A sideways thumb. Pros: cute enemies, consistent art style, okay combat. Contras: spongy enemies, save point scarcity, mandatory "you have to traverse this part again and again" sequences before bosses, aggravating stamina mechanic.
Another short metroidvania definitely fun for a handful of hours. The progression is great and open. Finding everything was fun not really a chore. Atmospheric, unique, and exciting. Some flaws, like opening the inventory on the same screen (so you can't leave map open have to open and switch) and some other small stuff. Fun for achievement hunters, the challenge to beat the game with no wrench is fun. Just don't pick it up or use the auto heal chip and it's a pretty straightforward 100% with no missables. So this provides a great 100% game with a small fun challenge. Although I don't think I spent more than 5 ish tries per boss.
Amazing game. The pixel art is gorgeous and pairs perfectly with smooth, responsive gameplay. Progression and ability unlocks are balanced really well. My only real complaint is the lack of challenging bosses—no boss took me more than two tries, and most went down on the first attempt. A solid 8.5/10
Hollow knight but you finish it in under 10 hours I MEAN in the end of the day video games just copy each other ngl, so I feel like authentically it's like sorta ok I guess??????? Considering how this game is obviously made from studying hollow knight, by playing this game you can no doubt scratch that hollow knight craving itch for a bit, I recommend it for that it definitely scratched that a little. For a game by itself however, I REALLY want to give this a "mediocre" review if it had one: 1. Overall game feel: The combat and sfx is clunky which made me feel pretty awkward throughout the entire game (I know they're robots but I feel like they really could use more juice feedback, but to me it was at least acceptable) 2. Needlessly infuriating heat mechanic (stamina mechanic): The game makes you overheat from dashing, using spells, and grappling hook, and healing, preventing you from doing everything I just said for a period of time (except healing). Look, I get you need another reward type (collectables that reduce overheating) to find in maps but, this just discourages the player from using movement mechanics in combat. When they are needed to be used when exploring, you need to wait a while to cool down every once in a while. 3. Bosses: The bosses are uninteresting. Some boss runbacks are needlessly long for some reason but like, other games have that too. The bosses are easy though, all bosses took less than 5 attempts to beat, so at least they won't hinder your exploration progression. 4. Story: The lore is uninteresting. Having a story that is too similar to another game breaks immersion, so half the time I didn't even bother reading the story. 5. Graphics: While it has its own visual identity, the visual identity in question is kinda an eyesore at times due to bright saturated colors toned up too high for background visuals, and sometimes the enemies blend into said background's platform colors which isn't great for readability. Call me a person who has high standards but, ignoring hollow knight, with all the unrelated flaws I can't give this game a positive review. Maybe I'll change my mind when I 100% the entire game?
Pretty cool, it's got some of the qualities I prefer in a metroidvania: - Not too long to beat - Good soundtrack - Different areas that decently differentiate themselves I don't particularly like the melee combat and the map system. Good game though.
A good metroidvania. Maybe not the most groundbreaking and border pushing one of these, but a very solid and fun one that doesn't really do anything wrong. I really liked it.
Made me discover the genre of metroidvania. A genre that i know love. It will always hold a special place for me now. Retrospectively, it was a great entry point. It has a level of polish and consistency rarely seen.
