NEON STRUCT: Carrion Carrier —

As the only active speedrunner of the original Neon Struct this was right up my alley. It's a very different game to Neon Struct and a much smaller game in comparison, but a great effort for a free game jam game and it's heaps of fun once you get enough upgrades.
super ja!!
Took me 5 seconds to download and 40 minutes to beat, simple and fun. You're losing nothing by playing it.
Feels like working in the most entertaining Amazon warehouse.

Minor Key Games has some great titles but this one just doesn't do it for me. Apart from being free I'm not sure what people like about this game. The maze-like layout make the waypoints almost useless and the rapid energy depletion is just annoying. As you play you'll learn the layout & earn upgrades but it just felt like a chore to me. But hey it's free so give it a go if it interests you.
NEON STRUCT: Carrion Carrier is a demo/quick game developed in a very short space of time for a game jam. It's a very simple cut down ripoff of games like Mirror's Edge as you do basic third person platforming to beat the clock on a series of deliveries while running through esoteric, low poly minimalist environments. Because the game was slapped together in a game jam instead of developed as a serious product intended for gamers, a lot of corners have been cut. Game jams are fine and well for evangelising game development and trying to convince people game development isn't a job but a hobby, but the products produced in game jams obviously aren't of the same high standard as professionally developed games intended for gamers. While this looks pretty good for a game jam demo (at least it has 3D graphics), the minimalist/low poly "art" makes this look like a reject from 2003 rather than a contemporary video game. There's not a lot of depth to the game, either. If you're looking for a parkour/3D runner game I suggest looking at the excellent Mirror's Edge series. The problem with game jam games is that they're typical of the effort that's put in. If this was an aircraft, would you want to ride in the plane that was designed over a period of years by teams of professional aeronautical engineers, or the plane that was built in a weekend by a guy in his backyard out of old nails and bits of wood, just to prove it can be done? Yeah, not many people are climbing aboard the airplane-jam plane. At least they've made this free and aren't trying to make this into a cash grab.
