Memory Illusions

The performance is pretty bad and there is some problems with the controllers. It basically impossible to use the gun with two hands because the grip sensors are to far apart. The tutorial voice is so low you can barely hear it. The game is a wave shooter and and the sounds from the monsters are not orientated so I can not tell where they are its just a constant sound regardless of position.

First thing first: Yes, I received a review copy of Memory Illusions from the developers for free. That being said, I will remain fair and unbiased in my review. Do I recommend Memory Illusions? Yes. Is it a complete product at this time? No. It's in early access and being developed by a very small team. Despite being a small team, they are receptive to feedback, constantly adding new fixes and polish, and dedicated to presenting a quality product. VR is an interesting frontier for gaming. It has generations of gaming styles and mechanics that developers can draw from to explore from a new perspective. Until Memory Illusions, I had not yet seen a looter/shooter horror game attempted in VR, and upon initially hearing about it, I was quite excited, thinking back to the looter/shooter games I have played in the past where over the course of a few hours I could transform my weak avatar into a living god. My initial reactions to Memory Illusions were not great. I had built up this idea of what I was going to experience only to find an unrefined experience that left me bumbling about in the dark while shambling hordes glitched into the floors. The only levels available aside from a shooting range were a wave shooter set in an 80s style multi level mansion and a boss fight with a shark on a cargo ship. I was experiencing incredible frame stutters, and a few of the gun mechanics just didn't make sense to me. I gave my feedback to the developers, and they thanked me informing me that they were optimizing and making some changes. I figured I'd give it a while and check back. A couple of days later, one of the developers reached out to me and informed me that they had released a number of updates and a new level to go with it. So, I booted the game back up and jumped in. I was greeted by a new opening area with surprising polish and a blade-runner like cyberpunk aesthetic and a new level set in a totally different environment than before. This new level also included new monsters that gained in intensity as the waves went by. I was still experiencing some frame issues from time to time. And so, after about half an hour I shut it down and told the developers what I had been experienced. A few days later another round of updates took place, and again the developer who I have been in contact with informed me of the changes. I tried it this third time, and the changes in performance were very noticeable. So much, in fact, that I found myself actually having fun fighting to survives the ever increasing waves of enemies in these oppressively dark environments. I plan on doing a video review of my experience so far as well as some of my hopes for the future development of Memory Illusions, but at this time I can say the developers are working hard on creating what is missing from so many VR titles, an experience. Having the unique privilege of being able to speak with the developers, get direct feedback to my concerns, and see the game grow past some of the early hurdles gives me hope that they can create something special with Memory Illusions. TLDR; Many games in early access sit in limbo forever, but this one is steadily improving. I am excited to see where it goes.

Minus a few Kinks, and no Multiplayer( but i hear its in the works) its a good shooter =)
