its very cringe, one some dev evidently played ocarina of time and thought what the game really needed was more voice lines for Navi, because they put her in this game. They renamed her gallica and her only purpose is to yell obvious ♥♥♥♥ at you repeatedly, she is by herself worth a negative review. then there is the absurdity of everyone cowering in fear of the mighty Humans.... because that is what they named the monsters for some idiotic reason. plenty of cringe dialog. The MC looks like a total douche canoe but in 3 hours what really takes the cringy cake is a DBZ style transformation done by ripping out a microphone heart and giving a speech to an imaginary crowd like he is lead singer at a metallica concert. its just the most cringe inducing game I have ever played. Then there is the story, to get a tad spoilery about the early game i must say it does not make sense. you start the game by joining the army to gain access to a fort and meet a spy, the fort gets attacked and destroyed, and you and the guy you went to meet decide to go assassinate someone. this has a few problems, one what was original plan? join the army just so you can desert and be wanted nationwide? How could we be sure we would be assigned to the correct fort? how were we going to get away from the fort if it hadn't been destroyed? this plan was flimsy at best, why not just sneak in and meet him since we had to sneak out anyway? then at least only one of us would be wanted. and why did we have to go get him in the first place? He is the one who proposed the assassination, wouldn't it make more sense for him to desert then come to the capital to meet you? That would have saved days(this is a time sensitive job after all) and again then only one of us would be a wanted criminal. The story is just silly as soon as you apply any thought to it. and its way too grindy
Tremendo
Solid game. I liked how it is more challenging than Persona games. The story is captivating, with some crazy highs and numerous twists that hit you where you least expect them. I remember not being able to shut my mouth for at least half an hour. The villain is also interesting. Pretty well written. Atlus knows how to write their villains. I have mixed feelings about the characters and the calendar system. As for the characters, some of them I really liked, some of them I didn't. Some of their stories were so immersive I looked for every possible chance to upgrade their follower bonds. And, some were... not so immersive, nor impressive. I just didn't feel connected enough to them. But I'd say they're a minority compared to how much of the characters I adore. And, the calendar system is pretty odd(?). I don't know what felt so about it but it's just odd. And the dungeons too. Some of them felt decent, but some of them felt like they were dragging for no reason, and some of them felt rushed. What I did dislike was the unexpected and atrocious difficulty spike in the last act, namely
Trial of the Dragon and the last phase of Destroyer Charadrius
. Although I tried a variety of formations and tactics, it just comes down to who you have in your party, and your luck. I didn't max out
Heismay
, and apparently he is the most broken, most efficient character to use in combat. So I had to lower the difficulty in those parts, because otherwise I'd come to hate the game. I am also not on good terms with the soundtrack. Not saying it's bad, but Atlus has definitely had better soundtracks. If I had to compare it with the only other Atlus game I've played so far, Persona 5 Royal, I'd say it takes the lead over Metaphor. This game is still a must for Persona fans though. It's a breath of fresh air. If you're not a Persona fan, well, no obstacles for you either, since the setting and whatnot are nothing like Persona. The review mainly focuses on the negative sides, but trust me, it's a good game. Like a 7 out of 10 if I had to point it out with a numeric system.
This game is good, it's polished and the music is sick, but certain things bother me quite a bit... Many reviewers are calling this a "Persona 5 fantasy re-skin" and that's because that is exactly what it feels like, it is made by the same people and same publisher. But, instead of innovating they've pretty much done the same ♥♥♥♥ as p5, same emotional Archetype unlock, same combat style, same map style, same relationship/bond mechanic, same secret room with a mentor that helps you unlock things etc. and for some really annoying reason they've added the calendar too - which makes sense in p5's school setting, but feels forced here. The archetypes are also very boring looking compared to SMT demons and the over world exploration/dungeon exploration feels extremely similar to p5 and it's not welcomed considering how many ideas were just, seemingly, reused. The UI is absolutely gorgeous, but from a UX perspective there is waaay too much movement, it's super distracting - there is even movement on textboxes. It is very over-designed. There are also distracting speedlines when sprinting. The combat is fun, the music is dope af (esp the throat singing bits), and the animations are solid. But, again, I find myself comparing it to p5 because it's literally the same combat. I like this game, the characters are cool and I like the lore. Though the main protag is pretty boring and flat. 7/10. Decent if you get it on sale, otherwise, lacks innovation and original ideas. Quite a let down imo.
