Metro Awakening
Also stellenweise.
If you can get this on sale I would recommend it, barely. Apart from the equipement and weapons models, the game is half-good at everything. Gun handling is cumbersome, the pace is very uneven and don’t look too close at the textures. I thought my headset was out of focus until I realized that it was the textures playing tricks. For a pc vr game I found myself being mostly annoyed at how poor the visuals were instead of paying attention to where I was or what I was doing. The gameplay loop is very predictable and most enemies are so stupid it hurts. None of the enemies are scary, the environment is generic, copy-pasted and boring. You have seen everything after the first chapter. After I completed the game I revisited some ”named-brand” YT reviewers release videos. If they’re not paid by the devs, the only thing I can think of is thier anxiousness to keep this VR gaming wreck above water, because there is no way this game comes even close to being VR game of the Year. You can dress up a pig all you want but it’s still going to be a pig…
Performance is horrible. It was so bad that ever since I tried playing this, I started double checking VR games to make sure they're not using Unreal Engine before buying. I can run crap like heavily modded Skyrim with shader mods better than this game's menus.
After only 20 minutes, I cannot recommend this game. For some reason, everything seems blurry and the textures are low-resolution, even with maxed-out graphics settings, the game still looks bad. Furthermore, the performance is awful, and I crashed so many times that I couldn't get past the prologue. This shouldn't happen considering my PC has no problem running much more graphically demanding VR games. It honestly looks and feels like the Quest version was ported to PC with only minor visual improvements. For a VR game, especially one based on a series that's all about immersion, it's disappointing that there are only floating hands with no visible body or arm representation. As a fan of the Metro series and someone who plays a lot of VR, this has been a huge letdown.
Metro Awakening is a pretty mixed bag of a game, but it mostly evens out to a relatively enjoyable experience and a welcome addition to the franchise as well as a fun and challenging 100% if you are interested in doing that. The Good - Things that this game delivered well on 1. The Story - the story is based on Khan about five years before the events of the main game and it shows how Khan learned about the supernatural side of the Metro and it was an actually interesting as I was curious where Khan came from. With this being said, you have to at least play the first two games to even get an idea for who Khan is, so if you are looking at this game as your first in the series, look at 2033 and Last Light first. 2. Level design - this is pretty mixed as the way the game is set up, the story has you passing through the same areas before and after certain events which means that they are just slightly different from the time before. With that being said, the levels are genuinely interesting and do have some diversity from before/after whatever story event transpired and they just add to the game overall. 3. Believable Khan - Khan is a doctor and expands upon the Khan level in Metro Last Light with a believable story on how he came to learn the ins and outs of the Metro tunnels. This plays in with my first point, but it makes sense that Khan would be a doctor who wants to help people based on what we know of him from the other games. The Bad - Things that were poorly delivered or not delivered on at all 1. Graphics - I can usually excuse bad graphics, but the amount of blur applied to objects especially at a distance is almost inexcusable and does sometimes take me out of the game. This is especially noticeable in the credits as they are just far enough to start to blur when looking at them. 2. The AI - the AI is half baked at best as lurkers get stuck on everything and human enemies can seemingly sniff you out through the smallest of cracks at some times, or completely ignore you at other times. This just gets pretty annoying after a while especially when you are trying to stealthy, but surprisingly, the Nosalis AI is pretty good and I didn't have any problems with them for some reason. 3. The reloading and holding of weapons - this comes in play with something I talk about in the Ugly section, but since the grab regions are so big, it makes speed reloading weapons a nightmare at times as instead of grabbing the fore grip, you might accidentally grab the charging handle and expel a round. This is super prevalent on the Shambler and pretty much forces you to reload from underneath the barrel and not over the top as it happens less in that scenario. The Ugly - Things that should be in the game as it is a Metro game, or things that were not expanded on enough. 1. Weapon customization - this is a big part of the other games and the fact that it is not included in this one is almost a disgrace as there are guns with different constructions (engraved vs. welded) as well as attachments like stocks and suppressors, but as far as I can tell, the suppressor is the only one that changes anything other that appearances. There should have been an in depth system like other Metro games, but here your gun just looks slightly different. 2. No Moral system - one of the big reasons I liked the other Metro games was the inclusion of the Moral system, but it is completely absent in this game which doesn't really make it seem like a Metro game because that system is one of the reasons I like the other games so much. 3. No surface sections - another big part of the other Metro games is the surface and how it is very dangerous and only a last resort for travel, but it is completely absent in this game which is such a shame as it would have been so cool to go and see Moscow in VR. 4. The grab regions - for some reason, the holster regions as well as the chest region are huge as you could be trying to lean over and grab something on the floor, but instead grab your gun, even though your hand was nowhere near you hip. Also, sometimes I try and grab my backpack but instead grab something from my chest even though I was reaching to my left shoulder and not my chest. 5. The postcards - the postcards are the collectible in this game and they are hard to spot because of their small size as well as their ability to blend in with the environment, but their main problem is that they mean nothing. In the other games I would seek out the diary pages to learn more about what is happening from Artyom's point of view, but here, all they do is show up on a wall in the prologue section and are just a thing for you to sink more time into. Although I will say that once you know where they are, they are easy to find like on my second playthrough I found 30 out of 33 and the three I missed all required a little bit of extra work to find compared to the others. In conclusion, if you are interested and have played the other Metros, this game is worth it on sale, but just don't expect Half Life Alyx quality when playing it.
This game is not only the worst VR game I have ever played, but it is one of the worst games I have ever played period. It is certainly not a Metro game. The metro ip is just there for marketing. In reality it is a walking simulator with some light fps elements. The story is absolute sentimental garbage and has nothing to do with the lore and tone of the Metro series. The graphics are sub par and the game design has some horrible flaws. I played for 10 hours and I couldn't wait to reach the ending due to how horrible and obnoxious this game is. If you are a Metro fan or an fps fan, stay away from this hot garbage. Don't even buy it at a discount.
Metro Awakening –

Arthur Houtman.
More like MIDRO BLAHBLAHING. Almost everything in the game is exceptionally mid and the game being mostly a walking simulator with nothing interesting to walk through while everyone keeps yapping to progress the not so interesting story doesn't help. The shooting parts and enemies aren't that great either.
It was boring, nuff said.
