PS4 controller doesn't work.
Its very mediocre against my expectations. Most Wanted 2012 has animations that make the cars feel alive, good handling, great sounds and amazing music, a great map Rivals has a very fun "campaign" and great pursuits. being able to play as a cop, good music and a good map Payback has cringy, but still likeable characters, a gambling system thats weird but still some things going for it like a decent map, relatively long story, passable music and more Heat has ok music depending on taste, looks good as its newer, has a lot of content, a lot of cars with great customization, and is overall actually pretty fun Hot Pursuit remastered has great pursuit action, fun to play whether you're cop or racer, good music, cool equipment and more This barely has any of that going for it. Whenever the NFS games go on sale for 2 or 3 bucks i'd recommend all of them except for this one. If you manage to get past the weird control issues, which worked fine on my steam deck but not on my windows pc, the game is actually nicely optimized and looks promising. However the cars handle very weirdly, and IMO that makes it very unfun to play, almost tedious. The story, at least to me, was kind of incomphrehensible. We are just a group of friends just racing, and i don't have a problem with a simple, barely present story (see MW 2012 which i found very fun), but the cutscenes with real actors are often just about no topic in particular and tedious to get through. The customization has weirdly little options for something like a classic supra or gt86, and i'm hoping theres more to unlock there, it doesn't seem like it. The menus are weird to get through, customizing a cars performance requires you to understand the strange parts system, and i haven't been able to sell un-needed parts. The map is always very dark and i somewhat dislike the visual effects, but thats more subjective. What isn't subjective is the always online requirement, meaning you can't properly pause the game and the car will keep rolling while in the menu! Bizarre. The cherry on top for me is the "bad" soundtrack though thats also subjective, but i prefer the mix of electronic, metal, rock and other stuff that games like MW2012, Rivals, or Pacback have. I don't hate rap or latin music at all, i like those genres too, but the music in this game barely fits the game. if you even notice it over the weird sound dynamics at all. Lastly theres barely any sense of speed when you turn off motion blur, but with it on, as usual, it becomes harder on the eyes for me. The lack of an adjustment of how much blur you want is always a smalldownside. I admit i haven't played for a long time, but i'm by no means stupid, and i've played other NFS titles for many hours, this one is just a mediocre one in comparsion. Its not terribly unfun and many people enjoy it, but i probably won't be playing this one much more. Again, whever the NFS games go on sale, try Heat, Rivals and Payback, and make sure to give MW 2012 a shot, a very underrated and overhated NFS game. I added specifications of my pc, but again, at least its optimized, so if you really wanna play it, it'll probably run well, for me it runs good at high to ultra settings. on the steam deck, IF you can get past the stupid EA app and the game launches ( for some reason on the deck the other games like heat or most wanted 2012 have zero problems. This one does, and it breaks with every passing day ), it'll run at a nice smooth 60fps at medium settings which admittedly looks great. You can use decky lsfg for frame generation if you want or lower some settings to low to make it more consistent.
^^
Need for Speed™ brings back the underground street racing vibe with stunning visuals, solid customization, and a great nighttime atmosphere. The handling isn't for everyone, but if you enjoy style over realism, it's a fun ride. 8/10.
