Of Ash and Steel offers a challenging yet rewarding combat system. You are not a legendary bounty hunter or monster slayer by default. Instead, you must master the mechanics: manage stamina, time your attacks and parries, and determine which combat stances and weapon types suit you best. It takes time and practice, but the more you play, the more both you and Tristan evolve and gain an understanding of what is happening around you.
Learn to stand up for yourself using different weapons, environments, and active skills. Tailor your fighting style to suit you, from the agile rapier wielder to a heavy armour-clad knight, or create something unique!

Immerse yourself in a story full of twists, humor, and discoveries. Step into the shoes of a man who is destined to become much more than just a cartographer. Gain strength, survive, and forge alliances. Prove that even someone who has lost everything can become a significant force that can shape the fate of the whole world.
Talk to locals to learn about their daily lives, and help them with tasks. Watch how people’s opinions of you change as your character grows. Join one of the two major factions and complete its unique storyline to earn exclusive rewards. Your actions and choices will also affect the world and the characters around you.

Of Ash and Steel has no marker system, and quests won't lead you by the hand. Rediscover the joy of exploration and let curiosity be your guide; the world promises rich rewards for those who dare to uncover its secrets.
Listen carefully to what people tell you and pay attention to what is said in the quests to find your way. Read books and notes to learn more about the world. Mark interesting locations on your map, explore the island, and uncover hidden treasures!

I just finished Gothic Remake, an absolute masterpiece of a game, just to find this clunky piece of a game. But wow, after 3 hours (that felt like 30 minutes) I must say it's a loooooot of fun! It has a lot of inspiration from Gothic while still having some fresh ideas. I recommend toggling the option so when you press X (the run button) you don't need to hold it down to run but just toggle between running and walking. It's a lot of fun and I am looking forward playing more. I have much more fun than playing Dying Light The Beast to be honest.

The game has tremendous potential and I truly love the world and atmosphere that was built here. However here are some aspects that are lacking: - Combat feels very floaty and inconsistent. - I got to the end of chapter 2, I am level 12 and the world suddenly got populated with monsters that I can only kill maybe one at a time in packs of 3. - I put loads of points into STR have a relatively high dmg sword, still feels like I am not doing damage. - Some quest objectives like "Night Watch" where you have to guard the Altar in the port district as you are informed during the convo turns out the altar is in the fortress next to the statue where you get to join the order and you can easily fail at objectives that are not clearly communicated. I don't mind vague objectives but at least have a detailed description in the Journal where the conversation is summarised. - The dialogue is good and the story is getting interesting but I can't stand being sent to ends of the map constantly with no option to speed things up apart from carts that you are way to broke to use at this stage, and since you can barely kill anything you'll spend most of your time just sprinting back and forth. Example, I had to find Irvin which required me to go far east on the map. Once I figured out where I need to go it was back the other way to the west, fine I ran all the way, then did objectives with Irvin. He then sent me back to Nerest's hut to talk to him and asked me to tell him what Nerest says. Now at this point the logical conclusion would be that you stick together or he waits nearby as there are many camps he could have just stayed, but no, he goes back to his house again on the far east of the map. I just gave up at this point. - The game likes to waste your time in general with loads of running around example just above. - The main city design ins like a maze, you will constantly get lost or turned around, NPCs just pop int existence to open stores or sell in stalls, even the bystanders just vanish for the night and in the morning just appear from thin air if you walk away from the location you are and walk back in 5 seconds. The city feels very fake due to this. While you are exploring the open world and visit smaller settlements this is not a problem but the main city just feels off. Bearing the above flaws in mind the game truly has potential and it heavily draws inspiration from Gothic. For context I have 25 hours in the game, I tried playing this for the second time, this time I spent around 12 hours with it. I have played gothic remake twice in since it released and if you spend this amount of time in that game you truly feel progression, here it's just barely scratching the surface. I feel like the game would be perfect if it runs out around 40 hours with minor exploration and questing, but it feels like it will overstay it's welcome. Gothic in perspective is around 40 hours to beat and you feel like you are progressing constantly during that time. Also for progression, having loads of basically fetch quests for you to gain levels to be strong enough to push the main quest forward is just bad. I may have not seen enough of the game but the side content I have seen are basically, speak to XYZ to get something done for someone, or go get X thing from Y location. No real mini stories or anything to write home about. I will for the time being give the game a thumbs down as I can't give it a mixed review and I will revisit this game in a few months and updates time. P.S. Kudos to the devs, 1.08 version is a night and day difference from release but there is still a long way to go. I would say the game is worth picking up if on offer as the devs are truly shaping it to it's fullest potential.
After several hours, it become an interesting game. But the question is why it take so long? 1) It is a game, so why not to design a lot of low level enemy for user to play and learn? and to meet several low level enemies is also exciting for a high level player. 2) It is a game, we don't want to spend a lot of time to find where is NPC and what we are looking for. Maybe somebody like to be suffered in a messy box, but please at least give us a chance to enable a shining hint in the map or point of view. 3) It is a game. We people like to see beautiful or handsome face with strong or sexy 3D model. Shining armor and cool weapon is also welcome.
