“Len, you are going to abandon this town... and die—today” Since her reunion with Shinonome, Len's life is thrust into an all new “reality,” and the curtain which hid the “truth” of this new world is been lifted.

This is a really good VN i would say part 2 is better but this spend time setting up the world and characters thus its still important
Reseña del Juego Ne no Kami - The Two Princess Knights of Kyoto

Visual novel with yuri content? Sign me up!
Introduction
Ne no Kami - The Two Princess Knights of Kyoto is a linear romance VN with some action scenes. The thing that makes this game different from other visual novels I've played is the total absence of heterosexual romance, and that's fine by me. I love yuri, and I originally bought the game for its yuri content, but I was pleasantly surprised by the strength of its writing. That said, let's jump into it.
Worldbuilding
The story is set in modern Japan, but it has supernatural elements belonging to Japanese folklore and mythology. It's interesting to note that the story mixes traditional Japanese elements with modern ones (shrine priests using night vision goggles and satellite phones is a curious juxtaposition). The rules established by the story, especially the ones related to the divine sword wielders are consistent and don't clash each other. There are some unanswered questions though, but, since this game has a sequel (which I'll play after 100% Date A Live: Rio Reincarnation), I won't pass judgement until I completed reading the story.
The plot
The story is about a normal girl who is forcibly involved in abnormal circumstances. There is a group of warriors called The Kunai Organization, whose job is to stop an ancient evil god to return to the world. Like I said in the introduction, the writing is solid, but it isn't anything I haven't seen before. There are small conveniences here and there, but the setups and payoffs are on point. Plot contrivances are nowhere to be seen, let alone plot holes. The pacing is solid and tonal shifts were spot on. The dialogue, though, is a bit cringy at times, but I bet this is a translation issue (more on that on the related section). I am also glad that smart characters don't lose half their IQ pool just to facilitate certain payoffs or plotlines, which is very common in western media nowadays.
The characters
I liked very much the main character of this game, Ese Len. She experiences an extension of the Hero's Journey, but I won't say why, because it's a big fat spoiler. She has clearly defined traits and flaws, goals and motivations, which change depending of what she experiences. I find great that her core flaws create actual conflict, tension and drama, making her make bad choices and paying the price for it, and ultimately changing her completely. She completely steals the show in terms of character writing. The supporting characters, like Uzume, Shinonome and Ruka are mostly static, but static characters doesn't translate necessarily into bad characters. Uzume, for example, has enough flair and personality, and she is very relevant to the plot, aside for being a love interest for Len. Shinonome is Len's closest friend and comrade in arms, so she also has some relevancy. Ruka, on the other hand, appears to be there just to be a love interest for Shinonome, so I wonder why she was included. But, again, I won't be too harsh on this until I read the entire story.
Artistic and technical elements
The art direction is a bit iffy, because some elements are rich in detail and others aren't, like trees or grass. Character design is a bit different from what I'm accustomed to, but it isn't bad. Sound design is decent, albeit not spectacular and the visual effects are surprisingly good for a game that doesn't have animated sprites. The voice acting is really good, and gives extra personality to the characters (note that this game has a voiced main character). But one of the best things about this game is the music. It fits the setting and the context perfectly, and there are some heavy/power metal themes thrown out for good measure in training/combat scenes. The translation is far from perfect in some instances, because what's been said and what is translated doesn't match. This game also has some H-scenes (via paid DLC), and I am here to tell you that there is no mosaiques. You heard it. No mosaiques whatsoever, so you can enjoy girl on girl action in the best way possible. In conclusion: Pros: -Solid writing across the board. -Amazing main character. -Great music (especially the metal themes) -Non-mosaiqued H-scenes. Cons: -Not-so-great art direction. -Imperfect translation work. -Some characters (like Ruka) need more development. If I have to summarize my experience with this game it'd be with the following sentence: "I got here for the yuri, and I stayed for the story". Seriously, the story is worth reading and Len is a great example of how to write a good female character. The issues with this game can't outshine the positives, not by a long shot, and, at 18 hours, offers far more than other recent VNs for the price. So, if you like solid storytelling and you love yuri, I wholeheartedly recommend this game.
Decent game. Cute characters. English translation sucked. All the ♥♥♥ proper nouns went over my head. 👍️
