This tale demands more depth. It needed more time devoted to developing its world and characters. With greater care in these areas, the result could have been a deeply harrowing and emotionally powerful story. As it stands, Milky Way Prince feels like a significant missed opportunity. Milky Way Prince: The Vampire Star employs an experimental visual style to tackle a subject that is difficult to address, and while it succeeds in communicating its themes, the experience often feels hollow and overly forceful. Most of the game’s meaningful content is packed into its opening hours, leaving little of substance beyond that point. While I appreciated the artistic ambition and thematic focus, the execution makes it hard to recommend.
Uncomfortably accurate depiction of what its like to be emotionally close with someone who has BPD or an adjacent disorder, to the point that specific details i had assumed were unique to my experience were captured and relayed back to me perfectly. The atmosphere of the game is really good. The dialogue is very natural and realistic imo. I highly recommend this to anyone willing to spend an hour or two to play it through.
It made me cry, it represents my situation and i relate to nuki sm, especially at the end, where i 'found' myself, trying to stay positive i guess. it reminds me of that book the little prince sm, the art story and all. It turned dark pretty quickly too, i expected something lighter, nonetheless i reccommend it, you just need to learn to let people go and go on with your life.
Milky Way Prince – The Vampire Star is an emotionally intense visual novel that explores toxic love, emotional dependency, psychological instability, and the painful complexity of abusive relationships through a deeply personal and artistic narrative. Rather than presenting romance as comforting escapism or idealized fantasy, the game focuses on the darker emotional realities of obsession, manipulation, loneliness, and self-destruction. The experience is often uncomfortable, emotionally exhausting, and deliberately intimate, creating a narrative that feels more like a confessional emotional art piece than a traditional visual novel. The story follows Nuki, a lonely and emotionally vulnerable young man fascinated by astronomy and fantasy, who becomes involved with Sune, a charismatic but deeply unstable individual carrying severe emotional trauma and destructive behavior patterns. Their relationship begins with intense attraction and emotional fascination, but gradually transforms into something increasingly unhealthy and psychologically damaging. What makes the story particularly effective is that the game never romanticizes this deterioration. Instead, it carefully shows how emotional abuse can become difficult to recognize when mixed with affection, dependency, loneliness, and the desperate need for connection. One of the game’s greatest strengths is the emotional authenticity of its writing. Conversations between Nuki and Sune constantly shift between tenderness, fear, affection, cruelty, intimacy, and emotional manipulation in ways that feel painfully believable. The relationship feels unstable almost immediately, yet the game effectively communicates why Nuki becomes emotionally trapped despite obvious warning signs. Rather than relying on exaggerated melodrama, the narrative captures the subtle confusion and emotional contradictions that often exist inside destructive relationships. Sune is especially memorable because the game refuses to reduce him into a simple villain. He is manipulative, emotionally volatile, and frightening at times, but he is also portrayed as deeply damaged and emotionally fragile. Likewise, Nuki’s emotional dependence and idealization of the relationship feel realistic rather than naïve. This nuanced approach gives the story far more emotional impact because both characters feel painfully human despite the surreal presentation surrounding them. Visually, the game is stunning. The art direction uses abstract imagery, surreal environments, minimalistic colors, and dreamlike visual compositions to represent emotional states rather than literal reality. Neon pinks, black shadows, harsh lighting, and fragmented environments dominate the presentation, creating a world that feels emotionally unstable and psychologically fractured. Many scenes resemble interactive gallery installations rather than conventional visual novel backgrounds, giving the game a visual identity unlike almost anything else in the genre. The soundtrack is equally impressive and plays a major role in shaping the emotional atmosphere. Soft piano melodies, ambient electronic sounds, and emotionally heavy musical themes constantly reinforce the psychological tone of each scene. The music often feels melancholic and intimate, but it can also become deeply uncomfortable during moments of emotional tension and manipulation. The audio design supports the narrative beautifully without overwhelming the dialogue or emotional pacing. Gameplay remains fairly simple overall, following the structure of a traditional visual novel with dialogue choices and branching emotional paths. However, the game introduces unusual mechanics tied to sensory perception and emotional focus. During intimate moments, players choose which senses Nuki focuses on while interacting with Sune, subtly influencing emotional interpretation and relationship dynamics. These mechanics are not especially complex, but they reinforce the game’s themes surrounding distorted emotional perception and unhealthy attachment in meaningful ways. Another remarkable aspect of Milky Way Prince is how personal the entire experience feels. The game carries an unmistakable sense of emotional sincerity, as if the creator is directly expressing painful personal experiences through interactive storytelling. This honesty gives even the more surreal and abstract moments genuine emotional weight. The story often feels raw and vulnerable in ways many visual novels avoid entirely. The atmosphere becomes increasingly oppressive as the relationship deteriorates. Moments that initially seem romantic gradually reveal themselves as emotionally manipulative or psychologically dangerous once the player begins understanding the deeper dynamics between the characters. The game creates emotional discomfort not through horror mechanics but through painfully realistic emotional behavior. Some scenes become genuinely difficult to watch because of how convincingly the narrative portrays emotional dependency and manipulation. Despite its strengths, the game is not without flaws. The abstract storytelling and symbolic presentation occasionally become too vague, making certain emotional transitions or narrative moments difficult to interpret clearly. Some scenes prioritize emotional symbolism over narrative clarity, which may frustrate players looking for more straightforward storytelling. The relatively short runtime also limits how deeply some ideas and emotional developments can be explored. While the central relationship receives strong focus, certain secondary themes and character dynamics feel slightly underdeveloped due to the concise structure. The gameplay itself is also fairly passive. Outside of dialogue decisions and sensory interactions, most of the experience revolves around reading and absorbing atmosphere rather than interacting with complex systems. Players looking for deeper gameplay mechanics or highly branching narratives may find the experience mechanically limited. The emotional subject matter may also be overwhelming for some audiences. The game deals heavily with abuse, trauma, emotional instability, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and toxic dependency in ways that feel intentionally uncomfortable. This is not a relaxing or emotionally uplifting visual novel. Instead, it often feels emotionally draining by design. What ultimately makes Milky Way Prince – The Vampire Star so memorable is its emotional honesty. The game refuses to simplify toxic relationships into easy morality lessons or dramatic clichés. Instead, it presents love as something capable of becoming destructive, confusing, addictive, and psychologically devastating when filtered through trauma and emotional vulnerability. That sincerity gives the experience extraordinary emotional power. Milky Way Prince – The Vampire Star is a visually stunning and emotionally raw visual novel that explores abusive relationships and psychological instability with remarkable honesty and artistic ambition. Its surreal presentation, deeply personal writing, and emotionally intense atmosphere create an unforgettable experience that feels far more intimate and psychologically unsettling than most narrative games. While its abstract storytelling and difficult subject matter will not appeal to everyone, it remains one of the more unique and emotionally powerful visual novels released in recent years.
