuring out how to tell them what to do. For one, someone has to plant trees and another cut when I feel like that should be one job, because the wheat planter also harvests. Your max inventory is limited to 5 item types with 16 being the max per stack. I could live with that since, but end up making a lot of stockpiles that only hold one type of item. Finally, it feels unfinished still: I found a few bugs and there is one resource I never found a use for that you have to mine from rocks. You can cook wheat to make bread, you can make flower out of wheat, and cook wheat into bread. Either way you make break you still end up with the same amount of bread per wheat and the colonists don't know how to cook flour so it's a useless resource. You can put the crafting bench, furnace and a stockpile in the houses, but I was only ever able to place a workbench and nothing else. I did get lucky a few times; I was able to place the furnace instead of a workbench and also place a stockpile in one house and that house also happened to have a workbench in it. I encountered a bug were if you gather over the 16 stack size in your inventory without unloading it, that resource vanishes into thin air. I found it because I was mining rock to build the big house which needs 16 stone. I mined over 16 and it disappeared. I just dismissed it as a fluke but it happened a second time too. After that I was very careful to never overload my character with resources.
Initially wouldn't run but after I got the game to start, it was ok. Tutorial wasn't fully flushed out so there were some game mechanics I had to figure out on my own. The UI is weird because sometimes you hover and release to grab an item and other times you click. After about 3 minutes of farming resources my inventory would be full and I couldn't pick up anything even if was an arrow that I just used said resources to make. Since there was no "Inventory capacity %" or weight value attached to the items, I had no idea when it was full or not. Also there was no hot bar to easily switch to frequently used tools (pick axe, hatchet, etc.). That made it harder to go out and farm or build. Overall, I'm glad I bought it on sale for like $2. Wouldn't have wanted to pay anymore for that. Still, there are much better survival/sandbox games out there.
Nope.
Abandonware. Dev has stated that they have moved onto another project.
The gameplay is interesting as you need to survive then command a small group of fellows to follow procedures to sustain the village. However, the UI is complex as it requires you to hold buttons then mouse over and other stuff.. I managed to set up some of the settler but have no idea how i did it.
So this game takes a swing at something I really want. Survival Crafter where you also run a village of NPCs. Unfortunately, its execution suffers from obtuse UI/controls, a very poor fighting mechanic, a very annoying feeding mechanic, and so far as I can tell very little content. I got it on sale for about $2 AUD, definitely don't regret the spend, but wouldn't recommend it as a game, just something interesting to check out
Controls are a bit tough in this game. However, there is a huge amount of things going on in this game so you need a lot of controls. Once you get use to everything this game becomes an engaging experience. If you enjoy top down survival games with a Toejam and Earl land build i would give this a shot.
This game COULD be great but the tutorial sucks. When you have to watch YouTube to figure out the basics to the game you know there is a probelm. I am a big supporter of indie games, fujlly knowing they are not complete but a good tutorial is the start to any good game. Without it in a game like this you get frustrated fast.
