I've sank over 50 hours into this game. It's a wonderful way to work out and it may be the best racket sport VR game. The fact that a new kind of racket sport was created specifically for VR speaks volumes, and I gotta give Resolution Games credit for that. They took into account the limits of people's spaces in VR and created a fun sport! They tackled a very difficult problem - making a fast-paced multiplayer VR sports game. However... I'm not a professional tennis or pickeball player, but played varsity tennis in high school. If you are a tennis / pickleball player and are looking for something realistic to scratch that itch when you're not playing outdoors, this game might do it, but I'd say hold off for the following reasons: * Online play should account for regions and ping. Just showing the status of someone's connection is not enough. There should be courts for regions, not just a general room for everyone globally. On a side note, there should also be courts only for ranked or only for practice. Balls from opponents can teleport due to bad ping, leaving you with less time to react. Even with bad ping, an opponents swing will appear choppy, making it difficult to predict shots. A bad connection can also show that a ball bounces twice on the opponents side, making you think the point is over, but it truly isn't. These uncertainties lead to confusing and frustrating play. * The spin physics is unrealistic and broken in online play. There are some guaranteed aces and ground strokes due to spin. The amount of spin and power is also locked behind top tier rackets, which although easy to get, doesn't make much sense. Combine that with the ball speed and online play, and you can game the system and hit unreturnable shots. I would be ok with the unrealistic spin if online play was smooth, but it isn't. I'd say my internet is good enough for online fighting games, too. Don't get me wrong, VR is certainly more complex, but maybe the technology for online play just isn't there yet. * Given the above online and physics problems, maybe I can just play locally against AI. But the AI is bad. Sure the "world tour" bots can get almost every ball you hit at them, but they are still so dumb. They can't hit shots like humans do. The only other way is to use the in-game ball machine. It can pull off some human shots, but it's mainly for practice and it's not as fun. * Updates for the Steam version has lagged behind the Meta Quest version. When an update occurs, expect maybe 3-5 days when Steam players cannot play online. The delay in updating isn't too bad, but it would be nice if everybody got the update at the same time. Maybe I can "git gud" and learn to play with broken mechanics, but I'd be more than happy to play tennis / pickleball against people who pull off these spins in Racket Club, and let's see them try to pull this off IRL. They most definitely can't. Go create Racket Club IRL and show me this is realistic.
0 Support for Index controllers. Wanted to play this with my friends but lucky me... devs dont let you because its broken.Such BS
Really well made Racket ball game! Id describe this as a mix between tennis and squash, like half the tennis court, but enclosed like squash so you can use the walls to bounce your shots... something like that. Never played this in real life (did play some tennis), but the rules are easy to understand, got the hang of them really quick. The game feels pretty satisfying. ball physics are juust right. Single player Vs Bots is ok, but they dont feel like... like individual players, they feel as the same bot with different skins... no difference between the bot placed on last place vs the top one... I know, thats just practice for online mode, still id like more of a career mode for people that prefer single player experience. At the time of writing this, Its pretty easy to find online matches, either by walking into the "clubs" or by choosing quick match, there are some REALLY good players, but nice community, i did encounter some trolling kids that kept throwing balls into my game distracting everyone playing. But other than that a pleasant experience! Its been a while since ive played a game that made me hit my walls, so... you know watch out! Recommended for anyone wanting a sports game that feels like the real thing!
This game is completely broken for the Valve Index controllers. The light pointer that is supposed to select something constantly disappears with the Index controllers. You also cannot access the in-game menu with the Index controllers because no button opens it, not even the touch pads. There also doesn't seem to be a way to play a single game solo against the AI without starting a full tournament. Everything about this game also seems heavily focused on multiplayer. There is also no way to recenter your play space inside the game and Steam recenter places you out of the map underneath the court. You also need a good size play area because you will need to step around quite a bit to return shots. Overall, I am not impressed with this game and I therefore cannot recommend it.
Barely got to play before refunding. I have and HTC VIVE and the controller tool tips teaching you how to play are for some other controller I don’t have. Meaning I have to push random buttons to figure out controls. This game disables the ability to see your wall when you are in a match. I have no idea where my walls are because for some reason it disables the steam wall boundary. Which is super important because the court is not lined up with my room at all, and there is no way to change it. You would think the game would make facing forward in the court match up to where forward is calibrated in steam vr, but you would be wrong. I have plenty of space in my room to swing my arms around, but the game insists on placing the center of the court right next to the wall, and facing it, making it unplayable. While trying to figure this out, I noticed when the ball hit the racket, it did the animation for the ball bouncing off the racket, but actually the ball moved through the racket. After I saw that, I thought, “this is the one thing a tennis game needs to do. You had one job, hit ball with racket, and you can’t even do that!” 20 minutes of fumbling around with this poorly ported piece of trash and I decided I am not willing to deal with a cash grabbing scam. All you people on here with perfect reviews must play this on the devices they tested it with because my ♥♥♥♥ is not working.
Does not work with Quest 3. Stuck at at the beginning. Unable to change position in court. Totally unplayable
Please 1.4 version update Multiplayer doesn't work
Doesn't work with any controllers except quest until Feb.15 update. This 100% should have been day one, plus the button to pull up the menu is mapped to the stick button. This has been asked for since day 1. Will change when I can play the game. EDIT After a while of playing I started to enjoy the game to an extent, but the issues of lag and the fact that this type of game requires a crazy huge playspace that I assume less than 5% of players can really play the game without noticing their playspace being small at times, really got to me. Also recently the devs have decided not to update the game to the newest version for almost a week now, while it has been updated on quest. This makes the game unplayable for pcVR untill it gets updated. Another thing is my choice of word "decided", because the devs do have the ability and the knowledge to update the game, but choose not to. As a unity dev who has worked on VR projects I know the amount of effort to port a game from playform to platform. Its about 4 button clicks and a few minutes of loading. Thats it. Now its possible there is something I dont know about that makes it harder in this case like they arnt using openXR for some reason, or their multiplayer solution broke with the 2 versions for some reason or something like that. But in the end it doesn't matter. You cant take something I own, break it and me be ok with that. I have never seen a game EVER do this and its terrible. Plus the fact that you can release this update at any time, so you could have just waited until you got it finished for pcVR before releasing it to all versions, but they decided instead to break my game intentionally. I have also asked on the discord and got a response that said it would take until a specific day (about 4 days) and it is currently that day + 1.
A lot of potential but too arcadey...A racket game should't have such unrealistic spins...The ball has bad physics and a lot of network problems...Nice idea with the club to socialise with others....
this game is insanely good
