If you're a Homestuck fan, I guess it's fine. Though I REALLY can't recommend this game to anyone else, specifically cause of the writing of 2 specific character routes... Maybe if you're like a super fan of Homestuck and want to check out everything about it... but if not, this really isn't worth it to be honest. Like, at all.
I don't follow the Homestuck universe, so I'm new to all this. It's hilarious without being stupid, turning a dating sim into a chaotic adventure in a crazy world. Mindless fun.
Despite the mixed art style and writing I absolutely adore friendsim. It perfectly captures that feeling of going out at night and trying to make friends in an often hostile world. Idk if I can recommend it to nonhomestucks but I adore this game.
What Is It? An Emotional Adventure of "Friendship Simulation" Hiveswap Friendsim - Volume Twelve is the twelfth installment in the acclaimed independent game series, part of the Hiveswap universe created by American author and artist Andrew Hussie. It is an episodic visual novel that blends role-playing, social simulation, and multiple outcome mechanics . In this series, you play as an unnamed protagonist (often considered the MSPA Reader) who has crash-landed on the dangerous alien planet Alternia and is desperate to forge friendships with its troll inhabitants . Volume Twelve continues the "friend-finding escapades" of the MSPA Reader . The game is described as a "quick, loosely-canonical visual novel adventure" set during the time of Hiveswap: Act 1 and featuring characters from the Hiveswap universe . Unlike traditional dating sims, the focus is on forming platonic friendships, with the developer describing it as a riff on the genre where "instead of trying to date a character, you just try to befriend them, and in the process, you get to know them better, and ridiculous things happen along the way" . Core Gameplay: More Than Just Choices, It's About "Empathy" Don't be fooled by its visual novel format—this is a psychological engagement centered on trust, social dynamics, and self-identity. The core mechanic revolves around making choices in dialogues and interactions that influence your relationship with the characters you encounter . Volume Twelve, like other volumes, focuses on two specific trolls from the Troll Call—Galekh Xigisi and Tirona Kasund . Your decisions shape the narrative and the outcome of your attempt to befriend them. Each volume, including Volume Twelve, offers a self-contained story centered on building a relationship with specific trolls. The choices you make determine the success or failure of your friendly overtures . The game is noted for its darkly comedic tone and is set in various locations on Alternia, from gritty underground clubs to stately mansions . The series is designed with high replayability due to the branching paths and choices that lead to different outcomes . Volume Twelve's specific content includes varying levels of violence and suggestive themes, depending on the character route taken . Who Is It For? Ask Yourself These Questions If you identify with any of the following, Hiveswap Friendsim - Volume Twelve (and the series as a whole) might be perfect for you: ✅ Fans of Narrative-Rich Games: If you enjoy visual novels or story-driven games like Hiveswap or the webcomic Homestuck, this is a direct expansion of that universe . ✅ Players Who Enjoy "Social Simulation" and Character-Driven Stories: The game is ideal for those interested in "character growth" and the evolution of interpersonal relationships through choice-based gameplay . ✅ Those Seeking a "Non-Combat" Experience: The focus is entirely on social interaction and narrative consequences, offering a different kind of satisfaction from combat-oriented games. However, a word of caution: ❌ Not for Action Seekers: If you prefer fast-paced action or intense combat, you might find the gameplay节奏 (pace) slower, as it is centered on reading and making decisions . ❌ Text-Heavy Gameplay: Progressing the story requires reading a substantial amount of text, which may not suit players looking for a quick, casual experience . ❌ Deals with Mature Themes: The game has a Mature 17+ rating for a reason. It can contain "violence, blood and gore, and strong language," and its stories often explore complex social and personal issues that may resonate deeply or cause discomfort for some players. It's advisable to check content warnings . Purchasing Advice and Recommendations Hiveswap Friendsim - Volume Twelve is available as downloadable content (DLC) and requires the base game, Hiveswap Friendsim, to play . The base game includes all 18 volumes of the series . A highly recommended option is to purchase the Pestersim bundle on Steam, which includes both Hiveswap Friendsim (all 18 volumes) and its sequel, Pesterquest (14 volumes), offering the complete "MSPA Reader Saga" at a significantly discounted price compared to buying them separately . This bundle goes on sale frequently, providing excellent value . The game is available on PC (via Steam), macOS, Linux, and Nintendo Switch . Its system requirements are very modest, making it accessible for most computers . Why It's Worth Playing The game's strength lies not in "beating" it, but in the experience of making choices and seeing how they impact the narrative. It fosters a unique sense of empathy by asking, "If I were in this situation, what would I do?" This level of immersion and character-driven storytelling is a treasured aspect of many modern independent games . * A Final Tip: For the best experience, consider playing the Friendsim volumes in order, as events from specific routes are sometimes referenced in later volumes, enriching the overall narrative .

Hiveswap Friendsim is an eccentric, emotionally chaotic, and surprisingly heartfelt visual novel that expands the Homestuck universe through a series of strange friendship stories filled with absurd humor, emotional vulnerability, and endless personality. Developed by What Pumpkin Games and published by Fellow Traveller, the game acts as both a companion piece to Hiveswap and a major exploration of Alternian culture, placing players into a bizarre alien society where survival depends less on combat and more on navigating social disasters, awkward conversations, and emotionally unstable trolls. While the game is heavily rooted in Homestuck’s unique style of storytelling, it succeeds remarkably well at building a memorable cast and delivering one of the most personality-driven visual novels available on Steam. The premise is intentionally ridiculous from the very beginning. After crash-landing on the dangerous alien planet Alternia, the unnamed protagonist quickly realizes they are completely unequipped to survive alone. Instead of becoming a hero or warrior, the player spends the game desperately attempting to make friends with the local trolls while navigating the bizarre rules and social structures of Alternian society. This setup forms the basis for eighteen episodic visual novel chapters, each focused on different trolls and wildly different social encounters that range from hilarious disasters to unexpectedly emotional conversations. One of the game’s strongest aspects is easily its writing. Friendsim captures the chaotic energy, internet-influenced humor, and emotionally messy storytelling style that made Homestuck so memorable in the first place. Conversations constantly bounce between absurd jokes, awkward social interactions, emotional confessions, philosophical rambling, and complete nonsense without warning. Characters often speak in exaggerated typing quirks and strange dialogue patterns that initially feel comedic, but many gradually reveal genuine emotional depth beneath their bizarre personalities. The episodic structure works extremely well because each volume feels like a self-contained story centered around a particular emotional dynamic or social situation. Some chapters focus almost entirely on escalating comedy and ridiculous misunderstandings, while others unexpectedly become introspective explorations of loneliness, insecurity, trauma, or emotional isolation. This tonal unpredictability helps keep the experience fresh throughout the entire collection. Since most episodes remain relatively short, the game also avoids overstaying its welcome before introducing new characters and scenarios. One of the most impressive achievements of Friendsim is how effectively it develops such a large cast. Many trolls initially appear to be defined entirely by exaggerated gimmicks or bizarre personality traits, but conversations often reveal emotional vulnerabilities and hidden insecurities that make them feel surprisingly human despite their alien setting. Some of the strongest routes become unexpectedly touching once the comedy gives way to quieter emotional moments. The game consistently rewards players who invest emotionally in characters that first seem ridiculous or shallow. The world-building is another major strength. Friendsim greatly expands the understanding of Alternia beyond what was originally shown in Homestuck, exploring dangerous social hierarchies, underground clubs, bizarre workplaces, violent traditions, and everyday troll life in surprising detail. Casual conversations constantly reveal new information about how this brutal alien society functions, helping the world feel much larger and more believable. Even when the game becomes chaotic and comedic, the setting itself remains remarkably well-developed. Visually, the game is extremely expressive for a visual novel. Character portraits are colorful, highly stylized, and filled with personality, making every conversation feel lively and animated despite the largely static presentation. Each troll has a unique design that perfectly reflects their dialogue style and behavior, while backgrounds and interface elements reinforce the strange and chaotic atmosphere of the Homestuck universe. The art direction succeeds at modernizing the franchise’s aesthetic while still maintaining its original identity. The soundtrack is excellent as well. Music has always been a defining part of Homestuck’s appeal, and Friendsim continues that tradition with energetic, emotional, and atmospheric tracks that perfectly match the game’s constantly shifting tone. Some songs amplify the absurd humor and chaotic pacing while others support surprisingly emotional scenes with genuine sincerity. Combined with the expressive artwork and strong dialogue, the soundtrack helps create a uniquely memorable atmosphere. Another positive aspect is the game’s accessibility in terms of gameplay structure. Friendsim functions almost entirely as a dialogue-driven visual novel, allowing players to focus on reading and character interaction without complicated mechanics interrupting the experience. Choices occasionally alter scenes or outcomes, but the primary focus remains on storytelling and character development. The short episodic format also makes the game easy to enjoy in smaller sessions. However, Friendsim also struggles with several weaknesses. The most obvious issue is how heavily it depends on familiarity with Homestuck and related material. Although the game introduces new concepts gradually, much of the humor, emotional impact, and world-building assumes players already understand Homestuck’s tone, references, and storytelling style. Newcomers unfamiliar with the franchise may quickly feel overwhelmed by the unusual terminology, typing quirks, complicated social systems, and endless references scattered throughout the dialogue. The quality of individual chapters also varies somewhat. Certain routes contain genuinely excellent emotional storytelling and memorable character development, while others feel overly reliant on inside jokes or chaotic humor without enough narrative depth to support them. Because the cast is so large, some trolls naturally receive far stronger writing than others. The pacing can occasionally become exhausting during longer sessions as well. Dialogue is dense, conversations move rapidly between emotional extremes, and the game constantly bombards players with humor, references, and layered social interactions. Players unfamiliar with Homestuck’s intentionally chaotic storytelling style may eventually find the nonstop dialogue overwhelming. Despite these issues, Hiveswap Friendsim succeeds because of its confidence and personality. The game fully embraces every strange aspect of the Homestuck universe without trying to simplify or soften its identity. Beneath the absurd comedy and chaotic dialogue lies a surprisingly sincere story about friendship, loneliness, emotional connection, and trying to survive inside a hostile and confusing world. For longtime Homestuck fans, Friendsim feels like a massive expansion of a beloved universe filled with memorable side stories and emotionally rich character interactions. For newcomers, the experience may sometimes feel incomprehensible, but even then, the sheer creativity and energy behind the game remain difficult to ignore. Its combination of emotional storytelling, bizarre humor, colorful presentation, and unforgettable characters makes Hiveswap Friendsim one of the most distinctive visual novels currently available on Steam. Rating: 9/10
le falta sexo
pretty fun honestly. characters were charming cant wait to play hiveswap. music was nice and the game was funny sometimes. felt a bit like quantity over quality sometimes with the amount of routes but idk i still enjoyed it
i regret buying ts. do NOT buy this game if you dont want to: 1. feel dirty 2. rip your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ eyes out and make them bleed 3. blow your brains out and MOST OF ALL 4. be dissapointed with your favorite characters if I hadn't bought this as a bundle and had played it in the first two weeks of purchase, I would have happily returned all my money. this game isn't worth any of your cash.
