I don't understand why this game has gotten so much hate.
It's so much better than the newest woke iteration of NFS. Has old school styled movie type cutscenes, police chases, wanted system, and no S, S+, A, A+ category races, you've got your car/cars and thats it. No cartoony colorful rainbow puke, no anime bs, no they/thems, just a old school NFS styled game. And it ain't even that old, it's a pretty cool racing game, lets be real, it's nowhere near as good as NFS MW2005 or Underground 2 or even NFS Heat, but it's a really good NFS game. Drifting feels amazing in this one, might be the best drifting in all of NFS, in my opinion. Give it a try when on sale if you haven't already. I rate it a solid 7 so far, will change my rating when I finish the game.
After spending several hours playing this NFS part, I have very mixed feelings about it. The game looks visually amazing, the nighttime atmosphere of the city is fantastic, and the car customization is genuinely great, but many of the developers’ decisions hurt the experience more than they improve it. The biggest issue starts before you even begin playing — having to link an EA account to Steam is unnecessarily annoying and only makes accessing the game more complicated. People just want to play the game, not deal with another launcher and account linking. Another huge problem is the vehicle handling itself. The cars feel extremely unnatural, and the arcade physics are often ridiculously exaggerated. For example, using the handbrake at 200 km/h can instantly spin your car 180 degrees or nearly stop it completely, which feels absurd and ruins the sense of speed. Instead of being fun, the handling often feels like fighting against the game’s physics. In my opinion, the open world does not fit Need for Speed very well. The map looks nice, but most of the time you are just wasting time driving from one event to another. Older NFS games had much better pacing, with races packed closer together and less unnecessary filler. The absolute worst decision, however, is the online mode during story races. Being forced to stay connected and having random players constantly present during the campaign is a terrible idea. Other players often get in the way, ruin the atmosphere, and make it impossible to enjoy the story at your own pace. Overall, the game has excellent visuals, great optimization, and an amazing nighttime street-racing atmosphere, but the gameplay and technical flaws drag the experience down significantly. Rating: 4/10 – amazing atmosphere and customization, but terrible handling and unnecessary online features ruin the overall experience.
A game presumably built with controller in mind doesn't have functional controller support by default... Always online, connection required, EA launcher...hecks no for me dude
Now as for the game itself.... Despite its whacky physics and live action cutscenes, this game has to be one of my favorite NFS games ever. The atmosphere of the world in this game is just amazing and the map design is great too. The soundtrack is pretty solid aswell compared to NFS heat. Also, I personally enjoyed the cutscenes because they added a bit of liveliness to the game. Even though the physics of heat and payback are (much) better, you can still get used to these whacky physics and have a great time. No it's not Underground 3 No it's not Carbon 2 No it's not Most Wanted 2 But hey, this is the closest thing you will find to it. For $10 it's a bargain that's absolutely worth the price.
Even 11 years after its release, Need for Speed (2015) remains one of the most atmospheric and soul-filled entries in the modern era of the franchise. It is an absolute love letter to the fans, radiating pure Need for Speed: Carbon vibes with its perpetual night, rain-slicked streets, and underground racing culture. Here is why this game is still worth your time: 🟢 The Good Stunning Graphics & Atmosphere: Visually, the game has aged like fine wine. The lighting, neon reflections, and wet asphalt create an incredibly realistic and moody environment that modern titles often miss. Banging Soundtrack: The music curation is top-tier, perfectly capturing the adrenaline-fueled vibe of urban street racing. Story & Live-Action Cutscenes: The story is highly entertaining, and the transition into live-action cutscenes is brilliant. The actors did a fantastic job bringing the cheesy, high-energy car culture to life—fist bumps and all! Active Multiplayer: Believe it or not, the multiplayer is still fully alive and working. Despite the game being over a decade old, there are more than enough players online to fill the streets and race with. 🟡 The Minor Flaws PC Handling: The car physics and handling can feel a bit wonky and "heavy" on PC at times. It takes some getting used to, but once you fine-tune your slider settings, it becomes manageable. Initial Blurry Visuals: Out of the box, the game can look a bit blurry due to the temporal anti-aliasing. However, this is an easy fix: just add some image sharpening in your GPU driver settings (NVIDIA Profile Inspector or AMD Radeon Software), and the game becomes crystal clear. 🏁 Final Verdict This might not objectively be the absolute best title in the recent lineup mechanically, but it is definitely the one with the most soul, identity, and style. It was clearly made for the core fans who grew up on the classic era of NFS. It is honestly a huge shame that the developers (Ghost Games) were shut down, because what they created here was special. If you want great vibes, a great community, and a true spiritual successor to Carbon, definitely pick this up!
This is one of those games that makes you ask the question just how terribly broken can a game be? It takes a special level of skill to make a game's mechanics so trash.
