I've played a lot of roguelike deckbuilders, and Monster Train 2 sets the standard that every other game in the genre should be measured against. For new players, the game is quite approachable. The mechanics introduced are fairly intuitive. Within your first few runs you'll understand the fundamentals. But don't mistake "easy to learn" for "easy to master." Once the game opens up, the ceiling becomes almost limitless. You will have runs and discover cards that you feel are broken, only to discover a new combo that pales in comparison Every clan feels distinct, yet the game constantly encourages experimentation by combining them in ways that create unique synergies. Champions, spells, and artifacts all interact so naturally that almost every run feels like you're discovering something new. Instead of forcing you toward a handful of overpowered strategies, Monster Train 2 rewards creativity. Your ability to recognize interactions and build around them becomes the true skill cap. The diversity of viable win conditions is probably the most distinct difference from the original (Still an awesome game) You can win by creating an unstoppable solo-carry, spamming units, stacking absurd status effects, abusing spell loops, or inventing some ridiculous combination that feels like it shouldn't be allowed. Every successful run feels earned because it was a solution you came up with. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment of Monster Train 2 is that failure rarely feels unfair. I've never felt that RNG dictated an outcome This is one of those rare sequels that doesn't simply add more content—it refines nearly every system from its predecessor while preserving everything that made the original great. The replayability borders on endless because every run presents new opportunities to experiment. For me, Monster Train 2 is the golden standard for roguelike deckbuilders.
got the gist
actually awesome
