The second of a series of five games here on steam, Salem Witch Trials is a very enjoyable classic HOG game, with good HOG scenes as well as some fun puzzles. The artwork is very pleasing to the eye and makes for great atmosphere. The sound is good as well, all keeping with the theme/atmosphere. There is one major, but fixable, problem with the game, the achievements do not work unless you peruse the forums for the game and find a thread about how to get the achievements to work. It's fairly easy and should be a quick fix. Most of the achievements do not unlock until you have finished the game. There are also two Easter egg puzzles built into the main game. Bonus game achievements are included in the 14 total achievements, too. With a very good story that you can keep track of as well as the atmospheric graphics I highly recommend this game as well as the series, I have played 3 of the 5 so far.
There is a lot to complain when it comes to this hidden object game: - the achievements don't work unless you switch to a beta branch of the game - some items in the hidden object scenes have weird descriptions - minigames are really easy - personally I am not a big fan of the art style - you missed one collectable right at the beginning of the game without realizing? Tough luck, you gotta replay the whole game again. Works fine with Proton (7.0-3).
I guess the title is taken from one of the action-adventure-thriller novel of salem with trials. Having played the game naturally increased my curiosity to research more on the internet about the same because the real story remained unaware for me before I played the game. So the events of the game is as per the events of salem witch trials which were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than two hundred people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, nineteen of whom were executed by hanging (fourteen women and five men). One other man, Giles Corey, was pressed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail. You as a detective is meant to serve justice to all those poor souls re-imagining the same story and the chain of events until the women named Sarah good and her daughter dorothy are sent for hanging , by interchanging the witch mark to the accused punishing the innocent in their otherworldly haunted soul form eventually freeing the spirit of women to escape the haunted form peacefully. Try this game and if you have read salem witch trials before, this hidden-object game serves the purpose well, finally curtailing the plot with the best possible verdict and giving the audience a moment of exhilaration with the revenge we all want to see.
Superb! Absolutely loving it! A casual Hidden Object game with realistic graphics. Play as a detective with medium powers to solve the case of the mysterious death of Nathaniel Hawthorne. Action takes place in the Puritan times of Salem, Massachusetts. PROS: - Realistic graphics with chilling visuals and eerie music / sounds; - Gorgeous hand-drawn map; - Detailed journal that shows the mind of the protagonist; - Diverse puzzles; - Crows and shamrock collectibles that unlock HO minigames after Story Mode ends; - Extra content with deleted scenes, character designs; - Easter Eggs within Story Mode (does something in the Extras). CONS: - Hint is limited; - Hint doesn't work on it's own (you got to associate it with an item in the inventory); - In-game Achievements do not appear in the Steam Achievements section. If it's a rainy day outside or you'd feel like diving into American Literature, be sure to find out who is behind Nathaniel Hawthorne's death. Was it the witches' curse, was it the Unionists, was it the Native tribe? You will have to figure it out.
Firstly, the story of this HOG is a bit weird. It's good and I did enjoy it, but it definitely is on the weirder side of HOG stories. It feels like the MC was going down one hole after another hole after another hole. By the end of the game, I had forgotten what the main point of the story was, but it was still an enjoyable ride. The very beginning also felt like you just kinda get thrown into the story, so not sure if playing the first Midnight Mysteries would help with that as I didn't play that yet. The graphics weren't overly bad or great. There isn't any voice acting, either. There is also no difficulty settings and no way to skip scenes or the tutorial. The game mechanics were also interesting. I did like the related pairs HO scene, but I believe there was only one of them in-game? So it would have been nice to have more variety like that thrown into the game. I wasn't really a fan of the riddles thrown into the HO scenes. It makes the HO scenes harder for no reason, especially for people who may not be native English speakers. For example, one HO scene used "up the creek", which is only part of an idiom that not everyone may have heard/understood. I also didn't like that there is no way to distinguish items on the HO lists that require more than one click to find (like the items hidden in a drawer). It would have been nice to have some kind of visual clue, but I was still able to find the items either way. The only bug I had in-game was the fact that the current version has broken steam achievements, so playing the game on the beta branch is the only way around the issue. Overall, despite some of my dislikes of the game mechanics, I did like this game. If you've never played HOGs before, I would suggest starting out with a different one. However, if you're a fan of HOGs, I'd try this one out. It's definitely worth your time.
Fun simple puzzle game, but it's buggy. Achievements don't work unless you choose an [achievements] build from Betas men, and that version is also broken (game keeps minimizing randomly) and doesn't have Steam overlay. other than that, I had fun with it
GG.
Storywise the game is fine, yet mechanics wise it has some serious issues 1. Achievements don't work without a beta build 2. Clicks in HO scenes get counted even if you open a journal(triggering anti random clicking protection) 3. Game tries to use simple riddles instead of some item names in the scenes. They aren't of the bast quality so in the end they just make it more confusing and introduce an unnecessary language barrier for people less fluent in English 4. Save gets deleted once you finish the game not allowing you to unlock optional elements even if you had the proper items collected, just did not combine them. Game isn't really bad, I just can't recommend a game with so many bugs and requiring a beta build to unlock some features when there are plenty of other HOGs available, which just work.
