My Personal Angel is a black and white visual novel about the complexities of relations between people. It often rains in our city, and sometimes it's difficult to differ the day from the night. Almost always the sky covered in dark gray clouds. Maybe because the city itself is a port, and the endless splashing of the raging sea.

TL;DR This VN offers an average plot presented with below average writing style and a poor translation, along with simple artwork at a high price tag. If you don't mind stories with a sad theme and you can grab it in a bundle or get a key at deep discount, then it's worth a read - but I can't recommend paying more then a dollar to two for this VN. 3/10 stars SUMMARY "My Personal Angel" is the story of Vladimir, a dock worker living with his girlfriend Erica. Vlad feels trapped with no way to better his lifestyle, then a chance for more money presents itself to him. CHARACTERS The character of Vladimir reminded me of Michael from the author's previous story "Say Goodbye". With a change of his job and his graphics, you have pretty much the same miserable depressed insensitive jerk who constantly swears and often has nightmares. Much like Michael, it was hard to find him a likeable or relatable character. Vlad's girlfriend Erica is clearly in love with Vlad and tired of putting up with some of his antics, but she's also willing to stand by his side. Her loyalty in the face of doubt and devotion to him were admirable traits. When I first saw Anya, I mistook her to be Sarah from the author's previous story "Say Goodbye". They appear to use the same stock images. Despite their similar appearance, the personality of Anya was nothing like Sarah. Anya met Vlad while working at a coffee shop, when he stepped in between her and an overbearing boss. Anya dreams of going to acting school, and is saving up for her dream. As in the previous novel I read by this developer, most male characters often speak with frequent swearing and f-bombs - IMO even when the situation doesn't warrant that language :( Interestingly, I haven't noticed any female characters swearing. STORY The introduction contains a warning that the story is sad and depressing, and that it contains a bad translation. The story starts with Vlad listening to Anya feeling sad over the disturbing memory of
her grandmother drowning blind kittens.
The story shows a "slice of life" of Vlad, and his frustration at being working class and not having opportunities for advancement. Then an opportunity comes to Vlad to recover some money lost in a plane wreck with some of his co-workers - but it will require a substantial investment of cash. I found the story itself to be interesting, but the way it was written was too verbose. Vlad often describes things and his own thoughts in painfully annoying details. The author clearly has some talent for writing, but needs to focus on "Show Don't Tell" - in this story, most things are TOLD to you and very little is SHOWN through the characters experiences in the world. This did impact my enjoyment of the story. CHOICES The players choices do affect the character routes, and there are 5 different endings - Very Bad, Bad 1, Bad 2, Mystery and Good. The routes branch early, and it requires several playthroughs to get all endings. I was pleasantly surprised that the mystery ending had
a cameo appearance from a character from "Say Goodbye".
PRESENTATION Overall, I found this VN's presentation to be below average. The creator acknowledges the poor translation in the initial game startup after choosing "English". The character art was acceptable quality, but the characters look fairly basic and unpolished. The same character stock art was re-used from a previous story. (The way I initially mistook this novel's Anya for the previous novel's Sarah is an example of how generic the artwork is when re-used). The music was unremarkable, and there is no soundtrack included or available as a DLC. There is no CG gallery. TECHNICAL This installed and ran OK under Windows 7, 32 bit. There is no steam overlay or steam cloud. There is no control for music and sfx, they are *always on* at a preset volume you cannot control. There are no choices for screen resolution. The game started in windowed mode. As you read, there is a small black square in the upper right corner that takes it into full screen. Those seem to be your only two choices. Only the first save slot worked for me. You cannot save at a choice screen (and often, that's when you would most want to save). Skip is available from the start, but skipping is painfully slow as transitions from scene to scene and even day/night lighting slow it down to a crawl. I found this to be especially frustrating considering I only had one functional save slot. for the final verdict, it gets a ... THUMBS DOWN I was on the fence between thumbs up and down, because it has it's share of both good and bad points. In the end what tipped me toward a down is it's high price point. ($9.99 USD at the time of this review) Compared to many other VN's I've read, the price just isn't justified. I would have been much more inclined to go with thumbs up if the price was $1-2 USD, but I feel that $9.99 USD is just WAY too high for what you are getting.
Would only recommend if on sale for 75% or bundled. Possibly less for Russian version if the dialogue flows better. I cannot say. Sadly I don't have much good to say. This might be enjoyable for someone who really loves Visual Novels. But the Engilsh translation was not a good experience. It read a lot like me using Google translate and we all know how bad that botches anothers language. Once getting through the story once, it leaves little to be desired for completionist having to rework multiple endings. The dialogue and scene transitions are brutally slow. Even when enforcing right click / Skip. Sometimes the game completely froze and the only solution was using Task Manager to End Task.
This is gonna be hard, guys. The review is mixed. Why? Well, this visual novel has many choices, has many good points - it's entirely in black and white, which suits the depressive mood; graphics are great in my view, both characters and backgrounds, they're quite customized and I liked them a lot. And as I said it's not a kinetic visual novel, you're gonna see many different endings. But there are some heavy negative points. Most of all the price - it costs 10$/€ which is WAY TOO MUCH for such a game. And the lack of options. It's clearly something indie-made, but really there is not a single visual novel option. You can't skip the dialogue, even the already-read one, so that going through the whole story in order to get all the endings is a long pain in the ass. You can just employ an autoclicker and rush through it all.. the only settings are related to music and sound effects (quite boring actually), so that you can't intervene by any means on the text flow. This said, I've read on the awesome guide posted a year ago here on Steam about the save function which doesn't work (neither for me) and for a skip option that in my gameplay hasn't appeared - it should appear, following that guide, by right-clicking after the first day. I didn't manage to get it, but it may be also related to the fact that I played it on a crappy pc rather than my gaming one, being this a simple visual novel. Anyways, it's still a downside - the game is very slow, and so are the transitions; in order to get all the endings you're still (even according to the guides) bound and forced to go through the whole story multiple times including the already-read text, which is.. a lot. The whole plot revolves around depression and gloom, with the usual story-changing event (in this case, a plane full of money crashing near the port in which the characters are working and struggling through their lives). The story though manages to get its own strength going on - although as I was saying, playing everything tons of times is definitely annoying; especially for what concerns the fate of Anya and Erica, as you'll see progressing through the game. It's a good story overall, if you like visual novels dealing with depressing and sad themes; it's clearly translated from Russian but it's a nice work in the end and well, it's definitely not a masterpiece (and it's not worth its price) but it's a nice title, not so easy to find among visual novels that usually treat themes like girls, love and romance with anime-like graphics. All in all, if you find this game on discount, get it. It's a good visual novel, quite particular in its style - black and white, dealing with sadness before and after the events, with lots of characters and locations. It's surely slow and be aware that some functions like save/load or skip could or could not work for you. I overall liked it, although I didn't manage to get all the endings yet. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes these themes in visual novels, being just aware for the price and the flaws - among them, the impossibility to view the artwork apart from when you're actually playing in them.
As the novel started by being overly cheesy early in the story, I had a bad thought about how it was about to be. But then it developed into something better than expected with several side stories that twist the things up, which make the game good and worth the price.
Long play of this game can make you depressed and sad. Yes. Unlocking multiple endings really makes me feel it.
Abosolute garbage! I like a story thats supposed to be depressing every now and again but this was a poorly written cash grab with intentionaly long load times for scene transitions and character fade ins to increase the play time. The creator even states that it is poorly translated and in the credits adds that the backgrounds and music are royalty free crap from the internet. The Characters are genericaly made using a basic charater creator software and all look similar in a bad way. I could never find the save funtion despite literaly trying every key on the keyboard, and once the game has been completed the whole thing starts over in another language so you would have to close and restart in order to set the language again if you actually wanted to try for the different endings. Nothing remotely redeeming about this.
A message for the developer: while a friend gave me a copy of this game, I can see why many of the reviews are negative and you did not sell well. I can recommend this game only when (and if) it will became free. I hope for who bought this to receive a refund. Just make this free to play, sell a DLC for the people wanting to support you and refund the purchases. At this state, this is a fraud.
