About
Mayor May Knott is a “creepy-cozy” 3D adventure game about a shy girl who accidentally becomes mayor of a haunted ghost town.
Initially, May runs in fear from the monsters lurking about! But as she explores the town, solves puzzles, plays minigames, and fixes up houses and buildings, she becomes more confident, overcomes her fears, and discovers that the monsters are actually all very friendly and would love to help May around town!
Eventually, with the help of her newfound friends, May turns the abandoned ghost town into a thriving community, filled with a variety of delightfully creepy creatures.
Repair machines with Grandfather Clock, the clockwork retired rapper. Join Reel McKoi in fishing junk out of the polluted lake. Get your fortune read by the mysterious, sandwich-headed Madame Pastrami. And get insulted by Dick Tater, tyrannical owner of Glitzberg, the seedy apartment complex next door.
And that's just in the first 5 minutes!
Throughout the game, you'll find "records" to play on the Edjukebox in the Hall of Records. Those records teach you new recipes by playing original, professionally-produced songs spanning a huge range of genres -- from rap to rock, country to punk, girl-band to boy-band, and beyond!
Early in the game, May finds and fixes up a device for talking to ghosts. An “Ectophone” if you will. With the Ectophone, May can talk to the many ghosts haunting the houses around town, and try to help them remember their names.
Once May knows a ghost’s name, she can find their “record” in the Hall of Records, a combination record store and city archives. The Hall of Records is also home to the “Edjukebox”, a machine used to play the original, professionally-produced song on each record!
By listening to a new record, May learns a new crafting or cooking recipe! This is called “Edjuke-ation”.
Armed with the recipes from the Edjukebox, May can cook and craft exactly what each ghost needs to move on, leaving behind the key to their house!
The game cycles between day and night, and monsters have their own schedules of things to do. Sometimes the secret to making a new friend is to catch them at the right time, meet them in the right place, or build up the courage to talk to them!
By getting house keys from ghosts, and giving them to the monsters you meet, you can make them permanent residents of your town! Each new resident helps out around the town in some way, and as you add them to your town you gain new options and opportunities to meet new ghosts and monsters, solve puzzles, play minigames, and explore new areas!
Mayor May Knott is brimming with puzzles and minigames, whether it’s a puzzle to deduce the name of a ghost, a quest to find ingredients for a tricky recipe, or a minigame to befriend a new monster.
There’s even a spooky abandoned mine / bowling alley, a haunted mansion full of puzzles, and a creepy endless hallway stalked by a terrifying creature!
As you unlock new areas, repair houses and buildings, and move new residents to your town, you breathe new life into your abandoned ghost town, turning it into a happy thriving community.
Perhaps eventually you can convince all of the monsters to live in your town… even the tyrannical Dick Tater!

A bit rough around the edges but made with soul. The fact I was left wanting more can only be a good sign
Mayor May Knott proves to be a charming and incredibly addictive cross between a 90s adventure title, stardew valley lite, and a b-movie level monster flick. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience overall. If I were to give any criticism it would be that the mid to late game puzzles rely heavily on glass/bottles, but unlike wood which is scarce in the early game, there is no fast farm method to unlock for it, so there was a fair bit of either doing the fishing mini game and hoping for good rng, or spamming the day night cycle to get the 1-4 guaranteed glass that you do unlock to proc faster. Even then, it was a minor inconvenience. That and some of the perfect house pairings don't seem to have much in the way of proper clues so there is a lot of trial and error for the later half of them. Still not the worst thing in the world, and it never kept me from enjoying myself.

Truly wonderful game. It really scratched that Animal Crossing itch. The spooky but cute characters are great, and I love their "voices." It was a cute little game about working up the courage to do scary things. I wish there was more to do, I have replayed it and still loved it.
Will be purchasing again as soon as it comes to PS! Highly recommend. There are many reasons I loved this game, mostly all these little nice touches that make the game really feel like a labor of love from the developer(s) rather than a product shoved out to market. Beat in under 20 hours with minimal outside help (Mansion is hard!) At the end of the day this is a puzzle solving game. I found the puzzles easy enough to figure out. Without spoilers the most important NPC is Madame Pastrami. You can visit her and she will give you a selection of 'fortunes' to read you. In reality these are hints to any and all puzzles you have active at the moment. This eliminates the need to go off and google every time you get stumped or are having a hard time figuring out a particular part of a puzzle. You cannot leave a review about this game without talking about the soundtrack. I saw another person refer to the soundtrack as 'weirdly good' considering the material is un-serious. I agree. I love the quirkiness of it all. Mayor May Knotts' opener legitimately has gotten stuck in my head, and I sing it at home. Absolute banger and relatable. I don't want to spoil any other soundtracks in this game, but you are missing out if you don't listen to the records! Fried chicken is legit! As your town gets larger you start unlocking short cuts and alternate routes, it really feels like a live town because of this! I enjoyed meeting the residents and their 'scary' self and their 'friend' self. It reminds me a bit of Digimon World with its town building mechanics. I even loved that residents have a 'favorite' house. Also, a nice touch of having the residents out and walking about, makes the town feel alive! I also liked being able to look out the windows when inside any building and you can see residents moving around outside still. If you love a bit of dry humor, puns, or on-the-nose comedy, you will love the jokes in this game as well! Cannot recommend enough!
Absolutely loved this game!
I spent my weekend completing this game. It's impressively addictive from such a simple loop. Mayor May Knott is the story of May Knott, a young girl who, being afraid of everything, spends all her money on the last train to the end of the line and ends up in a town full of ghosts and monsters. However, with luck, she discovers the deed to the town and becomes its mayor. With nowhere else to go, May sets out on a journey on fixing up the town, inviting residents, and conquering her fears. But this isn't a management sim. The game has the gameplay loop of a point and click adventure game, but with the progression of a Metroidvania. This means you're going around fixing houses and dealing with the requests of the townspeople. This results in a very addicting sequence where you can clearly see an improvement in the town you're regularly going around: New paths open up, new mechanics and shortcuts to common routes become available, resource farming is sped up or automated and new equipment and recipes progress through the quests given by the townspeople. Everything ties up together in such a neat little bow as much as it's naturally blended with the town's growth. Every townsperson helps in some way, puzzles don't follow a linear path (you need to come back to some puzzles later on) and there's a certain joy seeing your town lit up and full of people going about their day. There's even a mechanic of listening to music to progress and they're all pastiches of songs we're heard elsewhere! I've heard The Smiths, boy bands, French rap, Michael Jackson, The Beach Boys, etc. It's sincere in all its goofiness. Visual and world design is very Addams Family and Burton-esque, that is, featuring comedic horror and dark whimsy. It's not scary, but it's creepy in an inviting way. May's fear plays into this. Alongside physical blocks and lack of tools/ recipes, May's confidence level blocks access to progress until you increase it via helping the town and its people. In a gentle way, you can very much see May move from being a quiet girl to talky as you progress. Performance-wise the game runs well for 75% of the time. There is some mild stuttering once you get enough people to live in your town and inside a mansion, but it's not bad enough on my end to affect gameplay, though your mileage may vary. Try lowering quality to see if it helps. Highly recommended. I recommend to the devs on selling a supporter's pack which includes the OST and concept art.
I LOVED this game! So much fun! Puzzles made me think but not overly complicated. I was sad when it ended!
Love this game! Cute, creepy, and cozy. Plenty of in-game hints if you slow down and look. The only thing I would change is adding some sort of guide to what all the symbols mean (like the box means they have been asked to help move something).
I love, love, LOVE Mayor May Knott. This is a game I didn’t know I needed in my life. It balances creepy, cozy, CHARMING, and challenging so well. The character voices are reminiscent of Banjo Kazooie and it tickles my nostalgia on top of everything. I binged my 17 hours in 2.5 days. Happily diving into a second play through now for the Thrill Seeker achievement.
