One Last Chance

Pros: * Nice music * Nice art * Pleasant and easy to follow story * 6 endings * Good voice acting Cons: * Very short (my first story playthrough took me 45 minutes) * A bit expensive at 3.99 TL;DR Nice game to pass an hour of free time but a bit expensive, maybe wait for a discount for this one.

First, I must say that I loved the BGM (expect for the last song, I really disliked the vocals.. Sorry) and the art style. But the story and its characters… Err. The story is really short and everything is so forced. Tara is an annoying character, and I couldn’t care less about her. The endings were also rushed. Oh, and there’s the VA; it was [i]terrible[/i]. Like really, really bad. The text is also a pain to read; to be honest it’s almost unreadable. I don’t mind the Tyrano engine, I know it’s a very basic one and that’s ok. The problem here was the story, dialogue, and the choice of font colors. 2/10.

I liked this visual novel, a lot! :) Even though it's quite minimalistic and messy for what concerns the options and settings (you can't access to any kind of settings apart from the volume in the main menu, but you can choose a generic "skip" while playing), it has awesome artworks and graphics and features a nice story flow :) As I was saying, I'm not here to hide mistakes - there's no fast forward, and the "skip" option is quite awkward since it goes on and on 'till the next choice, making everything a bit complicated - even because if you wanna skip again after a choice, you've sometimes got to bring out the menu and click on "skip" again.. there are no other options. But you can deal with it, and on the other side if it's your first time you can click as with every other visual novel out there to follow all the dialogues. The game has also an awesome voice acting! I really loved it - the soundtrack isn't that great (it's quite monotonous, mainly on a "light" piano ambient side), but overall with the character's voices and so on everything works greatly. We also have a good save/load function - not every visual novel has them xD - so if you need them you can save whenever you want, even before making an important choice, and follow the dialogues as you please! I really loved the artwork. The backgrounds are awesome, they seem like real paintings, and while the characters are maybe "standardized" as the classic Japanese-like girls, they're still pretty and everything's always in its right place in my view. I'd had really really loved if we could have a gallery or something to see all the pictures! Not the characters maybe, but the backgrounds and so on.. there's no gallery option unfortunately, but still the visual novel isn't that long so that you can explore and see everything within some hours :) Before talking about the novel itself, just another line on the soundtrack: you can actually buy the DLC (I'm pretty sure that I got the full edition from some bundle), but it's just the soundtrack of the game and it features very few tracks, piano-based, and as I was saying in my opinion it isn't a great addition to your library. 3€ for such a short and standard "new age" ambient soundtrack isn't really something you want to spend your money on, but I think you can get everything in bundles and such :) (The ending track is sung but.. not my genre, definitely xD). The story is quite charming, it has many different endings (six in total if I'm not wrong) and it gets deep as you'll progress. It focuses on romance, and you'll play as a man that encounters a girl ("one last chance" will have its meaning through the game!) from her past on one of his trips and well, it's quite nostalgic. And all set in a Western environment. So, if you had crushes in your teen past or made wrong choices you'll identify with the main character.. :) And I liked that the story is very focused on reality, presenting us all the possibilities that could have happened to us if we made certain choices when we were teenagers, when we're adults, when we had the opportunity to choose between our Tara or our job.. and so, there's no nudity or sex themes - I like everything, and I liked this one being romantic, nostalgic and never out of tune. Almost everything is at its right place, and if it had some other options (like more skip/fast forward options, some galleries, a generic "better" way to deal with the "playing"-related things, like the ending credits that always pop up with the related (bad xD) song, the fact that you don't have a menu or it's quite buggy the fact that you can open it whenever you want also clicking with the right mouse button and so on) it would have been really perfect. But as it is, with its light and entertaining story full of romance and dips into memory lane, it's an awesome visual novel. Simple, light-hearted, but also deep at moments and well, it can get somehow really touching. Or, depending on your choices, it can stay shallow. Take your time to explore all the routes - it won't take too many hours, but it's worth the while. And the English voice acting is really delightful! The game's available only in English, but being completely voiced by professionists makes it really really enjoyable. Have fun! If you like visual novels, especially romantic ones without any nod to magical or awkward themes, this one will fit you :)

A short VN with a plot grounded on reality. It's more than just a story of a man rekindling his love for his long-lost childhood friend; it's also a simple reminder that in the midst of the complications of the modern adult world, we can always go back to simpler times and rediscover ourselves. And yes, I will support any VN with English voice acting.

There is so many bad things here that I don't know where to start. So I will just list some things that I disliked: - Voice acting is terrible. I felt like those people were reading vacuum cleaner adwert. No emotions at all. Terrible accent. Sometimes it's better to make VN without voice acting at all. - Background music could take part in music competitions for "elevator music". I had to mute it realy fast. - This VN is lacking all important settings. For example you can't choose to stop skipping after chices or if you haven't read text yet. - You can't rewind text that you have already read. So if you missed something you have to load savegame. - You can't skip subtitles (and if you want to get all endings - that kinda sucks). - To change music/voice level you have to quit to main menu first. - Story doesn't make sense. - At one point main character says that he didn't even know the name of the woman he was talking with. Fun fact - she had her NAME pinned to her jacked for the whole time! Whoever wrote that could read it before publishing. This is just terrible. Avoid.

While my VN reviews tend to focus on the story, that will not be the case with One Last Chance. That's because the story is really simple and the characters are nice, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, what stands out about this game is its execution. On the bright side, art is pretty nice and the game has full voice acting (...well, almost. Except for the protag), which is a pleasant surprise for English VNs. On the other hand, however... dialogue tends to be the same regardless of what option you pick, which makes it a little hard to know what direction you're going towards until you finally reach the end. You'll probably need to check a guide to finish it. The fact that dialogue is so repetitive and the only thing that changes is the ending makes it a little tiring and boring to replay in order to get the different endings/achievements. It is also very, very short (I have nearly 3 hours on it because it took me a while to figure out 3 of the endings, since the only guide on Steam didn't work on those for me, but my first playthrough took only about 30 minutes), so while it is definitely not expensive, it is still a little pricey considering what you get. If possible, I recommend you get it on sale. One Last Chance is a nice little visual novel, but that's as far as it goes given its ordinary story and execution issues. 6/10

A very good Visual Novel game. I recomment it. good and long Story. some endings. nice scenes. good graphic. relaxing music. options menu is good some good changing. nice girls. beautiful cool clothes. price is in offer alright. all achievements work.

Главный герой Бен Кэмпбел приезжает для заключения контракта с американским инвестором, последний далеко не самый приятный тип и на встречу вместо себя присылает супругу. Волею судеб Тара оказывается подростковой любовью Бена и они вместе проводят один день в попытках выяснить остались ли между ними чувства, и если они есть как быть дальше. В итоге мы получаем 6 вариантов завершения истории, в которых можно перевести всё в сугубо деловые отношения, поднявшись по карьерной лестнице или броситься в омут с головой, уволиться и уютно жить с уведённой женой банкира. По какой то странной причине в стиме рабочие гайды, как получить все достижения отсутствуют, поэтому искать правильные варианты придётся самостоятельно. На самом деле в One Last Chance действует интересная система - практически все ваши ответы дают или отнимают невидимые 1-2 балла от расположения Тары и именно от итоговой суммы зависит получаемая вами концовка. Понимание механики позволит за час с небольшим просмотреть все возможные варианты событий. Как показала практика всему миру очень далеко до Японии в рисовке и к сожалению One Last Chance приятным исключением не стала. В роли задников у нас выступают отретушированные фотографии, а в игре всего 2 нарисованные героини и вздохов вожделения они не вызывают совсем. Мне вообще непонятно почему разработчики использовали так мало картинок, всё действо проходит практически на 5 локациях, что явно недостаточно. One Last Chance озвучивали профессиональные актёры и у меня много вопросов к озвучке, к мужским голосам и даме с рецепшена претензий нет, но главная героиня отыгрывает отвратительно, извини у тебя судьба решается, ты уходишь из привычного для последних лет образа жизни, а голос как будто бульварный роман читаешь. Кстати, эта же актриса поёт финальную песню и местами здорово лажает, а некоторые сэмплы в самой композиции явно навеяны I Want It That Way от Backstreet Boys. К сожалению зацепить чем то One Last Chance практически неспособна, в игре поверхностный сюжет, а главные герои совершенно не раскрываются как личности. В их истории нет искренности, а значит не может быть переживаний за их судьбу. Поставлю 6.0 баллов, как поощрение дебютному проекту, брать исключительно по огромной скидке.
