Really want to give positive to this project but I just can't. Graphics and music did what they could, but the rest is just not catchy. Story is spoken trough tons of IT buzzwords which is hard to follow. Inputs are weird - besides standard WSAD you sometimes can run with K, dodge with H when learned, use energy from weird progress bar interface. Played just to met first boss, covered flashy figures with a hand while they 'spoke' and uninstalled. Sorry, creator, HIM and others..
Story aside, because I'll be honest, I didn't really know what was going on, I enjoyed playing this game. It wasn't too hard and it wasn't too easy either. The game length was about right too (15hrs for me). Graphically it did look good, and the music was really good, both giving the game a good nostalgic 80's feel. That said, I did sometimes find it hard to see what was going on. Finally, for those interested, it played well on the Steam Deck. Play straight out of the box, so no fiddling required........ I played it docked through the TV.
I think it's the first time in 40 years of gaming when I stopped playing before finishing the tutorial. At least, I think I didn't finish it, because everything is so nonsensical and confusing that I'm not even sure. Anyway, the graphics and sound design are outstanding but that's about it. The gameplay is basic and janky, the story is soporific, the objectives are unclear. The first half-hour of the game is just endless technobabble while going back and forth from room to room without understanding why or where you're supposed to go, with occasional 10 seconds of combat to learn a new move. I don't mind games that try to be weird for the sake of being weird if there's something engaging, but I see nothing of the sort here. But anyway even the artistic aspect isn't that appealing. The pixel art is gorgeous but there are visual elements of a different resolution which kinda break the retro effect. Also the influences on the lore are a bit too obvious, namely Tron and various sci-fi literature. But the gameplay is really the biggest flaw. The character's pace is too quick and slidy, and the combat feels a bit wonky because of weird collisions and enemy behaviors. If this already was slightly annoying for the few gameplay sections I've encountered, I don't want to deal with the frustrating progression just to see everything get worse.
