About
Combining furious run ‘n’ gun action and deep, roguelike mechanics, Neon Abyss pits you as a member of ‘Grim Squad’ – a task force set-up by Hades himself to infiltrate the Abyss and defeat the New Gods. Death is not the end as every time you die, you’ll find yourself more empowered than before.

As you progress through each dungeon, random item drops will be key in helping you infiltrate the Abyss and these passive effects can stack between every item. With no limit to how many can apply; a wide variety of combinations will make each run unique.

With each run, you will be able to unlock new rooms, items, bosses, special rules and even new endings! This means each dungeon is unique and expandable, being tailored to your own specific playstyle.
If you need some company on your journey into the depths of the abyss, or just some additional firepower or assistance, eggs can be found which will turn into a random pet that has a special ability and will evolve the longer you survive.
Take a short break from slaying minions and take part in random mini-games that will also bag you some loot! Jump into Piano Performances, Meditation Challenge, Dance Competitions, and more – staying alive just got a lot more interesting!

The games first impression is so much fun! It is your typical rougelike game, lots of weapons, lots of upgrades, lots of enemies and randomly generated dungeons. There are so many good upgrades, if you get a good run, you'll feel invincible, while other runs can feel impossible. There are a lot of negative combinations for items aswell, so as long as you don't know what which item does, you'll suddenly end up for example with explosive shots that constantly kill yourself, because you got no item yet to protect you from your own explosions, but your weapon hits the entire screen. It does get repetitive after a while, as you'll always play through the same levels and same bosses until you encounter the last, a new boss for each run. There isn't much new stuff in terms of the story, just jump in, do the next run! The runs take about an hour, can be much longer if you get loads of money and play all the minigames with it. Would have prefered it to be a bit shorter like it was the first few runs tbh. So why is it getting longer after the first runs? Because at first it stops at level 5, then level 6, then 7 and lastly you get until level 8/9 for the last bosses. These last bosses also have special conditions for meeting them, so you might not even get it done to get to them in the run. The one thing, I feel like makes this game harder than it should, is how many weapons and upgrades boost not only your damage, but your visuals aswell. Your shots get bigger, they multiply, they bounce around. Sometimes makes it impossible to see enemy projectiles. Occasionally I get such big shots, can't even see the big bosses in their rooms, because my weapons just blank out the entirety of the screen. I just keep firing and hope that they die, before I die, because I can't see what they're even doing. Because of these things, the first few times playing this, feel more fun imo. Even though you have no idea whats going on, you can at least still follow it and are done with a run quicker aswell. I have not yet played the the sequel to this game, I wanted to start with this one, but it definitely sold me on getting it! Even though you can select different difficulty options, it also has another type of difficulty changes going on. If you win lots of times in a row, you get harder runs, if you lose, you get easier ones. There are little dots over the difficulty setting showing you how hard your setting is. It ranges from 1 to 5 dots. 5 dots on easy are even harder than 1 dot on normal. I don't know where exactly it changes, but it is something to keep in mind. Or maybe you can just lose a few runs on purpose, if you don't like how hard its gotten. I liked the difficulty on normal, but I have not been able to clear all the bosses. I am giving up here, as I don't like doing 1 hour runs, just to not be able to get to the right boss at the end, or if I do get the right boss, not have enough hearts to survive the fight.. I guess, I am simply not good enough, but I had my fair share of fun!

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 18: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Honestly I'm trying REALLY hard to like this game, but it's just not possible. It just feels like playing a game with a lot of slight inconveniences placed around. Oh! There's a door/chest here that you have to play slots to open - but sometimes it'll randomly 'break' and you'll be barred from getting the mediocre loot that's behind it. Oh! There's a challenge room where you fight rounds of enemies but sometimes there's a thing in the middle that shoots a laser just because. It's not attached to the difficulty of the waves, it's just random. Oh there's platforms you have to time your jumps on to get to some loot. Not hard, just inconvenient. They put a chest behind some rocks. Blow it up but don't hit the chest or else you'll lose your affinity! There's a crystal that will give you a little bit of affinity. It's placed in a random spot in the room so if you or the enemies hit it, you'll lose all your affinity! There's game rooms which I thought were REALLY cool but they're too rare, locked behind those stupid slot doors, and most times you get the same games. The games aren't hard, but they're unique at least. Most of the items have the same effects. Oh you get an extra jump. How about an entire arsenal of items that just give you one extra jump? All different items and on the same run, btw. And you can't tell what they are because the item names and images have nothing to do with what the item does. You only ever need two jumps btw - nothing else is locked behind three jumps or more. Just two. How about options for melee? It's borderline useless except for when you get this one gun that deals melee damage. Regardless, there are a LOT of melee items. Once again, borderline useless except for when you get that one gun. The game has a fair bit of unique aspects but its' just poorly put together and doesn't feel well balanced. I tried. I love roguelikes, but this is just... bland.
I originally bought it because why not it's on sale. I meant to play 5 minutes it's been 3 hrs I need to hurry and write this review so I can get back to the Neon Abyss. Seriously it's a great game, awesome music, buy it before the sale is over. Lol.
Good game. Don't let reviews from basement dwellers convince you otherwise. This is a fun, addictive and beautiful game with a lot of content. Got it on sale for less than $5 and I am having a blast playing after work. Streamers and people with no jobs and no real life problem living with mom and dad may think otherwise, but they live in another reality.
As long as the game continues to crash or bug out within 10-20 min I can't recommend the game. I think it could be fun otherwise.
At this stage, who doesn't already have at least 20 far better roguelikes in their library?
