the game makes both of my monitors flashes endlessly and wont let me play the game.
It's several games in one. A city builder, a real-time tactical battler, and an action RPG. Worth trying out if you like any of those, though none of them are super deep.
JRPG overrated trash.
Apparently I sank about 8 hours into this back in 2018, but I saw it as I was scrolling through my library and couldn't remember playing. I installed it again and gave it a whirl. I've spent 30 minutes in a new game, and I've already uninstalled it and am hiding it in my library. I'm never touching it again; it is completely unplayable. The camera has this problem where as soon as you stop actively moving it, it drops to a position where, if your character is facing forwards, you are staring upwards straight at their rear end. Having the character center frame is fine. Dropping to where you literally can't see anything around you because of the upwards angle of the camera is inexcusable. And there is no delay, it resets the milisecond you stop moving the camera. Trying to get a look at that character a dozen yards away to see if they're an enemy? Too ****ing bad, all you get is a blur of color. Whoever designed this camera system should be blacklisted from ever touching game design again. I'd love to experience the rest of the game, and judge it on its merits, but I was already running into problems controlling my character, running into enemies I couldn't see, in the first stealth tutorial 15 minutes into the game. Nope. I am not wasting my time. I'm already frustrated enough to leave this review, I'm not giving them any more. Screw this.
I'm not that into JRPGs. This is one of the few I actually like. Beautiful graphics, plenty of side content and I think the combat is actually pretty good. Could be better, but it's still fun for me.
Personally, I felt that Ni No Kuni 2 was leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor. The game being a fantasy action RPG excelled in every aspect. While I felt that the story doesn’t quite reach the level of NNK1, it was still enjoyable, with the characters taking the spotlight and being thoroughly likable. The combat in the game shares some similarities with the Souls series, with the key difference being that most bosses don’t one-shot the entire party, making the experience more forgiving through the use of revival items. NNK2 actively encouraged grinding through a well-thought out system in the form of a end-game quest that spanned across the entire game's timeline. Furthermore, the city-building feature in NNK2 added a sense of natural progression and depth to the world-building. The only gripe I had was the skirmish feature, it felt out of place and was ultimately repetitive and unengaging. All in all, NNK2 was clearly designed as a stress-free experience for children, however, I believe adults can also enjoy it as a way to relive the carefree spirit of childhood. It offered a good and simple story fit for passing time.
