nothing & nowhere seemed like a name suitable for a dark, melancholy novel. And I have suffered a lot reading some ebi-hime's VNs before, so it felt like inevitability:D But this time it turned out to be quite the opposite, so it was a pleasant surprise:) It's a short, atmospheric, healing story. Though frankly speaking I'm a tad disappointed because all those dark, eerie theories I had while reading the previous part (Lynne, a free novel, recommended to play first) were totally wrong:) But, of course, for the poor girl it's so much better this way. She definitely deserved this happier outcome. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3416575841 Praises: +Well-written as usual. My main pleasure remains:) ~45,000 words and 18 were new for me, I'm grateful for this educational aspect. +Visuals are just perfect for the story! Those backgrounds when they shared their past were so atmospheric, I enjoyed them a lot! <3 +Characters are appealing!♥ Even if I sometimes totally disagreed with them I could still sympathize with them. +Notes is a wonderful feature I keep enjoying & appreciating in every novel. +low price https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3430082124 Complaints: --four save slots T_T even for a kinetic novel is too little. --it's not like I have any right to complain about it, I understand that was the plot of the story BUT all those details I utterly enjoyed (isolated, peaceful life in an old house with cats and books) were actually portrayed as something wrong:) something you should fix/get rid of/improve in your life, sigh. I know that's how it was for the chars and their life stories but it still felt like I was also forced to accept my vision and ideals need to be changed T_T --some typos I easily recommend this atmospheric, pretty novel with surprisingly positive, hopeful message :)

[th]More thoughts about the game in a Reading Nook [/th]

the arts are awesome, but the writing feels amateur. couldn't handle it all the way through and just skiped to see what happens. the story could be much shorter and as much better without pretencious overdramatic describings. we're all humans with feelings, i get it, go on, don't chew every little detail up for a reader
nothing & nowhere is a short visual novel which tells us the story of Cora and Lynn. You may know Lynn, if you've read the novel Lynne — it's dark and kind of depressive. This novel, though, is very different in it's mood. It is relaxing and feel-good. It doesn't have much events and mostly consists of description of everyday life, but I found that kind of nice, even though I rarely like such things. And I was invested, until the ending had happened. I felt that it was abrupt and anticlimactic.
Cora is one of the main characters here and she just... disappears. (I'm trying not to spoil everything, so let's use this word.) Why wasn't she even mentioned in the epilogue? I get that Lynn is more important in this story but... It seemed that Cora and Lynn had a nice and potentially deep friendship, and it feels so strange. Maybe it's just me. I don't know.
Anyway, the story ends on a nice note, and it was interesting to see how two novels about the same character are so much different. I liked that nothing & nowhere gave us a final for Lynne, even though it's a bit open. I definitely recommend it to those who liked Lynne and generally to those who likes simple visual novels. I was surprised to see people in the reviews complaining that the story was too simple and didn't have any choices. Like... yeah? That's kinda the point? It wouldn't be a surprise for you if you've read the description before buying the novel. So yeah, if you're a fan of short and simple stories, you might like this one. Also I probably recommend you reading Lynne beforehand (it's free). That way you'll get acquainted with the author's style and then you will definitely know whether you want to read more of her stories.
nothing & nowhere is a very good visual novel game with a beautiful story. The graphics are nice and the soundtrack is relaxing... The ebi-hime games are really great!!! I highly recommend it. 💗
Lynne was a punch to the gut; this one merely makes one wish they were in a different room.
„Nothing & nowhere“ is a novel, that i was eyeing for a longer time. I wanted to read it, but I always ended up with something else. I am glad, that I finally was able to do it. This VN is something, that surprised me in many ways. The ambience, that this story create with music, visuals and plot is something special. It simply feels right and sucks you in into the world that Ebi created. The story is about a woman, who on her early morning beach walk encounter a runaway girl and invite her to her home to help her. The plot of the VN is wonderfully done. It underlines the characters and helps reader quickly build connection with them. They feel real and act like actual people would. The relation and dynamic between our heroines is really enjoyable and fun to witness. Even with quite short length of the story (45k words), we are able to get enough exposition to care about the characters and feel touched, by unravelling events. It also encourage the reader, to self reflect and take in the lesson, that the VN is trying to teach us. The art style is something, that I didn’t see yet from this author. It’s climatic and well fitted into the story. Characters are expressive and unique. The backgrounds are lovely and well done. Those with other parts of the novel create unique mood. Game also offer custom made soundtrack, that is professionally done. Its task is, to amplify the mood and events of the story and let me tell you, that it is doing so flawlessly. The tracks create the ambience, that this story deserves. Music of this, game really catch the spirit and charm, that other parts of this VN create. Rating this piece of art is hard, because it a piece that I struggle to describe with words, not to mention giving it just a simple number. It feels disrespectful to the author, however that is the format of a review, that I created and now need to live with. This novel is something, that you should experience yourself, because simple review won’t be able to catch its novelty. (At least I can’t do it). I believe that R:92/100 is fair grade.
Nothing & Nowhere is occasionally a decent slice of life story, but it lacks finesse when it comes time to resolve its conflict. Writer Cora discovers a young, rained-on girl (who is the real protagonist) outside her home. The girl has clearly run away from home, so Cora lets her stay until she works up the courage to return. At first, the girl is tight-lipped about her circumstances, but slowly, as she battles her inner demons, she opens up to Cora. The early, slice of life moments in Nothing & Nowhere are well written. The two characters have an interesting dynamic, with the girl barely saying anything lest she reveal something personal, and Cora dominating the conversation trying to make that happen. They share some cute moments together as their relationship grows. However, the second half of the story feels rushed and lacks subtly. First, Cora drops her back story in a lengthy exposition dump. Very Minor Spoilers:
Then, they go on day trip, and the girl sees two siblings playing and more or less plainly thinks (paraphrasing), "Wow, I guess family is important, after all, huh. Maybe I shouldn't have run away."
A few more of these plainly stated revelations later, and the girl opens up about her back story, and then all is right in the world. Honestly, I can see how Nothing & Nowhere would be an appealing story for some. It seems like a story that would almost work better as a movie, in which the girl's character development is subtext—implicit rather than explicit. There are the bones of a good, coming-of-age drama here, I just don't think it works that well in text. 5/10
Retconned the ending of Lynne, and I was constantly waiting for a nice turn to spice it up. That turn never occurs. It's just a vapid tale with a vapid ending. I hate to say it, but simply read Lynne and then skip this one entirely. It has far more going for it than this one does, in every measure.
