https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2983752585
Runner Streams. I was given a key by HH-Games for streaming Morrok. This does not affect my review.
Looking at the store page, there's not a single mention of this game being a work in progress, episodic, released in chapters, or heck even a prologue... which I gotta be honest, rubs me the wrong way and screams scam to me!
Morrok's experience is vastly different from what is portrayed on the steam store page. Simply put: it's boring, uninteresting, short and incomplete. Most people who play this will get roughly 30 minutes out of it, unless you're like me and encounter a bug that doesn't allow re-examination of a hotspot, resulting in restarting the level. In that 30 minutes, you'll make your way through 9 chapters (rooms), all of which are pretty lackluster. Once the player finishes the final chapter, you're given a screen that says (and I quote) "Well done! You have successfully completed the first episode of the Morrok game! However, the adventure has not ended yet: there are still mysteries to solve and souls to liberate! See you soon in Morrok: The Castle Escape. Thanks for choosing our product!" ...... Uh huh. It's rich to call this a "3D Puzzle Adventure" as I wouldn't consider the mundane tasks in each room to be puzzles, more like obstacles. Pick up this item, pick up that, combine them, bring them here and use them on this. That's the gameplay loop. Even Hidden Object games have more puzzles in them! If you're playing on Hard difficulty, your cursor won't change when you look at things you can more closely inspect, whereas on Normal difficulty they will change to an eye symbol, that's the only difference. And although minimal, the interface is a bit dodgy when dragging items from your inventory (at the bottom of the screen) to the object you want to use them on. It'll only work when put on a specific spot and there's no indication of where that is! Very frustrating. Hints are USELESS, as all they do is tell you what you already know: "Get to the other side of this room." or "I should find a way to leave." No **** lmao. I'm so disappointed by this one. By how it's described on the store page.. it sounds really intriguing! And there's a SLIVER of plot at the beginning, told by the game's intro, that has the potential to lead somewhere but that's literally it! Even the tiniest bit of hope that's granted you, quickly fizzles out into nothing once you realize the whole game, or episode or whatever the heck this thing is, is a slog to get through and then abruptly ends with no resolution. False advertising + incomplete + intro plot goes nowhere + boring gameplay + buggy + not enjoyable at all AND short? Avoid it. I wouldn't recommend this even if it were free.
You are Rudolf. Rudolf Pasaret. A Detectiv in the Beginning of the 19th Century. And you have a Mystery to solve. Albert Vierre, a Philosophy Professor under murder suspect, is missing. So, are you ready to solve this Mystery? Then welcome to MORROK! MORROK is a First Person point and click Adventure. You click and the Camera is moving you to the Point of Interest. If you are not familar with this you can go to the Options and change it to teleporting instead of moving. You have fully Mouse Control and it is reversed like playing a Flight Simulator and no way of changing it. Anyway, i quickly got used to it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3056926332 You are starting in an typical old House entering the apartment of the Professor. His Landlady missed him and called for help. Soon you will find out where the Professor has been gone, because you find yourself somewhere in a Dungeon with some not so alive People. Magic is around. I will not tell you more, because it is a very short but exciting Story. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3056925761 The Graphics are really detailed and it catches the 19th Century Atmosphere very good. I love the Graphics. That goes also for the Sound that fits very well into this Atmosphere. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3056927984 So, what it is all about? You have to search for Clues and click on everything that seems to be interesting. Find Items and use them on the right Place. Escape! Yes, it is truly an Escape Game. It is really nice executed, but short, i played about 2 Hours but i think it can be also done in about 1,5 Hours, because i´m not the best "Escaper. XD You have to decide for yourself if it´s worth the Price or if you wait for a sale. But i really recommended it, because i have had very much fun with. A big thanks to the Developer Levgen and Roman, you made a really nice Game. Thanks. :-) And thank YOU for reading. Hach, die gute alte Studentenbude damals... Nostalgie pur und viele schöne Erinnerungen... ... aber puh... war das ein Chaos! Nie konnte man was finden, was natürlich nicht an der Unordnung lag oder weil man zu faul zum aufräumen war... ... nein nein! Schmökern for free: Also stell Dir nen Tee bereit und viel Spaß beim Lesen...
morrok is a disappointing and ridiculously overpriced 1-hour point & click escape room and it's not even the collector's edition, despite the first screen after starting the game and the end credits claiming so. no 'bonus' chapter with the actual ending missing this time, only a soundtrack, wallpapers, etc., so it's not a major issue for once, except for the blatant false advertising. everything on bigfish costs the same, already a horrible idea, and $20 for a collector's edition is insane, cut content or not, but bigfish sells butchered editions for $10 and it's $12 on steam for no reason (different publisher here, shouldn't matter, and at least I managed to talk them out of a $15 price tag). it was also broken on release, even though it's been on bigfish for more than a year, and some of the tutorial got removed. it didn't make sense to the developers because 'steam players are more experienced (and younger)'. sure, all 120 million of them (50 without bots), it's all a big children of the corn- or logan's run-inspired dystopia (or utopia based on your preferences). not to mention if they're so knowledgable about the players, why didn't they add achievements to the steam version? I don't care but there's already whining about it on the forum. it's been almost 2 months since release and the unnecessary damage still hasn't been undone, nor other bugs fixed. the story's about a detective detecting a missing persons case in olden times. 9 chapters, some very brief, mostly easy puzzles, occult shenanigans and whatnot. the biggest challenge is finding the items, not how to use them. it's not a hidden object game but certainly felt like one. and the whole thing looks the same, stone-walled rooms, dripping water, etc. no variety at all. hold left mouse to look around (no axis flip or other mouse settings, always annoying), left click to interact, drag items from the inventory to use them, right click zooms out. there are hints if you get stuck (keep pressing for more) and 2 ways to move around, walking and teleport, the latter gets rid of movement animations. nice. no mid-level saving, an instant dealbreaker, of course. there's chapter select at least and you can re-watch the intro. the text could've used another proofreading session (grammar, punctuation, missing hints) and after going from teleporter to teleporter without any narrative after the first room, the game ends with an underwhelming 'see you soon'. settings are resolutions, separate volumes, graphics quality, brightness (missing way too often), languages and a difficulty setting stuck on normal. it can only be changed to hard (no visual clues) when starting a new game and back and forth after. why would you do it like that and make it look like the game is bugged? which it is anyway. maybe they'll develop the 'sequel' with more care and hopefully more content. selling a game or story in 1-hour chunks (they will be standalone titles) for $10 each, let alone 12 or 20, even if bigfish and hh-games (steam publisher) are partially to blame, is not something to support. the least they could do is put 'episode 1' on the store page so people know what they're getting into.
Follow our Curator page, Summit Reviews , to see more high quality reviews regularly.
Morrok is an escape-room style point and click puzzle game. Its gameplay consists of walking around a series of locked dungeons, searching for keys, levers, gears and other knick-knacks, and using them on things in the environment to progress. Unfortunately, it’s also a prime example of the genre’s shortcomings, with easy, tedious puzzles that do more to test your patience than cleverness. The game is also incredibly short for its price, and can be completed in roughly an hour. But before I complain, let’s start with positives. I think the game looks really pretty, with a solid atmosphere and setting. Clearly, most effort went into modelling and designing the environments, but the sound design and animation are also quite competent. Every time you use an item on something, an animation will show the interaction, which is quite fun to look at. Unfortunately, that’s about it. The main issue with Morrok is that it adheres to what I call the “lock and key” style of puzzle design. It goes something like this: you find a key which opens a box, in which you find a crowbar that lets you pry open a drawer, in which you find a lever which opens a secret compartment, where you find a 4 digit code that lets you open a safe, and so on and so forth. Every object is, essentially, a “key” which opens the next “lock” - you find things to clear obstacles to find things. This kind of puzzle requires very little actual thinking on the part of the player, because which keys go into which locks is fairly obvious, and once you find the first key, the rest is basically a linear process. You never have to consider the order in which you perform actions, solve riddles or come up with creative ways to use items. The only real challenge, then, is finding the objects themselves, which can be quite annoying. With how decorated each interior is, which objects are interactable and which aren’t can feel very arbitrary, and you might get stuck for a while because you assumed a key item was part of the decor. It’s not exactly pixel-hunting, as the objects are usually quite visible, but they sorta camouflage themselves. What makes this significantly worse is the game’s movement system, which consists of switching between a number of pre-defined, standable spots. Some items can only be interacted with when you stand in the correct place. This is most egregious in Chapter IV, where a chain is clearly visible from two different places, but is only interactable from another, third spot. To top it off, the game’s writing can be best described as “obligatory”. It adds very little to the experience, and feels like it does the bare minimum to justify the puzzle gameplay. The protagonist you control is the most witless, laconic man imaginable. While other adventure games usually use non-interactable objects as an opportunity to have the character say something funny or interesting, in Morrok, you’ll just get plain, boring descriptions of whatever you’re looking at. This isn’t helped by the frequent grammar errors in the localisation: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3108730211 This game is supposed to be the first chapter of a series, but nothing set up here really makes me excited to see where the story or gameplay goes next. For a price of 12 euro, it’s far too short and simplistic to be worth it. If you really want to try it, get it on sale.
Horror point & click + atmospheric + hints = A decent 3D immersive puzzle. Find the keys and useful items in each room. Look high and low to cover the room.
Follow our curator for similar games
Morrok is a quest where you move through locations and solve puzzles. There's no action or "hiding in closets" here. Streamlined gameplay, move around the locations and do your thing. It can be a bit complicated, but where else would it be?)
