I did not like My Time at Portia... I did not enjoy it at all. There's a level of unexplainability to the level of which I didn't enjoy it. Whether its the art style, the movement, the way the machines work, the time, or WHATEVER... That said... I have REALLY enjoyed Sandrock. To such a degree I am shocked and very happy I gave in to try this one after failing to get into the previous game. And that summarizes why I'm writing this review. If you did not like Portia, but felt like there was SOMETHING there you should of or could of enjoyed, then its worth trying Sandrock.
Enjoyable Game without rush!
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into My Time at Sandrock, but wow… this game completely sucked me in. It starts off pretty chill, but before you know it you’re fully invested; fixing up your workshop, taking commissions, and actually caring about what happens to the town. It doesn’t feel like mindless grinding either, which surprised me. Everything you do kind of builds on itself in a really satisfying way. The characters are honestly one of the best parts. They’re weird (in a good way), funny (Unsuur this is for you pal!), and actually feel different from each other. I ended up enjoying the dialogue way more than I thought I would. Gameplay-wise, it just hits that sweet spot. Gathering, crafting, upgrading… it’s super easy to fall into that “just one more thing” loop. Some nights I looked up and realized hours had passed. Also, the whole desert vibe is done really well. It’s cozy without being boring, if that makes sense. Overall, I didn’t expect to like it this much, but it’s definitely become one of those games I keep going back to when I just want to relax and get lost in something for a while. Absolutely worth it. Easily one of the most enjoyable, immersive experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Nice game to calm and ease your mind, it's like staying in a place where everything slows down.
Overall I liked the game. It was a solid improvement over My Time At Portia. There was so much content to go through! It took me almost 160 hours to go through most of it. I didn't complete some of it because of how long it would seem to take to level up enough. The Pet DLC definitely makes the game even easier with being being able to constantly have 10 pets out collecting materials and water. My main complaint about the game would be the the large number of items and difficulty in managing them. You could have items in random chests and turn them in with quests, but not so with gift giving. Then for item upgrading, they'd pull from random chests. With the insane number of possible items, it made finding things a little difficult. At one point I found it easier just to install a mod that made all the sorting alphabetical because at least then I could just find the item I want that way. Hopefully better filtering for items is done in My Time At Evershine. Most minor annoyances I hope get taken care of in Evershine are related to quests. Had some conflicting events not all handled correctly. For example, the Halloween Ghost event I missed in year 1 because I had a timed quest to follow either Mi-an or Elsie (can't remember which). Other quest annoyances were unlisted time constraints that you failed because it never said you had x amount of time to complete it. Even had one quest I failed it because I couldn't create the items fast enough with a single machine in the listed time constraint it had. If you are new to the series either play Portia first and then this game, but if you played this game first, you may find yourself disappointed by Portia.
10/10 my horse is named ladybug
Having plenty of fun, the multiplayer and singleplayer are incredibly distinct which I see as a huge plus!
I have enjoyed this game so much. I have not locked into a game like this in so long.
