About
Spiderweb Software's classic adventure of treachery and battle in ancient times has returned! Travel back to ancient Britannia for a tale of cunning foes, vicious battles, and a race to rediscover the lost secrets of magic.
Britannia is a land ravaged by war. The natives of this land, the savage Celts, have long been subjugated by the Roman invaders. At last, they have risen up in bloody rebellion. Battles rage across the land. Cities are sacked, the inhabitants massacred. And, lost in the chaos, in the small, forgotten valley of Shadowvale, a plan is being formed.
Soon, a band of barbarians will rediscover the lost secrets of magic. They will find a way to rid their lands of their oppressors forever. And you, as the Celtic warriors, will attempt to free your people.
Or you, as the Romans, will attempt to crush them. For the good of the Empire.

Great writing, decent gameplay, and a tolerable UI. Make sure to save your progress in different slots, as the game is unforgiving. I got soft-locked after saving right before encountering an overpowered enemy in a narrow passage, which resulted in my entire party being wiped out without a chance of escape.
If you can handle the old graphics and mechanics, Nethergate Resurrection provides a lot of fun adventuring. I played as the Romans in my first playthrough and then re-played as the Celts. I think it is JUST barely worth doing both sides. The Romans are outsiders and their perspective of events and the setting are different from the Celts and its interesting to see how things play out differently. Maybe you skip some of the major sidequests in the 2nd play if you did them in the first.
I played this game to death as a kid, specifically the demo. There used to be a barrier at the bridge to the other side of the land, literally satan would appear, laughing and telling you to purchase the full game at $20. There used to be a cap at your HP 99, and beasts you summon with magic you could kill to level you up, making you basically have infinite XP. The game has a ton of secret walls that can even lead to secret dungeons, bosses and story behind it. A lot of cheap deaths as well as epic ones. I suggest avoiding the character editor, this game wasn't really meant to have an 'easy mode' per say. Just be sure to save often.
Hard yes. It's old, it's outdated, it has no voice acting, it has no music... Spiderweb Software games tend to be something you love or hate... and I love it. I've often wanted them to revisit this setting, as I felt Avernum didn't need 4-6 but I'm one of those people who remember when it was the 'Exile' series. The Romans are more military focused than magic, and the Celts are more magic focused that martial. Both are fun! This game set the standard for Avernum 1-3's engine; if you like the original Avernum trilogy, this should be right up your alley.
so far the best Spiderweb Software game I have played, the story is very unique and not a copy pasta or mixture of many other 0815-rpgs. I wish I could delete my memory and do it again, ok, I'll just wait another 10 years and then it should be of the same effect! 10/10 (if you care things like visual effect, sounds, music, then 7,5/10, because it looks like a game of the late 80s tbh)
大量的文字描述和说明,在此作中再次看到了小时候玩的《Exile》系列的身影,传奇D&D类游戏鼻祖!
Traditional RPG done so well. The story line is nicely built and you have guaranteed replay value. This game was made 24 years ago, so the learning curve for someone very new to this will be a bit rough. If you can grind through it, you'll find this game as well as many other from SpiderwebSoftware are totally worth it.
Fantastic classic rpg. I love this game so much - i've literally been playing it for over 15 years. I come back to it two or three times a year!
If you love Spiderweb Software's games, you will love this. If not, than maybe not so much. It will feel much like the others in the franchise, only the stories seem to differ and even then... That is not to knock it however, as it is like saying DOOM played exactly like DOOM 2, but if you have played any number of these RPGs, you will know exactly what I am talking about. That being said, it does have tons of content. Lots of places to explore, items to find, use and sell and monsters to vanquish on your two distinct journeys, one being of the Roman's point of view and the other of the Celts. I still find myself enjoying the game, even though it looks and feels like the others. Although apparently I do have a sound issue. There is a constant static with the atmospheric music. Nothing I can do about it it seems. The people on the actual official website are quite nice though and do like to help. But they either do not hear the same static I do or they are just tone deaf to it, meaning they think that is how it is suppose to sound and I just can not accept that, not even for an older game like this. Also be aware this is a one shot game. Although as I said there are two point of views, this is all there is. There is not a part two or three, etc. like most other Spiderweb Software games have. So keep that it mine. Still it will take you a long time to finish. I do recommend it. But again the sound problem is my main gripe.
Very cool game with an oldschool feel. Waiting for an HD version.
