The story is at once incomprehensible and predictable. The gameplay is generic, the characters are unmemorable, and the progression system is a interesting idea that's poorly executed.
This game is a piece of art graphically speaking, beautiful to its core. The story, tho kinda predictable, is enjoyable and heartbreaking. The story itself is short, so to get all upgrades and everything, you must replay dungeons, which can be quite tedious and repetitive. I must say that, being a noob, I love that they included some 'cheats' to easy our gameplay. I tried really hard, but I'm really no good with fast paced games, so after dying twice and losing my progress and equipment in the same spot (chapter 2), I unlocked 2 features: infinite potions (which are VERY scarce) and double damage (unnecessary, just the infinite potions is already game breaking enough to finish the game). Money is not a problem in this game, the CC kinda is, as you need it to upgrade, and you only get it by defeating bosses or some chests. The fusion feature I enjoyed it the most, I'm a gambler XD This review happens after defeating the main story, but I will stay around to see what's left to do for a bit :)
The pixel art and animations are decent, and the characters and gameplay work well. There are plenty of weapons to choose from and good variety in how you can build your character. On the downside, the story itself isn't too bad, but it is told very poorly, and the level design feels uninspired and boring. Overall, it was a fun weekend game.
This is honestly one of the best games i think i have ever played. The first day I played it I couldnt step away and the ending is absolutely perfect.
This game has issues, the biggest among them a lack of content. The main story section has 3 main areas and a final area. The main areas, combined, have roughly 114 stages between them. Now, I know what you're going to say, that's a lot, but truth be told, it's really not, especially since what stages you get are randomly selected in a run of an area. You can and will see the same handful of stages multiple runs. In some cases, I've gotten the same stage in Snowland multiple times in a row. And of these stages, nearly 30 are locked behind campsites. Despite all my time in the game, I still haven't seen a quarter of the campsite "dungeons" in Deeplava, because even after at least a dozen full area runs, I still get the same small handful of "dungeons" at the camspites. There are 3 extra dungeons, which can add a little bit of extra playtime, but after finishing them once each, there's little reason to replay them, especially the pyramid where every chest is one time only. Challenge mode just doesn't work for me, it all just doesn't really fit. You can select as many of the options as you want, but none of them are truly fun. You have the standard hardcore, where you die and that's the end of the run, which doesn't gel with the rest of the game, where dying is expected and helps to make you stronger. So hardcore one life flies counter to the core of the game... and, well, the plot of the game as well. Then you have no healing, which can be gotten around, and is probably the least bad option. Well, except for "super enemy", where enemies just have less cooldown between attacks and said attacks cannot be interrupted. It's not really that much different from a normal run. However, random equipment is frankly terrible and would be the worst if not for the very last option, and its only saving grace is that it doesn't touch the items you can find and put into your inventory, only what you have equipped. Without this, it would nearly be impossible to finish a run, because the game can and will give you trash gear when fighting end game bosses. Lastly, and the truly worst challenge option, being chased by a certain character whom you cannot kill and will constantly attack you, save for boss areas. She can and will make life miserable, and yeah, it's a challenge mode, but it's not fun challenge. It's just crushing your nuts in a vise grip, especially when combined with the other stuff. EX Mode, I feel, could have been truly amazing... but it lacks content, just like the rest of the game. EX Mode is what challenge mode should have been; you get randomly selected areas and bosses to fight, and you get a choice of going in different directions. Each direction can have different modifications to enemies, making them bigger, making them cause explosions, slow you down, shock you, freeze you or fly in the air. You can also get rescue missions to save NPCs which, in turn, grant you ways to enhance yourself in EX Mode. So what's the issue? Well, there's only a handful of mods and characters to rescue, Once you've seen them all, which you can and will in very short order, that's it. Like the main game, the only further changes are piling on New Game + levels, which makes enemies harder. The story is... well. It leaves a lot to be desired. It leaves a lot of things hanging. It's not exactly clear, concise or fulfilling. The ending just skips over things and there's not a lot of closure. So why do I like this game? Because it's a fun romp and, even though I say there's a lack of content, I still got well over 20 hours. The problem is, I WANT MORE OF THIS GAME. I want to keep playing it, I want to keep myself immersed in it. I want to just stay in it for longer. But I can't. That's my real main issue, there was just so much more this game could do and didn't. I really like the game, that's why I want more of it. I want this to be a thing I sink 100+ hours into, but I can't, because I've seen basically all there is, short of a small handful of "dungeon" levels. Please, devs, I want some more. I beg you. I know it's been years, but I want some more. Or a sequel. That would be amazing.
The story is utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but the gameplay is really good(and the main thing) :)
Died halfway through the first level. Made me restart? 20 minutes wasted. No thanks. Games that waste your time suck. You should be able to die and get a checkpoint or save and quit when you want in middle of level.
the story and charcters are complete nonesense, for some reason the gear menu has the girl you play as being very suggestive. But the gameplay is pretty solid. good for a few afternoons of simple fun. gmae looks pretty good too.
