About
A long time has passed since the White City was washed from the face of Gaia – and the once magnificent Kingdom of Arcadia was shattered into hundreds of islands of the Uncharted Sea.
Four adventurers have set on a journey to restore the world to its former glory. Following rumors and prophecies, they have found a way into a mythical underground complex, Chronos Dungeon.
Deep down, hidden somewhere, lies the Paradigm Hourglass, an object powerful enough to alter history. Will you find the route to the bottom floor, and what challenges await you inside Chronos Dungeon?

A great Dungeon Crawler game that can be played in single player or (local) co-op. Unlocking all the achievements requires 1 playthrough on the hard difficulty and 5 playthroughs in total. I have had the other two games on my wishlist for a long time, but never played them. This review is from the perspective of someone new to the series and won't be compared to earlier titles. I played the game in single-player mode, so I'm not familiar with how multiplayer exactly works and performs. Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon is a great dungeon crawler where floors are short, so you feel like you're making progress even if you are only able to play for a little bit. The story is relatively thin, but I didn't mind that as I just enjoyed leveling up my character(s) and killing the enemies. You are trying to save your home world, and to do that, you need to find the Paradigm Hourglass that should be somewhere in this dungeon. However, time does a weird thing while being in the dungeon. The game has four worlds in total. The first world has six floors and then a boss fight, the second world has eight floors and then a boss fight, and so on and so on. A lot of things are random in this game. Like the floor layout, the enemies, and even your skill tree. When playing a new game, they might all be different. There are four characters, and you can play as any of them and switch during the run. They only level up when they are the ones killing enemies. However, you don't need them all on max level. In my hard mode run, I had two characters on max level and a third close to that, and in that mode, I did die a lot more and switched characters more often. However, it was also my first playthrough, so perhaps with more practice, I wouldn't have to switch characters as often because one would die. In my four playthroughs on easy mode, I only leveled up my favorite character (the huntress) and haven't used the others. When starting a new game, you can decide on a specific attribute for each class. For example, if you choose Holy for a character, it will slowly heal over time, or if you choose Foolish, traps won't hurt your character. I love the one where you can ignore traps or the one where you do more damage. The healing over time felt slow, and most of the time, you'll find food items within the dungeon before you can even completely heal. However, being able to change things up and having a different skill tree for each character means that the runs feel distinct from one another. Another thing I found very interesting is the danger level; this is a statistic that increases slightly every time you descend a floor level. But it goes faster up if you skip enemies. You can lower it by paying money at the Golden Goddess statue and by finding big coins inside crates and vases. This level seems to determine how beefy the enemies are. The lower the danger level, the easier they are to kill. I'm unsure if it also determines the number of enemies on a floor; I don't think that number influences this. Achievements in Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon unlock after closing the game. so you might want to close the game from time to time to check out which achievements you already unlocked. The game saves when you enter a new floor, so as long as you just entered a new floor, no progress is lost. To unlock all the achievements, you have to play five times through the story. (Playing 5 times the last world doesn't work). Gladly, the game is short, especially when playing on the easy difficulty. My last few playthroughs were only a little over 2 hours when ignoring all chests. Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon also has an achievement for using every special item, and for 100% the game. In the playthrough, you go for the 100% I also recommend going for the achievement of using all the special items, and just use them the moment you find one. As this playthrough will be a little bit longer, it gives you the chance to find them all. For a save with 100% you need to find all the treasures, which are hidden in purple chests. At the beginning of a floor, if there is a purple chest, the game will show you that and show you which direction you can find it. You can't have any doubles, so this is just a case of finding 50 purple chests within one playthrough. All the other achievements you will likely unlock without even trying to get them, but maybe check the ones you're missing for the 4th or 5th playthrough, so if you miss something, you can make sure to get them during those last runs. I give Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon 4 out of 5 stars. [code]Do you enjoy games that don't have missable achievements? You pick a character but are forced to play as them all because they level up individually and each have individual HP. EXP is only earned when using the character. Combat is clunky. Would be better with a light lock on system. No keyboard or controller rebinding options. No online multiplayer is a big missed opportunity,
Even though this game has Mixed reviews I really enjoyed playing through this one. Even though this game only has Local Co-Op, feels like this should have Online Co-Op for even more enjoyment with friends or other random players.
Firstly the style of this game is great. Especially the voice over. Super nostalgic feeling from this. Reminds me of the old dungeons and dragons cartoons back in the day. The pixel graphics style is really nice as well. This game really shines best during couch coop. I can see it being fun solo as well but playing with someone is definitely where this works best.
A fun couch co-op game! We're not terribly far, but we've had fun playing it so far. The pixel art is fantastic and paired with the music it creates a fun little atmosphere. It's a pretty straight forward dungeon crawler, so if you're looking for a super in-depth RPG experience, this isn't it. But what it is are a series of randomized levels and challenges, and is just a fun, simple game to enjoy either solo or with some friends. It's not a very difficult of a game, at least on normal with two people, so it's pretty easy to get into.
This game follows a fairly generic formula, and ends up being quite unmemorable. I played with friends over remote play and it was a sufferable experience for both the host and one of the players who lived farther away. Although the latter is expected, the input lag for the host was reaching 1-2 seconds at times. It would have been much better if the game provided online support. Regarding the game, there was a story and interactable objects/npcs, but they were completely irrelevant, as we skipped all of those (the input lag and the fact that one player can interact with the dialogue started by another player made it quite hard to read anything when people are trying to find the fun in the game). The game basically consists of entering a dungeon, going a couple of floors until you reach the boss, and then you go back to the town. The town didn't have anything meaningful to do. You find the special weapons, buy items (which you likely won't, because they are not much helpful, and you will find items in the dungeon easily anyway), or gamble to have a low chance of getting an item (again, not worth it). The dungeon has a risk system, where it theoretically gets harder the higher it goes. I say theoretically because we played on hard, and we did not care about the risk at all. The enemies pop up out of the ceiling constantly, you get rid of them, get some xp (which is based on hits - i.e., it is not shared), find the purple chest, and go down the stairs. Rinse and repeat until you reach the dungeon's boss. The boss was fairly easy, and would take us a couple of seconds. There are no puzzles to solve, so any correlation with zelda is a wishfully farfetched. When you get experience, your character may level up. There is a skill tree, but for some characters the tree feels more linear than others (e.g., the knight starts linearly). Getting experience after characters earn new skills can get quite difficult - the hit-based experience system becomes fairly unbalanced, and some characters will struggle to hit anything before the others eliminate enemies (e.g., the huntress has high range and damage, so she can easily clear everything instantly). We would often not attack, so that the lower leveled character could do something. Finally, there are fairly inconvenient bugs. Initially we would frantically press buttons and even restart the game to get some characters to resume moving, but eventually we embraced the bugs and started going out of bounds for fun. By the way, if your character gets stuck and you are not player one, you can hold triangle on the controller to leave the match and return quickly. Overall, the experience was quite unremarkable, although we did have some fun with the bugs. It is a quick (~3h) and pretty game, but there is no overall design or proper planning. Calling it a dungeon crawler is a stretch, and it definitely feels more like a hack and slash than anything else.
What is this? the movement and fighting system is clunky.. level design is boring af and you play as party and switch between 4 players and solo leveling them?? not all at same time.. so gap of level and xp for the end. you cant really move and fight at sametime.. this gameplay makes 0 fun. i loved the ocean horn games but THIS is not good.
