Metro Awakening is one of those games that makes me wish I could leave a Neutral review on Steam. There is fun to be had here but, and that's a big but, the game is very flawed. Let me start by saying that it outstays its welcome massively. Maybe that wouldn't be a problem if the game had something new and unique to offer every now and then, but it doesn't. By the time you finish chapter 2 (out of 12) you have pretty much seen 90% of assets that this game has to offer. Not only do you run through previous levels again for story reasons, but even when you don't, it feels like you are since even the new locations look very similar to the places you've already visited. The enemies are super tedious to deal with, especially the spiders and lurkers. At some point I just decided to simply through through the spiders cause they are annoying to deal with. And for lurkers I just crouch in a corner and line them up one by one until they are all dead. Now for weapons, I have never played a VR game that made me feel like a Stormtrooper from the Star Wars franchise. No matter how much I aim, hold weapons with both hands for stability and so on, my bullets always go somewhere else. Maybe that's supposed to be for immersion cause everything is old and salvaged? I don't know, but the guns in this game are not fun to use. The sounds are fine, but even they have issues. A lot of times you have an ambient track that rises to a crescendo like you are about to be jump scared or something big is going to happen, but nope you are just exploring and looting. It happens so many times and I am not sure why. Texture pop-in is also a huge issue. Even though I cranked the graphics to the maximum levels, I constantly kept seeing enemies with blocks for heads that only renders properly once I am more or less a meter away from them. The game is buggy overall as well. Not slav jank levels of buggy, but close to it. The VR mechanics are fun. I enjoyed the backpack, weapon pack, cleaning the visor, holding weapons with both hands, reloading. It's all nice buuuuuuuuut (yes, I know), the immersion is broken so fast because everything is nailed or glued down to the surface it is at. So many objects feel like you can pick them up and examine them. But you can't. You can only pick up ammo, bottles and cans. Everything else? Nailed down. And lastly, the story. Eh, I am gonna forget about the plot by the time I press "Post review". So yeah, there is fun to be had here. But you need to lower your standards. Do not expect this game to be one of the greats.
People were WAY too harsh on this game and I feel like cause of that we'll NEVER game a similar Metro VR game cause of it. Such a shame..
Great game, I loved playing the previous games and loved the books. It's nice to see the backstory of Khan. My only gripe with the game is the lack of interactability with objects in the game, the graphics also bothered me as they looked really good in videos and in pictures but in game look like crap on max settings
This is a good top tier VR game. Recommend!
Makes me nauseous. Controls are inconsistent which leads to frustration. Enemies move around way too fast with jank animations, especially some of the monsters.
so scary i need a therapy session every time i go off the game.
i cannot play it without VR ""-----""((
One of the best VR games i've played. Not only is the gameplay great, but the story, horror and atmosphere is also fantastic.
