Narrative-driven exploration Emotional storytelling Rich in atmosphere Outstanding visual design
I organized the inventory and came up with this one. A bizarre title, I decided to give it a try. A walking simulator, with 3 major maps: A pitch-black cave with giant glowing caterpillars; A mansion leads to graveyard; A path in the woods to a lighthouse. For a walking simulator the movement is TOO SLOW and the road is long, the graphics are plain except the starring sky looks good. The narrator gives pieces of the story, however lines scattered around the world in neon light made me blind to read - I got bored fast knowing the story is either new or original. The main problem is that it is too dark in the cave, even with the light ball I have trouble seeing around and finding the path. The puzzles are regular, shooting light is awful because without an aim I have to try several times to hit the right spot. Good thing is not all puzzles are required to finish to proceed. The giant jellyfish looks cool, but the rest of the game is plain, I can't think of anything else special, besides I got stuck twice and had to load the last save.
A very touching story with beautiful graphics of nature with pretty colors and the moon. If you follow the story then you will find out what is this all about. Make sure to play it on a Thursday to get 100% achievements without the need to change the date!
If you like walking simulators and puzzles then I think you'll enjoy this. It's a chill game. There's also things to collect and achievements of course. Trading cards. The visuals and ambience are really great. A little bit thought provoking. I recommend playing at night with headphones on and the lights out for full enjoyment. I don't have the patience right now to complete it but I know a good game, or at least one that has had thought, effort and heart put into it when I see one and this is one of those.
Quick Review
"N.E.R.O.: Nothing Ever Remains Obscure" is a short narrative driven game with some puzzles and exploration to keep the player hooked into it's story. It is not the most polished game of the world and the puzzles aren't always interesting but in general the game looks great and the story + the narrator make it interesting keeping the other aspects of the game as kind of secondary elements of the experience while focusing on the exploration of the world/story. (Playthrough/Gameplay of the game) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IXSEqidZpc If this quick review isn't useful to you maybe the following "extended version" could help ^^
The good

Visuals are quite good sometimes and the spaces the game takes place into are interesting.
A simple story that gets developed with an original aproach to storytelling.
Puzzles won't get in your way and generally feel quite smooth to get through.

The bad

Awful "checkpoint" system, in one case I closed the game and when I tried to continue I had to redo/rewalk 5 to 10 minutes that I had already played.
Some times the game takes control over the camera, if you try to move while the game does it the player camera can be broken. I managed to get my vision crooked and had to reload and redo 5 minutes of walking just to fix it.

Things that might help you decide

Game it's short, around 2h if you explore a little bit.

Final recommendation / Price evaluation
For the price the game it's actually a good purchase, it has some weak points and rough edges but overall for 5€ game it's a nice experience in case you are looking for something simple and a good story to enjoy. I hope this review is useful to you ^^. If you want to support me remember to check out the videos linked in the review, like and subscribe. Have fun playing ^^
Replayed this game in VR after abandoning it back when it was first released. It's much better in VR (although some visual elements are missing) and although the world is amazing, the game itself falls kinda flat and I can't put my finger on it. Still a decent 1st person walking sim with occasional (optional) puzzles, great music, voicework and visuals. 7.9 out of 10.
amazing and beautifully made game, an absolute masterpiece that is both sad and yet beautiful
Сначала "Зеньки", теперь это "Ничего". Вот оно и ничего и не представляет интересного...
https://youtu.be/MMh2mVg3QNA Walking slowly through caves with small puzzles interspersed is far to slow pacing to make this experience feel worth the time investment.
