This game is a brand-new entry in the OCTOPATH TRAVELER series, the first installment of which was initially released in 2018 and sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
Modeled estimate, not a reported figure. How we estimate →
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 8.57/day in the week to Sep 19 → 10.4/day in the week after.

Matched by title — a reused name can pair the wrong games. * is a critic aggregate. Prices and positions are each store's United States storefront; Epic charts worldwide. Audience and Score too, except Steam's, which is worldwide.

good
High quality and the only good RPG game of this "type" that i've tried. Just started playing and i can say that i enjoy the characters, stories, and gameplay too. 10/10

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 30: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 9.14/day in the week to Jul 30 → 18.86/day in the week after.
Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 17 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,502 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
This is a very well-rounded JRPG that performs admirably in every aspect. I do recommend this title. However, there are also frustrating design choices present in this game that players should be aware of beforehand. These could be a deal breaker for many.

Pros

A freely explorable world
This game is structured relatively openly, almost like an open world, which means it allows the player to explore largely out of curiosity. Players are only vaguely restricted by the recommended levels of each area, which implies they have great freedom to determine their own pacing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3722794122
HD-2D art style
The Octopath series is the pioneer when it comes to this visual approach, which is becoming increasingly prominent these days. Developers use modern technology to better present the vintage look of JRPGs from previous generations. Their attempts to rejuvenate a former legacy with modern presentation are admirable, and I personally find this aesthetic appealing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3722794557
Combat system
The combat system is not revolutionary, yet it is definitely above average. The BP mechanic introduces an extra resource management layer that adds challenge and tests players' turn planning ability without overdoing it or making the system feel too demanding. There are different skills for the starting jobs and the hidden jobs. Most of these skills are varied and powerful because of their mechanics, not just because of their raw damage. Mixing and matching skills from different jobs is extremely satisfying. What makes the situation even better is that this game allows characters to take secondary jobs, which multiplies the skill combinations and makes exploring the synergy of different abilities generally very fun and rewarding.
Mehs

Mediocre story
The story of this game is generic. It is serviceable, nothing more. To be honest, the writing for some characters is below average, but overall it is okay.
Repetitive music
The music generally suits the moments, yet many of the tracks are heavily reused, which makes an epic string track feel like the background music of yet another generic miniboss. The composition is relatively lackluster ; the texture of the music in this game is boring, most layers of sound are basically playing the same rhythm with different instruments, and the harmonic layers are just repeating uninteresting and generic harmonies. Many tracks sound grandly orchestrated, but turn monotonously quickly.
Cons

Trash mobs and overly frequent encounters
The enemies engage the player in random battles, which is already frustrating. To make matters worse, they are randomly assorted together, and the minion fights are just a bunch of trash mobs forcefully fed to the player. The worst part is that fights occur extremely frequently, even with the scholar's passive skill, Evasive Maneuvers, turned on. It is so nerve-wracking that the exploration pace gets disrupted every ten seconds. It is unbearable for a game that purposefully wastes players' time.
Boring fetch quests and obscure side quests
The side quests in this game are mostly fetch quests, and to be honest, I think it would be good for the industry if there were no more fetch quests. Developers are not obligated to fill the world with 200 tasks if the budget does not allow uniquely designed quests; just do not do it. Less is more. Worse still, the conditions for quest completion are often extremely obscure, which forces players to look up external guides just to finish yet another simple errand.
Unskippable credits
The end credits are not skippable, and honestly that is absurd. Some say it is good manners to acknowledge the effort of the developers and other contributors. I agree with that, but I do not want to sit through it; I just want to move on to other things quickly after beating the title. I hate that the developers force-feed the end credits to the players, which feels like pure arrogance.
Overall
Overall, it is a good game. Nothing really stands out as exceptional, but nothing is really abysmal either. I think it is a great game for JRPG fans and also a potentially good starting point for different kinds of gamers who want to try getting into JRPGs. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3735647089
For more reviews similar to this one, feel free to check out my curator page RPGs ENJOIYERS.
