Natsu no Iro no Nostalgia

Don't mind my playtime as I have played this game on the seven seas, and this particular version doesn't have Japanese language anyway. Copied from my review on vndb. Despite what the cover and the screenshots would lead you to believe, Natsu no Iro no Nostalgia is actually a very somber experience, mostly creepy and sometimes even straight up horror. The protagonist and his little sister go back to their hometown after 3 years of living in their aunt's house after a tragic incident that burnt down the house and killed their parents; shortly after their return, they suddenly find themselves stuck in a strange place which the characters call Eden or Labyrinth depends on who you ask, where time does not flow - or more precisely, the same day is repeated over and over again seemingly forever; in here, they are reunited with the other 3 heroines, where the protagonist and his sister hanged with 3 years prior. I love this visual novel so much, I pretty much read it whenever i had free time, I did not play a single other game until I finished it. The story begins with a very impactful scene, one of the heroines is seemingly smashing a person to death with a rock, which will give you a pretty good idea of the tone of this game, as you progress through the story, it will get progressively creepier and creepier, and as you experience each heroine's route, you will find out that all of them each harbour a dark and horrifying secret. Personally I think the game did a great job with its atmosphere, the very first scene, and some very interesting plot hooks after that will make you just want to keep reading. The music while good, they aren't looped very well and it's very noticeable, which can break the immersion. The heroines are cute and the arts are great, especially [spoiler]the jumpscare in Ayame's route that shaved off at least a few years off my lifespan[/spoiler]. In this visual novel, the grand story wasn't exactly the main focus, but it's the characters, how they react and cope with events that happened to them and how will they move on from their past, in this regard, I think the game did a great job, especially in the last part of the final route, it completely turns over every assumptions I had on its head. The game did a great job of delivering its message: "The human heart is the most complex labyrinth." and "Every person makes up their own story and lives inside it.". In conclusion, I greatly enjoyed this game and I hope everyone will give it a try too. I would give this at least 9/10.
