About

45+ hours of main story, packed with dialogue, well-developed characters, books, and side quests.
Two major factions to choose from — each with its own unique storyline, quests, and exclusive rewards.
Combat system features three distinct battle stances, multiple weapon types, and active skills.
A vibrant, open-world island with diverse biomes to explore.
A wide range of professions to master, including fishing, hunting, blacksmithing (with the ability to craft your own one-of-a-kind sword), alchemy, and more.

Of Ash and Steel offers a challenging yet rewarding combat system. You are not a legendary bounty hunter or monster slayer by default. Instead, you must master the mechanics: manage stamina, time your attacks and parries, and determine which combat stances and weapon types suit you best. It takes time and practice, but the more you play, the more both you and Tristan evolve and gain an understanding of what is happening around you.
Learn to stand up for yourself using different weapons, environments, and active skills. Tailor your fighting style to suit you, from the agile rapier wielder to a heavy armour-clad knight, or create something unique!

Immerse yourself in a story full of twists, humor, and discoveries. Step into the shoes of a man who is destined to become much more than just a cartographer. Gain strength, survive, and forge alliances. Prove that even someone who has lost everything can become a significant force that can shape the fate of the whole world.
Talk to locals to learn about their daily lives, and help them with tasks. Watch how people’s opinions of you change as your character grows. Join one of the two major factions and complete its unique storyline to earn exclusive rewards. Your actions and choices will also affect the world and the characters around you.

Of Ash and Steel has no marker system, and quests won't lead you by the hand. Rediscover the joy of exploration and let curiosity be your guide; the world promises rich rewards for those who dare to uncover its secrets.
Listen carefully to what people tell you and pay attention to what is said in the quests to find your way. Read books and notes to learn more about the world. Mark interesting locations on your map, explore the island, and uncover hidden treasures!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is the review you are looking for, don't bother with all of the negative senseless ones. This is a GREAT game. Don't get me wrong, there are minor bugs, MINOR, that may affect gameplay but the dev team is addressing and resolving them at very acceptable speed. This is, in my opinion, a love letter to the old school RPG like the Gothic saga. It is a game that does not take you by hand in the slightest. It forces you to slow down, explore, die a lot, save constantly and LEARN how to beat it. Yes you can cheese things, yes you may find yourself running some slow slightly boring quests every now and then to level up and yes it is very complex to navigate. You are playing as a stranger on a new land. Of course you know nothing of it!! And you are a civilian, not a soldier or a hero! Of ash and steel poses a challenge for players that are willing to immerse themselves in a whole new world. Combat is relatively simple, but rewarding while unforgiving, the mini games are not the best, but are also definitely not a game changing aspect. The "general" voice lines you feel from npcs are repetitive and you get stuck on quests very easily since they are not described in too much details. Those are the negative aspects. You can overcome all of those with patience, curiosity and a bit of good memory! You can also just google for help if you get stuck! There is nothing wrong in that, this is the reason why there is a community. If you are an rpg lover that likes progressions, challenges and it's not afraid of taking minor risks at some bugs or glitches for the sake of a VERY rewarding game, give this game a shot! I'm playing on the hardest difficulties and I'm having a blast, even though my wife laughs at me a little every time I die! ^^
I rather enjoy difficult games from exploration to being knocked on my backside as a reminder that im still a weak and useless scrub. This game will have you pull on your hair with how easily you get lost or butchered by a tough enemy you are just not strong enough to deal with yet. Then there is the fact you just get straight up lost because the directions are terrible so i had to basically memorize the dang map. Despite all of this my only real complaint is the immersion breaking with how the npcs dialog do not match the subtitles or straight up skips some of the dialog.
ДА я видел харю начальника стражи. Скоро в забор не пролезет!!!
This game is great and surprisingly big. I keep discovering new areas I haven’t been to yet, with puzzles that actually make you think. I’m 40 hours in and haven’t even started Act 2, though you could definitely start Act 2 much sooner. Also, I don’t get why people complain about the city—it wasn’t that hard to memorize the layout. You can enable the map when you start a new game, but I wanted to play it the way the developers intended and unlock the map later in the game. I have encountered two annoying bugs: enemies getting stuck in terrain, and getting stuck in an action like sleeping, where I can’t even press ESC—meaning I have to restart and hope I saved within the last 10 minutes. Other than that, the game runs great for me. I strongly recommend this game if you like Gothic or Risen.
When I played the demo I was sceptical - I had FPS drops and stutters, so I did not buy on release. Now I had to scratch my post Gothic Remake itch and remembered about Of Ash and Steel. I'm still in chapter 1 and I'm enjoying almost every second of it. The game is rewarding in every aspect. Exploration is great, quest are entertaining and I fell in love in combat. I recommend it to every fan of Piranha Bytes games. You're gonna feel right at home in Grayshaft.
Of Ash & Steel genuinely surprised me, above all with its length and scope. I expected a solid RPG inspired by classics such as Gothic, but I did not expect it to contain this much content. It is the kind of game where, even after many hours, you still feel like you are discovering something new. New locations, quests, and story developments keep changing the way you see the entire adventure. The high difficulty level was another surprise. The beginning can be genuinely unforgiving: enemies often feel far too strong for such an early stage of the game, and fights can end much faster than expected. At times, this was frustrating, especially when a seemingly ordinary opponent was able to defeat me again and again. However, as I continued playing, I started to understand that this was most likely intentional. Greyshaft is not meant to be a world where you begin as a powerful hero capable of defeating everyone. It is hostile, harsh, and dangerous, and the player has to slowly learn how to survive in it. Because of that, character progression feels genuinely rewarding. My biggest issue is with the beginning of the story. Honestly, if I had judged the game only by its opening, I might not have continued playing. Something is missing there: a stronger sense of momentum, a memorable event, or a clearer reason to immediately care about what is happening. The opening feels strange and somewhat too slow, and it does not properly show what the game eventually becomes. That is a shame, because later on, Of Ash & Steel can be surprisingly ambitious and engaging. I think the developers should consider improving the first few hours, so that players can see the scale of the world, its dangers, and the potential of the story much earlier. One of the game’s greatest strengths is how it is willing to take major narrative detours and change its structure. The mining and prison sections were especially memorable for me. They were a very pleasant surprise because they felt distinctly different from the earlier parts of the game and gave the experience much more variety. These moments prevent the game from becoming repetitive and make you wonder what could happen next. You never feel entirely sure what to expect several hours later, and that unpredictability adds a lot to the overall adventure. It is also disappointing that, after completing the main story, there is no option to freely return to the city and finish all remaining side quests. A post-game free-roam mode would have been a great addition, allowing players to complete every quest, discover missed secrets, and finish the game at 100%. I hope this is something the developers consider adding in a future update or including in a possible sequel. Despite these issues, Of Ash & Steel won me over, and I can honestly say that I am now a fan of the game. It is a long, demanding, and sometimes uneven RPG, but its ambition, harsh atmosphere, and surprising story shifts make it highly rewarding. I only wish the developers had delayed the release a little longer and launched the game in the condition it reached after patch 1.8. If it had released in that form from the beginning, I believe it would have gained many more fans and become much more popular. Of Ash & Steel is not a perfect game, but it is a game with real character. It requires patience, it does not always present its strongest qualities well at the start, and its difficulty can occasionally become frustrating. But if you give it a chance, it offers a long, challenging, and unpredictable journey through a world that truly feels hostile, dangerous, and worth exploring.
