This is an Early Access game that decided to pretend it was complete. It's not, and it straight up tells you so after a certain point. Decent mechanics, solid execution, a good idea behind it all, but I don't give a thumbs up to dishonesty.
Pretty frustrated end-user here. I was really enjoying this, and then it up and left me. No indication anywhere in-game that it's not finished until BAM - this is all we have for now, thanks for playing our non-early access game. I now know the dev updates make this clear, but they're buried in posts not on the front page. I'll update this after the game is finished, but the devs never should have taken this out of early access. No matter how fun something is (and this was fun) I can't recommend something that looks finished that isn't.
I will start by saying I played less then an hour... Cons: The map is terrible. You cant look back at previous areas that I could find. The doors from the rooms arent marked. Items you can collect arent marked. There is no mini map. The stamina melee based combat isnt fun. I realize this is a subjective opinion. However, when fighting more than one enemy it doesnt feel "difficult" it feels unfair. Your character moves really slowly (perhaps this upgrades later, I dont know) Save points can be a little far apart There is forced fall damage. It is a very small amount of damage but there were several places at the beginning of the game you are forced to jump down and take fall damage. Pros: If you are into the pixel art style it is well done. I still love metroidvanias! Perhaps I will give it more of a try later but at this point I cant recommend it. If you are looking for a good metroidvania I recommend Environmental Station Alpha, Axiom Verge, or Ori and the Blind Forest
BUILD: Beta 1.0.2 Momento Temporis is a metroidvania 2D action adventure platformer featuring pixel-art graphics. Explore the world and learn spells, fight bosses and lots more in this magical universe. The game was made by Burning Ice Games and published by 501 Industries. I received the game for free after writing a feedback article on another 501 game; Pro Gamer Manager. I was then sent the Steam code for the game and after watching the trailers I couldn't wait to get to play it, I downloaded it as soon as I could and gave it a try. I haven't got very far into the game yet but in my experience the game has been very good; the soundtrack is rather good and the gameplay it self is pretty good too, I personally love the combat system and how simple but challenging the game is; it takes what classic platforming should be and makes it great; keeping the retro feel while it's at it. I haven't got into any big puzzles that the game promises yet or faced any of the bosses and I can't wait to get further into the game to see some of those things. Personally I love the graphic style. The 8-bit graphic style makes the game run on any PC and is still very attractive while doing so. The retro style is also attractive to almost everyone; older gamers love that the retro feel is there and younger gamers can get straight into it as the gameplay is easy to play and looks great too. The one thing that I absolutely loved was the 8-bit lens flare which occured when I was playing. It looked amazing and it just sums up why I love the style. One notable thing is that the game throws you straight into the deep end as it currently features no tutorial. This left me a little confused when playing the game as I had to look at the controls before I could get straight into it. I was also stuck when the character (who I haven't learnt much about yet) talks at the very start of the game; a little "Press () to continue" would be nice so that people didn't have to go through every key. Of course, remember that this game is currently in Beta. I will most likely come across bugs while I play but these will surely be fixed in the future when the game is fully released. I currently recommend this game as it's a great 2D platformer which is sure to evolve in the future. The price is a bit high and I'm not sure if I would pay 7.99 while it is still in Beta but I would 100% pay full price in the future when the few issues are fixed and more things are added. Pros: - Loveable 8-bit graphics - Classic and great gameplay; great combat system - Awesome platforming mechanics Cons: - Needs a more in-depth tutorial - Throws you straight into the deep end In conclusion, I can't wait to play more of this game and see it evolve. Good job so far!
Love it, the map also have many secret areas to find https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTf1eyW0Ojk
This is a Review Coming from someone who is completely new to this Genre. I recieved a Free key on Keymailer and decided to give it a go. In it's current state I would not recommend this to other players who dont play this game. However, I would recommend it to the Metroidvania lovers out there if it came into conversation. I wasn't quite sure what I was doing at the start and I just decided to move forward... Kicking and punching anything in my path. This, however got quite boring after some time and I wondered when I would be getting to any kind of equipment, special skills or story progression. It felt to me like the mechanics were a bit slow to react at points but I could see the work that had been put into the game and appreciated it. I did like the style of the game but it reminded me of other much more popular titles and instead making me wonder if I should be playing them and not this. As said before I can't give an indepth review due to my recent introduction to this type of game but i hope they could maybe make it a bit more friendly for the Noob such as myself. Pros: Looks Nice. Soundtrack is OK. Cool Slow-down kills. Cons: Not Welcome to Newer Players in the genre. Clunky Controls at times. No Tutorial. Equipment or Magic, not easily found. No Direction. Female Protagonist Looks like she has a Moustache.
A Metrovania Action Adventure Game
https://youtu.be/UEUpldpaEwY + The combat system is surprisingly enjoyable. It's very similar to a brawler as you punch, kick, block, and dodge while being ever watchful of your energy meter to not get staggered. + The levels themself are pretty huge with MANY rooms to find and explore + Visually the game looks pretty good with pixel-art sprites, similar to games like Terraria or Starbound + Good background music and ambient sounds This game is in early access so these are subject to change - The game currently lacks a story or any clear sense of direction. You suddenly appear in this world and tell yourself "I should find someone to talk to"...after traveling all over I could not find anyone to talk to, and still don't understand where I am or where I'm going. The objective is unclear. - Most enemies in the game can be easily skipped or jumped over. Stopping to fight enemies is often unrewarding as they rarely drop health. (Suggestions: Make enemies drop coins to buy items at a shop, or perhaps earn experience to increase your hp / stamina meters)
I'll start off by saying I haven't really been able to play much of the game since I got stuck at the first boss, 15 minutes in, so take what I say with that in mind. The game has an ok art style (like terraria or other similar games) but a tad worse. The music is nice. I would recommend changing from the default controls as they're arrange rather awkwardly. The tutorial could be a bit better explained, with perhaps button promts explaining what to do, I had to learn the game from the controls menu. My issue with the game and why I got stuck is the controls. A lot of the combat is down to timing. You hit combos and the last of the 3 hit does the most damage. This uses up adreniline and a single 3 hit combo will use up nearly all your stamina. Meaning you can't get away if there's multiple enemies as you slow down when you have low stamina. The main part to avoid being hit is a dash/dodge button which (as default) is left ctrl or hold down and press jump, the latter being what the tutorial says. Which often means you will jump instead of dashing and therefore take a hit. But it gets worse. You dodge/dash away in the opposite way to the way you're facing. Or you could try running away from an enemy, in which case if you then dodge you'll go into the enemy. Or if you're already facing the wrong way, you need to walk into the enemy to then dodge away. I couldn't get my brain to decide whether to run or to dash, and would end up getting confused and frustrated and taking hit after hit. This is where I gave up with the game. There's apparently inventory management, but I didn't get that far. There's also spells and doors to come back to after you unlock abilities, but again I didn't get that far.
Bad game that explain the feeling i had playing it, together with regreat of the purchase don't buy it....not worth
I think I found most areas in the game so far and can say I am looking forward to the final release - well next update as it turns out. The game difficulty is quite high but not impossibly so for an average gamer like me. Using an xbox controller I had not difficulty with the controls or their responsiveness. The exploring was great and I like the fact that rewards/abilities you recieved were not necessarily anywhere near where you needed to use them nor was it always immediatly obvious what they were for. There is alot of backtracking but that is fine and all part of the exploration and finding those secrets. Some rewards were very disappointing for the effort in obtaining them, I health potion for all that effort/backtracking - really! - but I am hoping this will be rectified in the full release.
