6/10 Basic nonogram with an animal theme. What is it: A nonogram/picross game, single color, in which every level is an animal. This is a classic game, not much to describe about it. Is it good? It works well enough, but could be improved. The levels are OK, with unique solutions and decent images. They go from 3x3 to 25x25, most of them at 16x16. Just 58 levels, with no random generator or daily levels, and there’s no way to reset all progress. Classic mouse controls, left click to paint, right click to mark as uncolored. Click and drag to paint consecutive cells in a row or column, which displays a count of the number of cells you painted. There’s also middle click and drag to just measure, which is a useful feature. It lacks support for clicking on a completed colum/row header to mark every remaining cell with X. Undo and restart are available, and progress is saved for every level, although there’s no indication in the level select screen which levels are in progress. It lacks any keyboard or controller input, not even Esc to bring up the menu. How hard is it: Mostly easy, other than having some big levels, I rarely had to search too long for the next cell I can mark. How long is it: 58 levels in 5 chapters, 3-6 hours. All levels in a chapter are unlocked, and the next chapter unlocks before all levels are solved. Level design: Good, unique solutions and decent images, although sometimes they have a few empty rows or columns, which would be OK if they didn’t also have non-square grids, why not make those levels shorter/narrower? Quality: OK, but could be improved. Undo, in-progress level saving, reset from the menu. Video and audio settings. White mode only. Cloud saving and progress achievements. Sometimes when dragging it would behave wrongly, randomly turning from Paint to Unpaint or to Measure. Worth the price: Yes. Most positive aspect for me: Measuring tool. Most negative aspect for me: No keyboard support. What would make it better: Keyboard/controller support. Dark mode. Click on a completed row/header to mark every remaining cell with X. Reset all progress. Also consider: Nonozle, a better nonogram in all the ways. Cross Pixels, harder levels and better QoL. A great game, and a good one for beginners because there are a lot of easy to medium size puzzles. But don't worry you hardcore nonogram players, there are some large ones as well. I'd say it has a nice balance of easy to hard. The background music is pleasant to listen to and doesn't distract. For those who have never played a nonogram/pixzel/griddler/whatever-they-are-calling-them-these-days puzzle I'll explain briefly. You are given a grid with numbers on the top and left side. Those numbers refer to how many of the squares in that row or column should be marked (the game uses a purplish-blue to indicate that). If the grid is 5 x 5 and one of the numbers is a 5 then you know that you can color in all the squares in that row or column. Those are the easy ones. The rest you have to use logic to figure things out. If there are two numbers on the top or side that means threre are two areas of that row/column that need to be marked, with a space between them. For instance, in a 5 x 5 grid there is on the side this: "1 3". Using logic and remebering the rule that each line of colored in squares has to have a space between it and another line, then the solution is to color the first square, right click on the mouse to get a space marker, then color in the remaining 3 squares. 1+1 spacer+ 3= 5. You have to do some counting in this game. Once everything is filled in, the grid transforms into a color picture of an animal. It's amazing how they take one solid color seemingly scattered about the grid and turn it into a multi-color picture. The easy puzzles are sometimes a stretch to see what it's supposed to be because the pixels are so large (consider each square in the grid a pixel). Once you get to larger puzzles more details emerge in the finished picture. The larger the grid the more pixels there are to work with to make a picture. I highly recommend this game, especially for newbies. But even those of us veteran puzzlers can play the larger grids. I picked it up on sale but I'd say even at normal price it's worth it. 58 levels going up to a grid size 25 x 25.
Standard animal themed nonogram game with over 55 puzzles. When you solve then, you are shown a colored version which is nice. Unfortunately, it lacks anything to really make it stand out. While it does have an undo, reset, and marking, it lacks features that other nonogram game make standard. This is not an issue on smaller puzzles, but the last several are made more annoying to check potential mistakes. All achievements presumably work though, I have a few puzzles left to confirm. It should take you about 10 hours. Nonogram Animals is a delightful and engaging puzzle game that puts a charming twist on the classic nonogram formula. With its adorable animal-themed puzzles and user-friendly features, the game offers a relaxing and enjoyable experience for both seasoned nonogram fans and newcomers to the genre. Unlike traditional nonograms, this game introduces grids with varying cell counts, keeping players on their toes as they solve each puzzle. Additionally, the automatic save feature, undo option and helpful space counter make the gameplay smooth and stress-free, while the lack of penalties for mistakes encourages experimentation and learning. Nonogram Animals is a perfect choice for anyone seeking a fun and light-hearted puzzle game that doesn't take itself too seriously. With its cute aesthetics and satisfying gameplay, it's sure to bring a smile to your face as you uncover each adorable animal hidden within the grids. A challenging nonogram/picross puzzle game. The game is more difficult than other monogram puzzle games as it will not tell you when you make a mistake. No missable achievements and takes around 9 hours to complete. Approximate amount of time to 100%: ~9 hours Estimated achievement difficulty: 4/10 Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1 Is there a good guide available: You don't need a guide Multiplayer achievements: No Missable achievements: No Grinding Achievements: No DLC-Only achievements: No Speedrun achievements: No Time-gated achievements: No RNG-achievements: No Does difficulty affect achievements: No Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No Nonogram Animals is a great nonogram/picross puzzle game that feels closer to a real-life puzzle book without the annoying tasks of coloring in the blocks. This game will not tell you when you make a mistake, but will help you with highlighting which numbers you have done and which not. A feature that I loved a lot is that is shows you how many blocks you're coloring in when selecting multiple blocks. I don't recommend this as your first monogram game but it is lovely if you already know how the puzzles work and are looking for a way to spend some time puzzling. From the classic kind of puzzles like sudoku or crossword puzzles, the picross/nanogram puzzles are by far my favorite. I prefer them digitally as coloring those blocks always looks better than when I do it in a real-life puzzle book. Nonogram Animals has no missable achievements as you will unlock them all by just completing all the puzzles. I give Nonogram Animals 4 out of 5 stars. Tickles my brain just right. Wish there were more levels.
Seems identical to Cupid Nonogram, with different levels that increase in difficulty. I'm very happy with this for the low price (2.50 pounds), and would recommend, especially given there are not many nonogram games that function on steam. <3 If it's not broke, give us more levels. (!0 hours of my playtime is from afk, its about 10 hours long for me)
The Good: * You can measure by holding down any mouse button, including the middle mouse button, and dragging. The middle mouse button puts nothing on the board, and changes none of your existing marks. The Bad: * Music crackles with static. * There is no way to mark tiles, just fill-in and X-out. * The grid does not have the thicker lines every five squares but in differing distances, which makes visually following a puzzle even more difficult. * You are locked out of all of the larger puzzles at the start. * The puzzles available are laughably simple, which is sort of good because you have none of the tools required to solve interesting puzzles. The Ugly: * Returning for refund after less than an hour because the game was a just too frustrating implementation to keep playing.
