while i do give most games a chance and can see effort went into the game, sometimes the use of free assets from paragon make for sketchy games. while this one is infact a vampire survivors style game, it has several problems, 1 of the characters has like 3 variants, the red storm forces you to stay in a small area every 4 or 5 minutes, the objectives are over 6 minutes away from starting point and they want you to go to them then try and make another 8 or 9 minute walk to reach the next one to complete it all while its a 10 minute round and the red storm stops you from getting to them anyway. hit detection is rather buggy at the moment as you sometimes take damage from unknown sources or enemies not even near you, while buildings can be used to just sit in one spot the whole game as a choke point. And lastly most of the characters can shoot but only one of them is designed with twin stick shooting controls which makes the others unable to shoot properly (if you stop to aim and shoot you get hit). The game interested me at first but its just to my liking sorry.
*This review based on Keyboard play, NOT with a controller as suggested and solo play only* An enjoyable Bullet-Hell game that is familiar enough for fans of the genre, but with enough unique content to make it stand out. There are multiple characters to be unlocked and the same for maps. The characters are unlocked by earning gold in-game, and can be unlocked in any order as long as you can afford them at the time. There are conditions to be met to unlock the new maps; they aren't accessed through the gold. There are quests within the runs (that are optional, you can just battle the timer per level as well), an eclectic array of enemies (including dinosaurs!), buildings that can be entered, hidden portals to other maps, some unique movement options, and rock-solid graphics with glitch-free game-play. At first, I was put off (big-time) by the suggestion of needing a controller. I'm a big fan of WRF Studios, and that felt like an alienation. In playing it with my keyboard, though, I see no difference from the other bullet-hell games that I play (which is a decent amount of them). If you're used to auto-battlers or bullet-hell games on a keyboard, you won't miss a controller one bit! I've also only experienced the solo play version. I can see multi-player having entirely new levels of strategy consideration, I just haven't looked into it yet. Things I'd like to see: A zoom function. For me, it's focused in just a bit too much, and being able to pull back a bit to see more of the incoming hordes would be quite useful An auto-shoot option that cold be toggled. Other than the healer, I just hold down the fire button to keep shooting. It would be less finger-cramping if I could tick a box that would do that for me. Things I dislike: Passing through certain buildings or forested areas is visually difficult to work through, despite the bubble of enhanced viewing around your character as you go in/through. It helps, but it's still kind of a visual clutter that impairs game-play a tiny bit. All in all, another winner from WRF Studios!
I don't want to grind gold to unlock the other characters. I don't like the starting character choice. I won't play it. I returned the product.
TLDR - Bullet heavens are cheap so it boils down to (1) is it fun? and (2) is it worth your time? Unfortunately it's not worth your time as the fun is extremely short lived due to lack of depth, customization, and meta progression. Unfortunately requested a refund even though its $9. +cool aesthetic +/-PUBG/Fornite/BattleRoyale gas fog to narrow you down is interesting, but uninspiring +/-Cool, ONE song that's too short and on repeat. I muted game audio after 20 minutes -Characters often share the same weapon just w/ a diff skin/color -for some reason each character shares this special shock ability and there's no way to change it -power ups in the game are sometimes vague in their explanation of behavior. leaving u to experiment and try it blindly. -Very little depth -Maps are MASSIVE -same enemies on every map -jank hitboxes
This game was super fun! I like that each level has varying times so if you want to have just a quick game, you could play the 10 minute map, or if you want to challenge yourself, you could play the more difficult levels that take 15+ minutes. The characters are pretty cool to look at and each have different abilities. So far my favorite is Raven. Music is nice to listen to, environments have so much area to explore, and there's several types of enemies to keep you on your toes. Definitely a fun game to shut your brain off to and talk about whatever while shooting undead and/or bugs with your friends. Haven't gotten around to trying single player mode but I'm willing to bet it's just as challenging.
gameplay here: https://youtu.be/s3RTNuDd8QE Overall a pretty fun game I love that all the characters seems to have pretty unique primary abilities that affect there play style and overall the character design/aesthetic is cool. Being able to jump is pretty neat, but even with the upgraded jump I couldn't get on top of some of the buildings where upgrades/enemies would sometimes spawn. The Raven/relic hunt is quite neat as it adds something to do to get you to travel the map, but the fact your camera is pointed towards your character instead of top down makes it seem like enemies coming from the bottom of the screen are incredibly hard to react too as some monsters seem to sprint a lot faster than others so moving to the top/horizontal feels and probably is immensely safer than moving to the bottom even with full zoom out. The storm concept is interesting and almost adds some challenge to the game on the later levels. I'm not sure all the abilities affect the green mini boss man that spawns on the dungeon map and later though i.e. the vampire primary attack after summoning the very unintelligent minions or the entity ability/primary bullets of the guy who has entity bullets. The Dungeon Map was actually the bane of my existence until I found out you could exit the area with all the walls I honestly thought that was the entire map at first and it sucked. Enemies shoot through the walls from the outside walls in the game make it almost impossible to see around your character enough to protect yourself, etc. Luckily on one run, I looked around enough to the right after you hit the first fork to find out you can escape the building area thank goodness. I didn't play the co-op, but I could imagine that being pretty fun if the game gets more difficult cause in the games current state right now even hard mode is quite easy outside of lingering in the dungeon as mentioned. The level up abilities also feel a bit mundane compared to other games in the genre and there's not many of them the characters having unique attacks makes up for this a bit, but after replaying through all the levels it gets a little bit stale. It's kind of weird the graveyard was the only place I found actual quests too and kind of lame because there's only 10 minutes to do them on the map so you have to dead sprint to the quest location or you have no shot at doing them. It's unfortunate that the game's achievements are only in game as well instead of steam achievements it lessens the replay value quite a bit. The game for me was fun enough and has some neat ideas, but it definitely has room for improvement.
Very fun and has 4 player co op
