Ocelot Sunrise only has its artstyle going for it as a survivor likes. Too many directional weapons makes the game feel the same every run because I am avoiding them like the plague. The only ones I take go side to side or shoot behind me. Enemies ball up around ranged units so you need something that can penetrate to hit them. Imo this is like the worst way to add difficulty, since the only time I get hit is by ranged units I can't get to. The first character's dash and passive mine are amazing, but their equipment is awful. They even nerfed it from the demo, when the only time I used it in the demo was to escape a massive ball and still die affterwards. The second character's dash is useless, but their equipment is another gun slot with CDR, temporary HP recovery (shield), movmeent speed, and etc. They like to overload one part of the kit instead of making it a cohesive whole. The second level has poor enemy design, and the game only current has 2 levels. They gave ranged units that take out half your HP the most HP on that level, spawn multiple of then, and they are typically having 15 layers of enemies around them in a ball making it almost impossible to hit them. How do you solve this? Killing the baby units before they become this version, which spawn off screen, and you can't track down since you are already busy I don't know surviving maybe. I have never seen a more poorly implemented ranged unit. Meta progression is god awful. If you don't complete a level you can't get 1-2 levels of it. Revives are locked behind an asinine amount, you get 5 currency per pick up and meta upgrades can be 2k-3k, and on top of that weapon unlocks also require currency. On top of this, you get achievements for getting 500 kills with weapons... that give you nothing. I have no idea why they thought you'd want 500 kills with a weapon. I'm currently leaving most locked because I don't want more awful directional weapons in my pool. I don't know if I'll come back to this since the direction of the game already isn't fun.
A very interesting bullet hell game; I especially liked the space setting and the dash system. I enjoyed both initial maps and various combinations of weapons and abilities to break the game. I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves and adds new weapons and abilities, which, to me, is crucial in this type of game. Highlighting the elites is crucial; killing them to obtain special abilities is important, but it's challenging with the surrounding horde, which forces you to plan your positioning carefully.
A bullet hell with a space setting. Each planet has its own biome (I loved the frozen one), which results in unique mobs and bosses. The dash mechanic is really interesting and, combined with the randomized upgrades and unlockable weapons and abilities, you are looking at hours of gameplay, each run being completely different from any previous run. The game runs super smoothly even when the screen is filled with enemies, and I haven't encountered any bugs or issues. The art style is beautiful and polished, UI elements are clean, and music and sound effects are also excellent and give feedback every time the player takes an action. Definitely worth picking up! Can't wait for future updates to see what hordes of enemies hide behind the other planets.
Really disappointing that this was abandoned. Is a lot of fun, and had a lot of potential, felt new and fresh in a genre that can be the same exact cookie cutter thing on repeat(many as good games, just the same), but like always, a simple demo made that turned out to be great, so they did the cash grab Early Access BS that Steam readily allows. I am a big supporter of EA, but not like this :(
I do enjoy the game so far. Just a heads up it does not have full controller support yet. That is planned though. I know I prefer using controller for survivors games. You might want to wait for the support to get added if you prefer controller.
It's really not that fun. There are way better games of this genre. Most of the weapons felt useless and are there for the sake of "variety" and if you want an optimal build, those won't usually be chosen. The controls felt really clunky and things move really slow. Save your $.
Fun to play, addicting, beautiful art style.
Had so much fun so far! The game is smooth to play, those new mechanics into bullet-hell survivor game was amazing and its pretty challenging. Worth to give it a shot! Looking forward to the release.
Ocelot Sunrise just released into Early Access! It's definitely one of the better survivors-likes out there, and I'd say probably the best looking. Features fresh sci fi lore, unusual monsters, lots of different worlds, tons of mini-bosses. Ocelot Sunrise is a slick, modern take on the survivors-like genre. It looks & sounds great, animations and movements are really smooth, excellent upgrade/challenge curve. Polished, fun & addictive!
