Moss: The Forgotten Relic is a stunning adaptation of the two VR installments of the Moss series for the flat-screen world. The adventures of Quill - our main mouse protagonist - unfold in a stunning, fairy-tale world that’s a real treat for the eyes. The puzzle levels and enemies sometimes require focus and some thought, though the game’s overall atmosphere makes it the perfect title when you want to unwind and take a break from the daily hustle and bustle around you, joining Quill on a highly immersive adventure. The atmosphere is further enhanced by the beautiful music that accompanies the player from the very first moments, perfectly adapting to the surroundings and the action unfolding on the screen. Despite the absence of certain features that were strictly VR-specific, the new follow-cam feature more than makes up for it and allows you to fully enjoy the game.
BOOK 1 was decent, but BOOK 2 kicked it up a whole other notch! Also RIP to the ones either starting with BOOK 2 (like me), or thinking the game is only BOOK 2 cause the devs had the genius idea to set BOOK 2 as the default page in the main menu. Overall well worth the wait, super good game.
I love the Moss series. I first played books 1 & 2 in VR so I bought the flat version to help ensure we get more Moss games in the future. The flat version doesn't quite have the same immersive magical feeling of the VR versions but I appreciate they're bringing such a wonderful story to a broader audience. The gameplay appears nearly identical to the VR version which is why I'm reviewing with little playtime. The only downsides are immersion, the collectables being a bit harder to track down, and as the observer your movement feels a little bit more limited. While I still recommend the VR version this version is still very worth it for those without a headset. The world is beautiful and magical. The story breaks the 4th wall to make you feel like you're not just playing a story but actually part of it. I found myself growing quite fond of the little mouse. It's mostly a puzzle/platformer with some light combat that can be disabled. You are tasked with playing 2 rolls at once, the observer and the character. It makes for a relaxing yet engaging game that will leave you wanting more. The games don't have much going on beyond the main story, just some collectables, and they follow a linear story that if i remember correctly each take about 4-5 hours to complete. I would 100% pay full price for any version of this game and that's rare for me.
No Love for PC Gamers: Control with mouse / keyboard is a joke, no mention that you really need a controller to enjoy the game until "after" you purchase and then no way to REBIND any of the controls. (tiny print on store page says "devs recommend controller" should be required, try with a mouse and keyboard is a venture in pure frustration) Also, I have no experience with the Moss series so this is my first purchase, I started to play and then 2 hours into the game realized I was playing book 2, (the game starts on book 2 screen) it was not explained or obvious to me that there was another chapter I should complete first also if you start on book 2 there is no tutorial displayed for the controls or game play if your on a PC The graphics are great but the game play is very lazy, if your going to sell a game on a PC platform then you should accommodate those players or warn them "before" they purchase that a controller is best used. Really disappointed, I wanted to like this game
I will protect her from everything.
