This is more enjoyable than you'd think. I enjoy the different areas to hunt for mushrooms, animals, and insects. Definitely need a level of patience, but worth it!
As good as the original. Lots of secrets and a few really nice improvements, with the mushroom and animal finders.
This game is just as great as the first. It has some unique aspects such as new mushrooms to find, new animals to photograph and new maps to search and explore. Two of the maps are very different such as the ocean map and the cave map.
All ages fun that is non violent while still keeping an element of surprise and excitement in finding the mystery animals among others object that can be photographed while out exploring. Easy to earn the points needed to buy special gear so that you can explore the areas. Including shoes that help you walk faster. Morels 2 also includes ability to swim where the first game did not. Lower system requirements than some games out there these days but settings, allow you to crank the visuals up if you have anything more than a half decent graphics card.
Morels: The Hunt 2 is a nature exploration and simulation game developed and published by Abrams Studios that focuses on the relaxing activity of mushroom hunting and wildlife photography. Rather than relying on fast-paced action or dramatic storytelling, the game offers a calm experience centered on exploring large natural landscapes and observing the environment. Inspired by the real-world hobby of searching for morel mushrooms in forests and rural areas, the game recreates the quiet excitement of discovering hidden fungi while wandering through scenic wilderness locations. By blending exploration with collection mechanics and photography, the game provides a gentle and immersive outdoor experience designed for players who enjoy slower, contemplative gameplay. The concept behind the game is based on the real practice of morel mushroom hunting. Morels are a type of edible mushroom known for their distinctive honeycomb appearance and their tendency to grow in specific forest conditions. Because they can be difficult to find in nature, the activity of searching for them has become a popular hobby among outdoor enthusiasts. Morels: The Hunt 2 recreates this experience by placing players in expansive environments where they must carefully scan the forest floor for mushrooms hidden among leaves, grass, and fallen branches. The challenge comes from learning where these mushrooms tend to grow and developing the patience needed to locate them. Players explore the world from a first-person perspective, which helps reinforce the feeling of actually walking through forests and fields. The environments are designed to encourage slow exploration, rewarding players who pay attention to their surroundings. Instead of following a linear path or completing combat missions, the player spends most of their time wandering through landscapes in search of mushrooms, animals, and other points of interest. This relaxed approach makes the experience feel closer to a digital hiking trip than to a traditional game. The game uses a seasonal structure that provides a sense of progression while still allowing open-ended exploration. Each season gives players a limited number of in-game days to explore different maps and collect mushrooms. During these days, players can choose where to travel and how to spend their time, creating a balance between free exploration and light strategic planning. Deciding which areas to visit and how long to search them becomes an important part of maximizing the number of discoveries made during the season. While mushroom hunting forms the central mechanic, the game also expands its scope through wildlife photography. Many of the environments are populated with animals that players can photograph using an in-game camera. Successfully capturing images of wildlife adds entries to a photo collection and provides additional points that contribute to player progression. This feature encourages players to observe their surroundings more carefully and adds another layer of interaction with the environment. Photographing animals also introduces a subtle element of skill. Players must approach animals carefully and position themselves to take a clear shot before the creature moves away. Different species appear in different environments, motivating players to explore every region of the game’s world in order to complete their photographic collection. Over time, players can build a large digital album documenting the animals they have encountered. Progression within the game is tied to a leveling system that reflects the player’s growing experience as a mushroom hunter and nature observer. Each mushroom discovered or photograph taken contributes to an experience pool that increases the player’s level. As the level rises, new features become available, including additional equipment and entries in the hunter’s manual that provide helpful information about the game’s environments and species. The equipment system allows players to improve their ability to explore the wilderness. Items such as rain gear, insect repellent, and better cameras can be purchased using the points earned through gameplay. These tools provide small but useful advantages that make exploration easier. For example, certain equipment helps reduce fatigue during long excursions, while other items make it easier to photograph animals or search for mushrooms in difficult conditions. Transportation options are also introduced as players progress. While early exploration is done entirely on foot, later upgrades allow the use of vehicles such as horses or all-terrain vehicles to travel more quickly across the large maps. These additions help players cover greater distances and reach remote areas that might otherwise take a long time to explore. Environmental immersion is one of the game’s strongest features. Each map represents a different natural region, and the landscapes include forests, mountains, wetlands, and open fields. The environments are filled with natural details such as trees, streams, rocks, and vegetation that create the feeling of being surrounded by living ecosystems. Players often find themselves slowly moving through these landscapes while scanning the ground for mushrooms hidden in the undergrowth. Dynamic weather conditions add further realism to the environments. Rainstorms, fog, and shifting daylight conditions can alter how the world looks and feels. These changes not only affect visibility but also influence the overall atmosphere of exploration. Searching for mushrooms during a misty morning or a rainy afternoon can create a very different experience compared to walking through a sunlit forest. The game also includes a variety of hidden objects and collectibles that encourage players to explore thoroughly. Beyond mushrooms and animals, players may occasionally discover unusual artifacts or mysterious items scattered throughout the environments. These discoveries add a sense of curiosity and reward careful exploration. In some cases, the game even introduces elements of folklore and mystery by including rare mythological creatures that players may encounter while exploring. These unusual appearances provide surprising moments that contrast with the otherwise realistic nature of the game’s setting. Finding one of these creatures can feel like uncovering a hidden secret within the wilderness. The visual presentation focuses heavily on natural landscapes. Trees sway gently in the wind, sunlight filters through forest canopies, and bodies of water reflect the surrounding scenery. The overall aesthetic emphasizes tranquility and encourages players to appreciate the environment rather than rush through it. While the graphics are not designed to compete with large open-world games, they successfully create convincing and peaceful outdoor spaces. Sound design contributes significantly to the immersive quality of the experience. Instead of relying on dramatic music, the game often emphasizes ambient environmental sounds such as birds calling, insects buzzing, and wind moving through leaves. These natural sounds help reinforce the sense of being alone in a quiet wilderness. The pacing of the game is intentionally slow, which may not appeal to everyone. Players who prefer action-heavy gameplay or constant challenges might find the experience too relaxed. However, for players who enjoy exploration and discovery, the slow pace becomes one of the game’s greatest strengths. Overall, Morels: The Hunt 2 offers a distinctive experience that celebrates the joy of exploring nature. By focusing on mushroom hunting, wildlife photography, and peaceful exploration, Abrams Studios created a game that stands apart from most mainstream titles. It may not deliver the excitement of combat-driven adventures, but it succeeds in capturing the quiet pleasure of searching through forests and appreciating the beauty of the natural world. Rating: 8/10
As the cold rain comes down through dark skies here in the great Pacific Northwest, I long for the days of mushroom foraging to come once again. It's not only the mushroom discovery I crave, but being there in the deep woods of the exotically beautiful rain forests nearby. And then I find Morels: The Hunt 2. It is quite rare for me to find a game in which time evaporates, and you get in the flow of being in the game. But it is here. I play on a very high end gaming system with a ultra wide screen monitor, and the game plays very well with both - no black side bars, so you get full resolutions. As for glitches, they are quite infrequent. Of the many games I possess, Morels: The Hunt 2 may quickly become my go-to game for fun and relaxation. Onward!
If you liked the first version, you should like this one. It seems to be the same game play as the first, but gives us some new maps to explore.
So relaxing and realistic, I wish there was more point to collecting stuff as I love collecting stuff but this is currently my favourite chill game.
I love this game. You can really feel how much love and care went into making it. It's not the most polished game on the market, but since it's made by a single dev on a tiny budget I really don't hold that against it. It does a really good job of making sure you want to keep going out and gathering mushrooms by giving you a ton of goals to reach and ways to improve, and makes sure those goals and improvements have a satisfying payoff. I like it it's good
Całkiem przyjemna gra dla fanów eksploracji. Fotograficzne polowania dają frajdę, tak samo poszukiwania grzybów, to fajna odskocznia od bardziej angażujących tytułów. Same mapy są różnorodne i ciekawie rozbudowane.
