My Ex-Boyfriend the Space Tyrant

Well, what can I say.... Game is extremely short - just a bit over 3 hours to beat from start to finish. And I don't see much replayability here (except for maybe in-the-lift dialogs... but even those aren't that many after all). People say it's glitchy but I didn't encounter any technical problems at all - works like a clock. I guess that depends more on your hardware/OS. Artwork isn't bad, though in some places almost "not there". Animation - barely exists, walking is slow and kind of "robotic". And for a point-and-click game there could be more elaborate description to a lot of "points" that you click. And dialogs could be a bit more elaborate and with more choices... As for the story itself - I've got enough laugh out of it to be satisfied, but oh boy it's all soooo cheesy... :D I don't say that it's a bad quality in a game though. ;P All in all - not a worst way to spend a few hours of your life, I recommend it. Though IMHO not worth $15 in the store (especially since it's already quite old). But on sale - sure! And did I mention: Oh Yeah - red guards are HOT!!!

If I had to summarize this game using just one word, I'd say fun! Now, as with practically all point-and-click games, there were a few moments where I had to look up a guide to help me when I got stuck, but it only happened a few times. And, as I already said, it happens for me in pretty much every point-and-click game I play, so it wasn't that big of a deal to me. I'm just mentioning it to be thorough. Anyway, the story was interesting if a tad cliché, but not in a bad way. Overall I thought the game was cute. The humor was pretty on the nose and there were innuendoes aplenty, but it was clearly all in good fun. I found it all quite humorous and kind of charming in a way. Now for the cons. I really only have two and one of them isn't a con as much as it's something I wish was included in the game that wasn't. Firstly, the game is just a tad buggy. It's not game-breaking or anything but it is there. Secondly, there were quite a few things in the story that I felt were left unexplained. Or perhaps it's more that certain events and characters weren't given the attention they deserve. Such as the crew on the ship! I wanted to know more about them but nothing was really mentioned beyond the basics as to their station. Or perhaps the most important question, why did Tycho and Andy break up?! All unnecessary things in the grand scheme of things, but things that I want to know none the less! Sadly, I can see how someone could take the game too seriously and maybe even take offense given the blatancy and over-the-top manner in which the game presents itself. I personally think that's part of the charm. I think this is just a light-hearted and silly game meant to be fun and to broaden the selection of LGBT+ games out there for people to enjoy, and it does a good job of that. I can't say "don't take offense" because there's always going to be somebody who will... but I say just give it a chance. It's not an exceedingly long game or anything and you might just enjoy yourself! Surely you'd find at least one part to be fun.

The game is kinda nice, but it opens a console with an error message everytime I start it. If I close it, the game closes. I can go on if I leave the console open, but after a little while the commands don`t respond anymore. I searched for people with the same problem on the forums, and though there are many with the same problem, there seem to be no solution. A shame :/ UPDATE: The game had an update last week. I went to play full of hope, but old saves don't work anymore. And the commands still stop responding as before... I give up -_-'

Lots of cute guys. Funny innuendo. Humour. And a glimpse of a world in which gays are the norm, even if it's just an over-the-top fantasy. I like it. I encountered no bugs and was able to play it without a guide. If you expect voice acting, fluid animations and mind-boggling puzzles, this one isn't for you though. Btw. I played the complete game, but mostly offline :-)

I wouldn't normally recommend this, but visibility is important, the game is clunky AF and the humor is stale. If you find this on a sale and need to have an LGBTQI experience and protagonist then go for it and grab it. Only plays windowed, the animations (and humor) are stale and static and there are grammatical and syntactical errors too, be warned there is also moon logic in some of the puzzles.

It's a whimsical and fun affair filled with great looking boys and cheesy comments. A must play for a quick free afternoon accompanied with a gin-and-tonic.

I really wanted to play My Ex-Boyfriend the Space Tyrant for a long time. Sadly it did not meet my expectation at all. First of all, the game is very buggy. I experienced a self-moving mouse pointer and disappearing menus. Some action boxes were out of objects. The main protagonist walking through solid walls or walking in weird loops did not make a good impression too. I was also able to talk with characters that left the scene. Spooky. Secondly, visuals. the art was not bad, backgrounds were okay. I liked very much avatars of poeple the protagonist was talking with. I loved his expressions shown on his avatar. But the whole world was very still. Characters were very minimastically animated, and then it comes to cutscenes animations, they were horrible. As written in Key Features 'A superb blend of comedy, drama, romance and mystery' Well, I was expecting a game with lots of humor, adult jokes etc. There were few funny moments, indeed, but they did not make a comedy producion. Drama, romance and mystery (spoiler alert)... [spoiler]An important person dies and you are... He died. Whatever" [/spoiler] I liked the main protagonist, but I could not immerse into the world. As far as the story could be a good base, all the game flow lacked true emotions, it was very bland. As for a point & click game this one was easy. It is not a bad thing in my case since I do not have patience for looking for irrational solutions. Almost all actions were logical and I truly appreciate it. It is a short game too, but it is not a con either. Summarizing... I cannot recommend My Ex-Boyfriend the Space Tyrant. I bought it with a huge discount on a sale and the price was acceptable for the product I received. When it comes to its normal price is way too high.

UPDATE: look at the edit. Now it is a neutral one. This is so much wasted opportunity. The gay life it reflects comes directly from Queer As Folk, and in Queer As Folk it already felt like it was done 10 years too late. There is sexual innuendo and young muscled guys directly from David Decoteau fantasies (and almost all of them looking the same) but there is not one funny sex joke or even slightly riske. It includes drags for the sake of it without ever coughing at them and then includes awful looking lesbians to laugh at them. Really, I feel that even the Leisure Suit Larry games were way more respecful with the lgtb world. This is just a modern Rex Nebular. On the other hand some puzzles are very interesting. But the game is also buggy as hell. Though, again, it's not the bugs or the animations what is the worst of this: it is the writing and the general idea which is like a 90s softcore gay magazine for lonely people to mstrbte at. Cmon, it had all the prime material: cruise ships, resorts, discos, obsession with the dumbest camp, a lot of anal jokes... and it goes nowhere with them. Oh, the music is awful too. EDIT: surprisingly the developer rewrote the entire game, so right now the same thematic annoyances are there but the game is way more pleasant to play. Which is a lot for a game. But replaying it I felt the same: so many wasted opportunities for sexual innuendo between characters! It is clearly a game that wants to be a classic adventure focused on the adventure but also play with the young absolutely hairless almost anime like gay card. But so unevenly. So. Unevenly. I want to flirt! With everyone! Why cannot I! Why is this character a sexual object but does not show any even innocent flirting! Why do you show a joke about cruising in the bushes and do not go forward with it! So frustrating.
